THE APPRENTICE RETURNS

He's back…. The Donald we're referring to and his show The Apprentice. If you don't know the game Trump is his name and the show will have its season premiere Wednesday night at 11 PM Singapore/Hong Kong and 10 PM Thailand Cambodia time on the Star World Network. This season Trump is featuring his now grown children the stunning Ivanka and Donald Jr.

DREAM (NIGHTMARE) ACADEMY CRASH & BURNS - Part 2

If you've never seen anything self destruct then take a look at this repulsive show called Pinoy Dream Academy. More appropriately it should be named Pinoy NIGHTMARE Academy because that's just what it's turned out to be since now three of its members have left the show due to stress reasons within the first three weeks of the program. One student was placed in a hospital for a short period of time.

The latest casualty is Jet a 25-year-old father of two who has been given a hard time by the 18-year-old faction within the Academy. He wanted to leave after Saturday nights performance in which the despicable judge Gerard Salonga viciously attacked his second victim in his two weeks as a judge on the program.

After Jet's performance Salonga said, "I just don't get it." In the back room where the teachers were watching the show on TV monitors performance teacher Joey Javier Reyes remarked to the other teacher/mentors, "It was a pain to watch Jet."

The previous week Salonga said of Sheng's performance, "I didn't like that." If its tact you're looking for Salonga doesn't have it.

So who is this conceited talent killer who thinks he knows it all? We looked for information on his background and the following came up on Wikipedia and they warned: This article does not cite any references or sources. (November 2007) Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unverifiable material may be challenged and removed. And then came the hype from the UNKNOWN SOURCE:

Gerard Salonga is the younger brother of Lea Salonga and has been involved in music since he started playing piano at the age of 5. He performed a duet called Happiness with his sister on her first album Small Voice. Gerard has worked with artists such as Lea Salonga and Martin Nievera. He has also arranged and conducted the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and Manila Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2005, Gerard won the Aliw Award for Best Musical Director for the third time. Gerard is now the musical director for Powerhouse Creative Content Company (PC3), a music and audio recording, film scoring, and post-production facility in Manila, Philippines.

In 2006, he recorded the score for Ang Pamana with the Global Studio Orchestra in Manila, Philippines. Gerard received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ateneo de Manila University in 1994. He later graduated summa cum laude from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. While there he received Berklee's Contemporary Writing and Production Achievement Award.

After accessing this material we heard one of the day after his attack on Dream Academy contestants a young girl singing one of his arrangements on the ASAP variety show. It was OK but John Williams and Quincy Jones won't lose any sleep over him or it (the arrangement).

The Nightmare Academy is supposed to select Filipino vocal talent and train them to be better singers and performers. What has taken place is the talent THEY SELECTED has been ridiculed, verbally abused and placed under such pressure that the atmosphere created by the so called mentor/teachers and powers that be (producers) that it has put these young people in a negative mental frame of mind as if they were going before a firing squad or told by the Nazi's to enter a box car because they were going to be sent to a special summer camp to bask in the sun and sit by the pool and have a good time while all along the victims were being sent to Auschwitz to be burned to death.

Often you hear a judge say, "Enjoy the moment," inferring their time performing before the firing squad of judges after the students busted their @$$ trying to do what they are taught. The good news is that only one judge critiques a student after a performance. If they had all three judges critiquing all the performers as they do on American Idol it would probably be a contest of what judge could out rude the other.

"Relax on stage, enjoy your performance," Enjoy the moment," said first time judge Rachel Anne Go as she was encouraging Chris a Dream Academy contest to do. "Careful, flat, pitchy, more energy" she pointed out to Bea a girl with a weak voice who has been in the bottom three performers for three consecutive weeks. Given the more talented performers who departed the show it's amazing that Bea remains in the competition.

Go is also a performer on the ABS-CBN Networks ASAP variety show yet she couldn't practice what she preached. The following day during the opening ensemble song on the ASAP show Go was flat and couldn't hit her low notes with power. Go is younger than most of the Academy students. The upside is that Go is a very talented singer and musician in her own right and one of the best performers on the ASAP show but given all of her talent she makes mistakes too just like Dream Academy contestants.

The main difference being that Go has a job and is well known in the Philippine Entertainment business but the Dream Academy contestants are still trying to make a go of it and flap their wings to stardom. They are more in need of support and encouragement and not the mental and verbal beating down they are receiving from the DA mentors and judges.

Reyes appears to have lost the plot of his role as a teacher/mentor. During a class room session after Ross quit the Academy he angrily shouted at the students, "Some of you are so fuc#ing stupid." He then noted to his fellow mentors how good looking three of the students were. Reyes apparently has lost the plot which is to find and develop singing talent not PRETTY BOYS.

The crash and burn of this abortion of a show is not the students fault, it's the responsibility and fault of those who selected the contestants who are causing the problems. Dream Academy? Dream about what….CONFLICT AND DISHARMONY?

The powers that be have created a nightmare that is not waiting to happen… IT IS HAPPENING… DUE TO THEIR POOR DECISION MAKING.

The show is televised in the TFC (The Filipino Channel) on the ABS-SBN Network

Part 1 ... - Pinoy DREAM ACADEMY OUT OF CONTROL

Due to the length of this column next week we will reveal Our Choices for the TOP SIX VOICES

The Bloom Fell Off The Rose

What happened to a contest for teens that did not live up to it's former standards when these words were spoken: "Our society now has a bad problem with drugs and domestic violence. In order to solve these problems you have to start with the family but sometimes they don't understand. That's where we come in. It's not going to solve the problems of the world but at least we started something. We teach being a good teen at home by being a good son or daughter. At school (we teach) being a good student, in society to be a good friend. This is the concept we teach." COMING - The Bloom Fell Off The Rose
