2010 YEAR IN REVIEW - Part 1

THAILAND RIOTS the Years TOP STORY

There's no doubt that the Thailand riots is the top story of 2010. As we've previously warned in the past BEWARE OF THAILAND and the riots proved our prophecy to be a nightmare waiting to happen and it did.

Thailand's Red shirts representing the oppressed in the country were spurned on by televised messages from ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Blood was shed and 91 people died in the protests including a foreign journalist. The riots began in April a continued through May until the protesting red shirts put down by government troops with live bullets.

Thailand has been cluttering television airwaves with tourist promotion ads stating Thailand just as amazing as you remember. ARE THEY SERIOUS?

What we recall events that have been published all over the world with their continued civil problems, revolts and the death of actor David Carradine. Carradine's mysterious death defies logic and has yet to be explained properly the riots have been repeated throughout Thailand's history.

In looking back on the events that we've reported on it was decided to split the review in two parts with Part 1 covering January through June and Part 2 the second half of the year July through December.

Of our 19 selections our Phnom Penh column took six positions. Most notably those stories featured filmmaker Oliver Stone and Timor East President Jose Ramos-Horta. Famed journalist Elizabeth Becker also maintained a spot throughout the year regarding the release of her book Bophana.

Stone and Ramos-Horta weren't selling anything they were teaching university students about life in relating their life experiences and work. Their messages were stimulating and rich with knowledge. The question remains did the Cambodian students get it or were they simply going through the motions by attending college and seminars to appease their parents.

In these two heavily credentialed guest speakers the students were being served a menu of steak and lobster but it appeared that they received it as if it was a plate of rice. Both men appeared in a series of guest speakers presented by the International Peace Foundation Network for the Promotion of Peace titled Bridges Dialogs Towards A Culture of Peace.

Ramos-Horta is a co-recipient of the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize and a former Prime Minister, having served from 2006 until his inauguration as President after winning the 2007 East Timorese presidential election. Before his appointment as Prime Minister, Ramos-Horta was considered a possible candidate to succeed Kofi Annan as United Nations Secretary-General. He dropped out of the race in order to serve as East Timor's Prime Minister, but he has indicated that he might run for the UN position at some time in the future: "I can wait five years if I am really interested in the job in 2012. I would be interested in that."

CNN founder Ted Turner had a lot to say as a guest on the Larry King show regarding CNN's focus on sensationalized journalism. Turner lost control of the company after Time Warner seized it through a controlling interest in Turners stock and then forced him out.

CNN earned their top story honors the way the sensationalized Tiger Woods private life. The unbelievable amount of coverage they gave the Woods story was as if North Vietnam dropped an atomic bomb on the USA. They recently covered up former US Vice President Dick Cheney buying his way our of a jail term for bribery in Nigeria in representing Halliburton.

With the help of former US President George H Bush (the elder) and politician James Baker they negotiated his not being prosecuted by paying a US $25 million fine. WOW!!! HOW DID CNN MISS THAT ONE? OHH... PLEASE!!!
