Tiger Woods request to the media "PLEASE LEAVE MY WIFE AND KIDS ALONE" - Molly A. Burgess photo

Video Beat Extra Extra - TIGER WOODS - "PLEASE LEAVE MY WIFE AND KIDS ALONE"

James Loving - National Radio Text Service

The mass media continue to persecute Tiger Woods after his televised apology to his wife and the public. CNN decided that this was the biggest news of the day and ignored real NEWS STORIES of people suffering and dying in Haiti, Palestine, Pakistan and Afghanistan. CNN did everything but bring a wooded cross and nail Woods to it for a pay per view event - Recommended TV Listings

TIGERS TAIL

The attention given to Tiger Woods controlled press conference was that worthy of the president of the United States. Many of the networks broke away from their regular coverage and some blocked out time in advance for what apparently was the biggest story since Moses parted the Red Sea as well as Jesus being crucified.

The media were not permitted to ask questions and were sequestered in a press room a mile away from the site of Woods statements and TV monitors were their only access to the event. Two hundred news organizations from around the world showed up for the occasion.

Woods pointed out the there were many false reports in the news media including that his wife hit him. He also pointed out that the news media harassed his children. "Please leave my wife and kids alone," he requested while noting that they did nothing wrong.

The golf superstar went on to ask for his forgiveness for the wrongs that he had done. His Thai mother was in attendance and he pointed out that the news media also chastised her.

As usual the sleaze (so called) news network CNN went to the extreme covering this event. It was their lead prior to and after Woods spoke. They then went on for hours with so called expert's opinions on what Woods said. One of those experts was Dan Baum identified as a crisis management expert. Our question is WHO IS DAN BAUM?

A more legitimate news network the BBC opened with the story and went on to DO THE JOB OF REPORTING THE NEWS. As professionals the BBC apparently recognized that there are more important things going on in the world than taking valuable time picking apart Tiger Woods and his personal life. They focused on covering NEWS STORIES.

They also reported on the protests of Israelis shooting at Palestinians who were protesting Israel's building of a wall in Palestinian territory as well as other stories. They interviewed a Palestinian man who couldn't work his olive crop because of the wall who said, "Israel have no documents for owning the land that they have seized."

When we returned to CNN a half hour later they were still dwelling and focusing on giving Tiger Woods a beat down.

We've questioned in the past why such attention if given to a man why cheated on his wife. It was as if he was the first person in life to do so. In CNN'S extensive crucifixion of Woods they interviewed people on the street for their reactions and one man said it was nobody's business but that of Woods and his wife. An elegantly dressed lady in her 50's responded "It's his private life. I don't particularly see why he has to apologize."

A golfer participating in a tournament in Tucson, Arizona related a story from the bible about a woman who had sinned by being a prostitute. At that time a crowd asked Jesus if they should stone her to which Jesus replied, YES. Jesus went on to say, "But let he who has not sinned cast the first stone."

A CNN reporter said of Woods declaration that she would not forget or forgive Woods and questioned the sincerity of his statement. It would be interesting to investigate this unforgiving CNN reporter's background and personal to see is she is without sin.

CNN'S sports show host said in his explanation of why so much attention is give to the Tiger Woods story, "He's on the level of Michael Jordan and Ali."

For those of us who have lived through and reported on Ali and Jordan that statement is so much crap. Both of them have had relationships outside of their marriage but nowhere nearly received the media coverage devoted to Woods. There was barely a word said about Ali. Jordan received some media coverage but by comparison the attention give to Woods is comparable to someone breaking wind to someone (Woods) dropping the H bomb on Hiroshima.

Another CNN reporter covered a press conference of a former porn star who was hurt that Woods didn't publicly apologize to her. She claimed that she gave up her career in making porn film to have sex with Woods because he couldn't bear the thought of her having sex with another man.

CNN's Larry King devoted his entire hour to what Woods had to say and also having (excuse us) experts giving their opinions about Woods and his statements. Anderson Cooper's 360 led off the show about Woods as did the regular CNN news (if you want to call it that) casts.

If anyone should apologize it should be the news media particularly CNN that have meddled in the private life of one of the greatest athletes of all time in an effort to ruin his career. They should apologize for making false reports and harassing Woods children and mother.

The only thing CNN failed to do was bring a wooden cross and nail Woods to it and charge the public to witness their actions by charging a pay per view fee.

We're in the camp of the Beatles who sang, LET IT BE and leave Woods alone and let him get on with his life. If the Tiger Woods story is more important than the suffering and lives lost in Haiti, Palestine, Pakistan and a Afghanistan then CNN SHOULD GET OUT OF THE BUSINESS OR RETURN IT TO TED TURNER WHO CREATED the Channel NEWS Network (CNN) and get back to the NEWS business rather than exploitation and sensationalism. CNN... GET A LIFE.
