CAMBODIA'S Freshie Contest Muddle - FICKERT RETURNS - Inflation GO FIGURE - CREDIT DUE to Lucky Markets - SAY WHAT? MICROSOFT in Phnom Penh! - CAMBODIA'S TOP FIVE STORIES - Internet Theft - Overall the Dr. Beat Richner story remains in the top spot for Cambodian stories viewed.

In The Freshie Muddle

The Freshie contest continues to exude mystery. When the contest began the record company CMM was intending to sign Freshie contestants they deemed had talent to a record contract. Then CMM COO Glenn LaSalle said those signed didn't have to be the winners in the Freshie contest.

LaSalle attended the singing competition that was held off camera at TV 5 prior to the elimination round of 20 to 10. Two thirds of the elimination round was supposed to be based on facial beauty and figure. When one of the most beautiful girls in the contest was eliminated LaSalle said that she had a nice voice and that CMM would take her. Since that time LaSalle left the company according to a CMM press release as follows.

Date: 3 March 2008 JOINT ANNOUNCEMENT

CMM and GMM Grammy (Thailand) hereby declared, with immediate effect, terminate Mr. Glenn Lasalle (Thai citizen and former employee of GMM Grammy) and Mr. Reggie Xavier (Canadian citizen and currently PR Executive Director of Save the Children, Australia) based on breach of trust and misappropriation of fund. They are no longer an associate/agent/employee of CMM and GMM Grammy and/or representing us in any manner and/or capacities whatsoever.

We further announced that, from the date of this announcement and hereafter, any commercial and/or non-commercial transactions consummated by the above named individuals with the other parties (be an individual and/or companies) on behalf of us and/or our officials are illegal, misrepresentations, and neither endorsed by the company nor its officials. Therefore, we and/ or our officials declared ourselves of no fault and, shall not be held responsible for any acts derived from the above named individuals with any party/parties, organizations, companies and etc.

When we contacted CMM to see if they would continue to honor giving recording contracts to Freshie contestants we were informed by Boribo that they were still interested but the actual decision was up to Rot who took LaSalle's position. Attempts to reach him were futile due to the 012 network being busy. Our attempts to reach Freshie organizer Boonkerd Angamnuasiri were to no avail.

On the surface it appears that this is a lose, lose situation for the Freshie winner to be announced March 31 during the contest final scheduled to be televised on Cambodia's TV 5. Will the new CMM company heads employ the plans of the previous regime?

Since his departure from CMM LaSalle formed a company The Artist Connection with Xavier The duo was involved in the production of the hugely successful Stacie Orrico concert in Phnom Penh Saturday March 15th. .

Will the Freshie contestants receive contracts from CMM or any other record company? Stay tuned.

In our opinion the question is how did the once Freshie chariot of gold turn into tarnished tin? Coming… The Bloom Fell Off The Freshie Rose

NOTE:

Freshie organizers wanted to make the point that they did have an offer to supply SMS voting for the contest but they did not agree on terms.

FICKERT RETURNS

Former Cambodian national team coach Joachim Fickert was in town for a friendly visit earlier this month. Fickert is currently the technical director of football of Mali who participated in the final 16 in this years African's Cup of Nations.

The subject of the lack of football pitches for children and teams to practice on came up. He noted that the Naga football club had a hard time finding a field where they could to practice. Fickert was also the coach of Naga after departing the Cambodian national side.

He pointed out that in the past every school had a football pitch but the land was sold for real estate development. He also noted that Mali invested heavily in football to help bring attention to the country. Fickert claims that he is earning more than 6 times the wage he was paid while coaching Cambodia.

Fickert mentioned that he noticed that we no longer report on Cambodian football. The reason for that is we look for positive stories. FULL STORY

When it comes to training Khmers how to do business and communicate with foreigners the Lucky Supermarket does an outstanding job. Their employees are well-mannered and polite and many speak English particularly at the Lucky location on Sihanouk Boulevard. From our experience no one is training their employees better.

Also note that when you purchase an item at one of the Lucky stores that item is returnable only to that location. We had that experience when we purchased some meat at the Sorya store that went bad over night. When we returned it to the Sihanouk store which is closed to our home we learned the policy. The manager smelled the meat and noted the expiration date and was professional enough to make and exchange but warned that items must be returned to the store where purchased. They have independent accounting systems.

MICROSOFT SAY WHAT?

It's amusing to see that Microsoft has opened an office in Phnom Penh to help counter piracy. It is estimated that 90% of all software is pirated in Cambodia. The amusing part is that Microsoft is guilty of piracy themselves. They have misled the public with our National Radio stories.

When someone searches for stories written by Roman Wanderaugh Microsoft links them to another site.

MSN listed incorrect information and linked our work to Thai Visa as noted below:

Thaivisa.com The latest updated Thai visa immigration news; work permit and residence permit in ... Friday, 15 December 2006 Cambodia visa trip "TRAVELING AROUND" by Roman Wanderaugh o www.thaivisa.com/344.0.html o ˇ¤ 7/14/2007 o ˇ¤ Cached page

MSN also listed the headline TRAVELING AROUND on the Cambodia Land & Sea story. It raises the question why was it necessary to make two listings on the same story to link to the Thai Visa site?

Roman Wanderaugh and any other National Radio columns are only legally available on the Internet on National Radio. We DO NOT GIVE PERMISSION for any other web site to use our material including soliciting our photos to the public.

We negotiate directly with interested parties for use. We are published in print in five languages. We do not approve of Thai Visa using our material and all of the search engines misleading the public to other web sites using National Radio information.

