Bullied Model Becomes Best Ever Australia Top Model

The judges split 3 for Demelza and 3 for Alexandra Girdwood in the final voting which for the first time placed the final decision in the hands of viewer voting. The irony was the announcement was made via video from Paris by last season's winner Alice Burdeu who ironically was bullied in the previous series that she won.

At the final judging Demelza again apologized to Alamela and was praised for it by the judges. From our point of view her apology wasn't sincere.

Alex's problem is her racist remark that she made in an earlier episode when asked what made her better than the model she was standing next to olive complexioned Samantha Downie. One of her five reasons she gave was because she was whiter. Samantha was the fans overall choice as Australia's Top Model but finished 3rd. in the competition. For being the fans choice she won $5,000.

From Paris Alice announced that Demelza won the title. Demelza's prizes included representation with Priscilla's Model Management for 12 months, a Ford Fiesta Zetec, a contract as the face of Napoleon Perdis cosmetics, an all expenses paid trip to New York City to meet top international agencies, and an eight-page spread with Vogue Australia.

Despite winning the competition, Vogue editor, Kirstie Clements stated that Demelza is not ready to appear on the cover of Vogue and Australia's Next Top Model judge, Dawson, agreed.

All of the contestants that competed in this season's competition were in attendance at the final. After it was announced Demelza won the title all of the contestants ran on to the stage and hugged and embraced her with one exception… Alamela. She stood behind the pack of dogs (as referred to by the judges after the bullying they did to her) and simply waited.

You could see the pain inflicted by the girls on her remained. When asked by Dawson she said she survived the torment by "Keeping (her) moral ground and not to compromise (her) principals."

In the previous series the eventual winner Alice Burdeu was bullied about her lack of weight and accused of being emaciated. She like Alamela is reserved and quiet. Due to her talent, striking high fashion model look and height she won the competition. She is now regarded as the best ever and most successful model from the show.

Her success includes signing to Elite Model Management in New York City, with Mannequin Studio in Singapore, with Why Not Model Agency in Milan, which led her to having shows at the Milan Fashion Week, with Silent Models in Paris and had also signed a contract with Models 1 in London. Since winning Australia's Next Top Model, Burdeu had appeared in an ad campaign for Melbourne brand "Green with Envy".

She modeled for several months in Singapore after her win, most notably for Daniel Yam's Spring/Summer 2008 collection. She was featured on the cover of the January issue of Singapore's Luxury Magazine and in an editorial spread in Style magazine. Prior to that, Burdeu landed her first magazine cover with Pages Magazine issue August 2007 in her native Australia.

In Paris, Burdeu is represented by Silent Models. As of to date, Burdeu has done several shows in Paris for her first season (Fall/Winter 2008), including Anne Valerie Hash, Cline, Maison Martin Margiela, Louis Vuitton, Dries van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Sofia Kokosalaki, Rue de Mail, Lanvin, Alexander McQueen and opening Jean-Charles de Castelbajac.

She was featured on Models.com's Top 10 Newcomers of Fall/Winter 2008, touted to be one of the rising stars of the high-fashion world and also on Style.com, an online website of Vogue. Her profile has also been added to New York Magazine, strengthening the fact that she is one of the rising stars of the fashion world. Burdeu has also had a string of editorials and advertorials. This included a three page advertorial for Mondial Jewelers in Australia and a cover of Harper's Bazaar supplement. She has also appeared on the Malaysian edition of Her World Magazine

AUSTRALIA NETWORK TV SHOW - The Rape of Nanking.

After repeatedly seeing reports about this event on the news the Australia Network is television is televising a 52 minute film on the subject titled The Rape of Nanking.

It is a riveting story that captures extreme violations of human rights. The film reveals the secret history highlighting the atrocities meted out to the Chinese by the Japanese in World War II. Such was the gruesome inventiveness of the torture inflicted on the Chinese when the Japanese overran Nanking in 1937, that even the Nazis were revolted by it.

One Nazi representative living in the city, Schindler-like businessman John Rabe, was moved to save a quarter of a million Chinese. This film draws extensively on Rabe's diaries in an unflinching account of The Rape of Nanking.

While the Nazi death camps were undoubtedly cold, methodical killing machines, the Japanese added an evil twist to the horrors of World War II when they overran Chinese lines in 1937. The order was given to kill all captives. In the ensuing massacre, known as the Rape of Nanking, the Japanese took to their task with glee. Soldiers competed to find crueler and more outlandish ways of torturing their victims to death.

Accounts and photographs are truly stomach-turning. They vied with each other to kill the most Chinese in one day. They killed so many men, women and children with machetes that their arms ached. Much of the Asian experience of World War II has been forgotten about in the West. America has traditionally played down the Rape of Nanking. It has been suggested that this is because the US brokered secret deals with the Japanese in exchange for their research on germ warfare and human biology. The truth is revealed, however, in this definitive, powerful and disturbing film about Man's inhumanity to Man.

This is a must watch. Check you local listings for the date and date in your area.
