Ultimate Fighter semifinal doubleheader - ASAP POP VIEWERS CHOICE AWARDS - TV SCHEDULE

Sunday December 10, 2006

FRESHIE BOY & GIRL SHOW WOES

The Freshie Boy and Girl television show was originally scheduled to be televised at 6:30 PM Saturday December 9.

On short notice Cambodia's TV 3 rescheduled the show to air at 5:30pm. On the day of the telecast TV 3 pushed it up another half hour and it went on the air at 5:00pm. So much for good planning and satisfying sponsors.

In its place what was shown in the 6:00 pm time slot was some nondescript show followed by the news and then a talent show of no particular interest that has been on the air for a while. Go figure…

The future shows are scheduled to be televised on a delay basis on Cambodia's TV 3 on Saturdays December 9, 16, 23 and 30.

WHAT TIME REMAINS A MYSTERY given TV 3's track record. If you want to go by the last minute changes this past week then it should start at 5:00 pm. STAY TUNED…

THE AMAZING RACE FINAL

The Amazing Race has been voted as the most popular reality show in the world. The finals of this season will be televised Monday night at 8:00 pm Cambodia Thailand time.

Of the three teams remaining to compete for the US $1 million prize the team of the black single moms from Alabama, given their age (approximately late 30's plus) and physical condition were long shots to be in the final three.

They are the first all women team to make the final in the 10 season of the show. The other teams have given them the nickname of Bama.

The other two teams in the finals are the couple that often argues Rob and Kimberly and the male models who are recovering drug addicts Tyler and James.

TV fans have a tendency to root for a winner when the show begins. It's like rooting for a horse in a horse race. In part that's what makes the show so interesting.

The cast is always a mix of different lifestyles and backgrounds lending itself to a base of fans with similar interests or backgrounds.

In this race one of the favorites were the blond haired former beauty contest winners. They were recognized by many of the other teams as being relentless and not to be trusted.

The blonds were eliminated in the semifinal last week. They lost the previous week but were given a free pass when the show game them a NON ELIMINATION status.

Who will win the MILLION DOLLARS??? TUNE IN MONDAY NIGHT December 11.

Note:

The show does have repeats throughout the week. See the TV schedule below. In the past the final show was a two-hour broadcast.

ASAP POP VIEWERS CHOICE 2006 AWARDS

ASAP is one of the most popular variety television shows in the Philippines on TFC (The Filipino Channel) featuring some of the most talented performers in the nation. Today they presented their POP Viewers Choice 2006 Awards.

The winners include rising superstar singer/actress Sarah Geronimo taking the award for best POP song with 'I Still Believe In Loving You.' She also won an award as being a member of the cast of Bituing Walang Ning Ning that won Best POP TV Show of the Year.

Kim Chiu and Gerald won the POP Love Team award. They met as contestants on the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition and have been cast together in several TFC (The Filipino Channel) TV shows and promotions.

Toni Gonzaga and Sam Milby won the POP Movie Theme Song with their recording of You Are The One. Gonzaga is also a performer on ASAP and the co-host of Pinoy Dream Academy.

Rachaell Anne Go won POP Female Artist of the Year and Erik Santos took the won POP Male Artist award.

PINOY DREAM ACADEMY

The Pinoy Dream Academy is a talent development TV show from the Philippines where there is an abundance of talent. The show recruited internationally those that had Philippine lineage. That resulted in contestants that were living in the USA, Japan, Dubai, Netherlands, Italy, Australia and several other countries to be on the show.

The shows purpose was to train the contestants to be entertainers and live in a house together like the Bog Brother TV show.

Since the show began in August they made several changes while in production. They originally chose 16 contestants. A day later they added four more bringing the total to 20 contestants.

A heavy focus was on singing as they attended vocal lessons classes and performed on the TV show on Saturday nights.

One contestant was eliminated each week. It is now down to the final six that will compete in a televised show this Saturday December 16.

This past week Yvan Lambatan and Rosita Bareng were eliminated.

Rosita has come a long way from the beginning of the show. What came out of her experience is her warm personality and humorous attitude. She could have a great future as a comedic actress.

Yvan by far has the best quality voice of anyone that has been on the show. Of the six remaining contestants NONE have a good quality voice. Only one can consistently stay in tune and on key.

The shows elimination process was a four step affair. After performing the bottom four of the (1) SMS voting were selected a brought forward to be on camera (2) they then announced the top SMS vote getter who was saved.

(3) The teachers then selected someone to be saved. 4. The other contestants then chose who would remain on the show with their votes.

After 10 contestants were eliminated the remaining 10 contestants elimination was entirely determined by the fans voting.

On the televised show after the contestants sang their songs a jury of entertainment business professionals ranging from teachers, performers, songwriters, managers etc. judged the contestants.

Some of the jurors spent too much time trying to show how knowledgeable and intelligent they were with their criticism of the contestants. Much of it was cruel and unwarranted.

Over the course of the season the contestants cried enough tears to fill up the Pacific Ocean. When Rosita was eliminated she was devastated and cried excessively as she tried to sing her closing good-bye song..

After the decision was announced Rosita was distressed and drowned herself in tears. Her elderly mother who was in the audience passed out.

After the show at the students Dream Academy home one of the teachers said to the winning six students that will progress to the final, "She is broken. You have to help her heal."

In another case a contestant name Iya Ginez who along with Yvan have the two best quality voices in the Academy were in the bottom four.

She gave an incredible performance on a show when she and Yvan were the best.

On that show they gave the best performances (in my opinion) for the entire season regarding emotion, tone and voice quality. To me it was a tie between the two.

Yvan was saved. A juror then unmercifully criticized Iya. The fans voting selected someone that can't sing at all thus saved from elimination.

The juror that criticized Iya performed the next day on ASAP. After hearing her performance I would rather hear Iya sing any day.

The good news is the show does produce results. They have almost made silk purses out of sow's ears.

Though all of the good singers are eliminated what is left have come a long way in development and some have the potential for a successful entertainment career.

The bottom line is to improve the show some adjustments are needed to give the more talented performers a chance to succeed.

Being the peoples choice based on good looks has nothing to do with talent. It may help the network utilize that talent for roles on their new programming that is much needed for their International expansion.

If the students learned two lessons they are… 1. Show business is a tough business. 2. LIFE ISN'T FAIR.

WORLD'S APART

WORLD'S APART is a good TV show to watch on the AXN channel. It sends an American family to a foreign land to live with indigenous people for 10 days. The family has to adapt to their culture and ways.

This is the perfect show that demonstrates how people can get along.

Note: This show is in reruns and is subject to a limited run. Check your local listings for time and date in your area.

JAY LENO Is (Spot) On

You often hear the phrase SPOT ON meaning you got it right or it's hot. When it comes to comedy often the humor is lost in the translation of language or a cultural misunderstanding.

Jay Leno is recognized as one of America's top comedians. He took over The Tonight Show that Johnny Carson hosted for many decades. They said nobody could replace Carson but Leno certainly has having hosted the show for a decade himself.

To see if Leno is SPOT ON for you the show airs on the CNBC channel Saturday night and Sunday afternoons in the Southeast Asia region. Check your listings.

In Cambodia and Thailand it is televised at 9pm Saturday and 3pm Sunday. CHECK IT OUT.