Isn't a search engines job to lead the public to the information they seek? It is clearly stated on our National Radio web site:

Microsoft has its own shady past that is depicted in the telefilm, 'Pirates of Silicon Valley. The film documents the rise of the home computer (personal computer) through the rivalry between Apple Computer (Apple II and the Apple Macintosh) and Microsoft (MITS Altair, MS-DOS, IBM PC, and Windows). "Pirates of Silicon Valley" was nominated for five Emmys and is worth a CD rental or purchase to have a look.

GO FIGURE

With skyrocketing food prices in Cambodia to help counter that a foreigner was listing some of his furniture to be sold in a newspaper ad. When asked what were some of the items that he purchased where he noticed the greatest increase in price the first three items he blurted out were cheese, burritos and wine. He pointed out, "Well I can do without the cheese."

CAMBODIA'S TOP FIVE STORIES

Overall the Dr. Beat Richner story remains in the top spot for Cambodian stories viewed. On this months list all positions were taken by our Phnom Penh column which also topped our overall ratings of the section most visited making it a first.

Beauty wins out as the most popular topic beginning with our announcement of the Freshie Girl & Boy contest returning for another year. A piece on Internet theft also helped drive that January 2008 Phnom Penh column up the charts. In doing so it is our fastest rising Cambodian story ever.

The beauty contest theme continued to draw attention in our September 2005 Phnom Penh column in taking the second position. After reviewing that story we must point out that we no longer recommend Dara's shoes. Since that time a problem arose. Their effort was good the results were bad. Two pairs of shoes we ordered didn't fit since they were made too small. One pair we kept and suffered with. The other while they said they were going to enlarge the shoe but they sold it without our knowing. They claimed they lost it but latter admitted they sold it.

The RONAN In Concert at Olympic Stadium story continues to draw interest in our Phnom Penh May 2007 column. This column has made the charts several times on our overall ratings since it was published. The fourth spot went to our Phnom Penh column of July, 2006 that features the proposed Miss Cambodia contest and The Freshie Boy & Girls contests. Famed architect Vann Molyvann the designer of Olympic Stadium is also featured in that article. The fifth and final spot focused on GOLD QUEST a company that created a stir when it came to Cambodia that dates back to our April 2005 Phnom Penh column making it the oldest story making the Top 5 chart.

Overall NR Top ratings.

5. - Travel Tips - Phnom Penh - GOLD QUEST: A Pyramid Scheme Or What? - Faces & Places - April 2005
Gold Quest have a history of being criticized as being a pyramid scheme. It's an image they would like to clean up. Whatever one might think about the ethics of the company one thing that was evident was the thinking of the IR's. It requires organization, planning and working together. For Cambodia… that's a good thing.

Special Note:

Racism is a subject that won't go away. A story Racist Radio that we wrote about the subject in 1998 continues to retain interest and keeps reentering the Top 20 over the years. We are including it on this list since the problem exists in Cambodia.

An English language publication in Cambodia suggested in its January 2007 issue for foreign club owners keep black people out of their establishment. In its June 2007 issue that same publication gave advice on purchasing narcotics. The irony is that within a one year period two of its writers of their Sihanoukville column died from drug related causes. The publication has also committed Internet theft and plagiarism.

INTERNET THEFT?

In researching the findings we have found that search engines Yahoo, Google and MSN are all guilty of misleading the public. They have linked our story information to other sites without our permission. Those sites include Thai Visa, Washington University in the USA and UNESCO.

We have tried to contact Yahoo regarding this matter but there was no response. For our story on Digital Divide Data titled Bridging The Digital Gap Yahoo linked our information to UNESCO and Washington University web sites as noted below.

Cambodia (PDF) 13 James Loving, "DDD - Bridging the Digital Gap of Have and Have. Notes," (by James Loving, National Radio Text Service, 8 April 8, ... www.unescobkk.org/fileadmin/user_upload/ict/Metasurvey/CAMBODIA.PDF - 117k - View as html

The questions are:

1. Why would a company that is valued at billions of dollars employ dishonest practices?

2. Who is responsible for manipulating information that is misleading to the public?

3. Who is responsible at UNESCO in permitting the practice?

Yahoo used the same story to mislead the public to the Washington University (USA) web site as noted below:

Cambodia (PDF) 13 James Loving, "DDD - Bridging the Digital Gap of Have and Have. Notes," (by James Loving, National Radio Text Service, 8 April 8, ... www.com.washington.edu/ict4d/upload/2004052712430458_03760155.pdf - 117k - View as html WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY

Our Roman Wanderaugh columns have been linked to other web sites by all three search engines without our permission. The most flagrant violator is Thai Visa. We have contacted them in the past but they have ignored our request to take our stories off their site.

All three of the mentioned search engines have used our story information and linked it to Thai Visa without our permission. Thai Visa actually stole our story and posted it on their site. In the past they not only stole our Cambodia By Land & Sea story but also used our photo. Since that time the photo is not on our story on their site.

Google provides advertising for the site. The question is why would a company that is worth billions of dollars resort to supporting a web site that steals?

The information of our information page on the Google site also had the following endorsing going to the Thai Visa site. ©2007 Google - Google Home - Advertising Programs - Business Solutions - About Google FRONT PAGE WITH THAI VISA

MSN did the same. They listed incorrect information and linked our work to Thai Visa as noted below:

You would think that a search engines job to lead the public to the information they seek NOT STEAL.
