BACK IN THE DAY STORIES RISE TO THE TOP

There were some surprises in the Phnom Penh columns that attracted the most interest from our readers this month. Last months column focusing on BEWARE OF SORYA TRANSIT BUS SERVICE topped the charts. Basically that sorry company continues to create problems by not only being responsible for passenger's luggage but could care less about passenger safety as they refused to grant their drivers a raise and preferred to hire unproved replacements. Previously the company was named HO WAH GENTING TRANSPORT and under Malaysian management. At that time it was an honest, transparent company. Since it was purchased by Sorya apparently it has reverted to the Khmer Rouge Killing Fields mentality with its current Cambodian management.

The WAR JOURNALISTS column returned to the list and notched the second spot. That column focuses on what is it that appeals to a journalist that wants to cover a war and take photos of blood and guts? We asked the question what's appealing about that.

A shocker was an old column from 2005 featuring the Freshie Girls & Boy contest. Back in the day (as they say) it was a major issue for us that there was something to give Cambodia youth a chance to excel, improve their hygiene and develop self confidence. After several years we realized that the contest wasn't what that column depicted and came to the realization that the contest had changed values and direction since the information and policies were given to us. Management and partners departed as did the ethics. After functioning as a judge for several years we quit and distanced ourselves from the competition.

The fourth spot was our column featuring out overall TOP 10 Phnom Penh stories. The thrust of the piece was our focus on the upheaval of the Cambodian telecom industry last year in which companies went out of business and less than sterling companies took over. In the process they deceived the customers that they absorbed from their acquisitions. Politics factored in many of the changes by ignoring court orders to favor a political ally.

The 5th spot is a real shocker focusing on Cambodia Daily publisher Bernard Krisher's Telemedicine and its then main man David Robertson. Being published in 2003 thus 11 years old it qualifies as being the oldest most searched story. They question is why? Read on and make your own judgment as to what makes this column so popular.

This June 25, 2003 column also features Chy Sila the owner of CD World, BB World. Piece of Pizza, Sabay and other concerns is noted with his endeavor into the coffee business. Former ASSOCIATED Press bureau chief Chris Dechard is also featured regarding him being on his last legs prior to departing AP and returning to America for recovery.

TOP 5 PHNOM PENH STORIES
1
Phnom Penh (Ah) - BEWARE OF SORYA TRANSIT BUS SERVICE April, 2014
WHERE'S SORYA'S INTEGRITY? - BUYER BEWARE! - The problem with Sorya Bus Transit in Cambodia is a lack of responsibility, lying, deceit in posting a notice that they do not honor plus failing to keep proper customer complaint records which equates that they do not care. If this were an HONEST ORGANIZED COMPANY they would have a log with all complaints made as we had a record of the time, date and length that complaint call was made
2
Phnom Penh (Ah) - WAR JOURNALISTS - May, 2013
WHY WAR? - What fulfillment or enjoyment does a journalist get in covering wars? Why would that be a preferable environment to be in watching people murdering each other, loosing limbs and having wounds with their guts hanging out? What is the appeal? - NR TOP 5 Phnom Penh Stories features Cambodia's human rights abuses

Phnom Penh TRAVEL TIPS FRESHIE CONTESTANTS - December, 2005
Freshie Boy & Girl Contest teaches good things to Khmer teens: "Our society now has a bad problem with drugs and domestic violence. In order to solve these problems you have to start with the family but sometimes they don't understand. That's where we come in. It's not going to solve the problems of the world but at least we started something. We teach being a good teen at home by being a good son or daughter. At school (we teach) being a good student, in society to be a good friend. This is the concept we teach." Who said this??? - National Radio's Top 10 Stories

Phnom Penh (Ah) - NR TOP 10 PHNOM PENH STORIES - July, 2013
POLITICS & MOBILE TELECOMS RULE - Murders, incarcerations, land grabbing and human rights abuses calmed down at the turn of the year with the obvious focus being to present a kinder, gentler government that had their citizen's interest at heart. Paradoxically this was in preparation to improve a tarnished image apparently to bolster a positive outcome in the Cambodian elections
