APPRENTICE ASIA FINAL

Air Asia founder Tony Fernandes will make his final decision as to who will be his apprentice Wednesday July 31st. The program will be televised on the AXN channel in East Asia. It's female against male as 25-year-old female lawyer Andrea Loh from Singapore challenges an energetic young businessman Jonathan Yabut from the Philippines for the title and more importantly the job.

During the semifinal Top 4 round Fernandes had mixed feelings about the two contestants. He like Loh's sharp mind and ability to get the job done but is weary about her lack of business experience. She stood out when at the beginning of the series the girls defeated the men's team the first two episodes. Fernandes then switched her to the men's team to even up the sides. Loh was aggressive and assertive and led the men's team to four consecutive victories. When the men failed to win she used her lawyer skills in defending herself and won all of her arguments.

Yabut impresses with his energy and willingness to learn. His shortcomings are he is perceived by Fernandes' advisors, who interviewed both candidates, that he is a good prospect but in the long term. Yabut claims he is the best candidate since he worked hard all of his life to rise from poverty to be successful in the business world. He is perceived as being the best to mold into what Fernandes wants. The answer will be revealed Wednesday. The show will have several repeats throughout the week.

DENNIS RODMAN & VICE

If you're not aware of former NBA star Dennis Rodman visiting North Korea on a good will visit with three members of basketballs Harlem Globetrotters then you have a chance to view that trip on the Fox Crime channel in East Asia. The documentary was originally produced for HBO thus is old news to many American's.

The piece is interesting given the image of North Korea depicted by members of the US government who want to instill fear and anger towards the nation as being so dangerous. Rodman ventured into territory where US government officials fear to tread and interacted with the country's leader Kim Jong Un and the minders of the group's tour. The brave Rodman did it WITHOUT A GUN which it what US government officials would have you believe is necessary in their ready for war mentality.

Rodman and his entourage were treated with respect and appeared to enjoy their visit to the much beleaguered nation. In the closing credits of the film it was noted that the comments and opinions on this show do not represent the views of this channel thus HBO and the Fox Crime channel distanced themselves from Rodman and the tour. The bottom line is this program is a worth watch so you can form your own opinion on North Korea and not have an open mouth to eat the US government's propaganda.

IS HOLLYWEIRD A CANCER TO ATHLETES?

Previously we pointed out how the entertainment business affects some sports personalities resulting in an athletes poor performance and decline in skills. For the most part the athlete wants to be involved in the entertainment community and the entertainer wants to be associated with sports stars. The Los Angels Lakers Dwight Howard preferred not to be involved in the Hollyweird scene and left the team to sign with the Houston Rockets and concentrate on playing basketball and not trying to keep up with the Joneses' or the Hollyweird jet set scene.

Earlier this month Anderson Silva who is considered the best UFC fighter of all time was defeated and upset by Chris Weidman a relatively unknown fighter who had only 10 fights on his resume but was unbeaten. Silva held the longest title defense streak in UFC history until losing to Weidman, with 16 consecutive wins and 10 title defenses over a seven year span. His last defeat was on April 22, 2006.

Silva is a man of few words often stating that he will do his talking in the ring. When the fight started Silva lost the plot and went Hollyweird by making faces while sticking his chin out at Weidman. His showboat antics included bobbing, weaving around the ring and taunting Weidman until Weidman caught Silva's chin and knocked him out to take Silva's title. After the fight Silva claimed that it was his last and he was going to retire.

The most telling scenes were before the fight actor Steven Segal was seen visiting him in his dressing room. After the fight recording artist and The Voice judge Usher and his entourage were seen walking through the stadium corridors with Silva. The question is can this be another example of how Hollywierd can deteriorate an athlete's career?

FUN with BILLY THE EXTERMINATOR & CASH CAB

To free oneself of CNN's gloom and doom there two programs that will make most people laugh. One is Billy The Exterminator on the BIO channel in East Asia. Billy is a heavy metal type of exterminator. He wears black leather with metal spikes on his shoulders and wrists and a Crocodile Dundee styled black hat. He claims that they are not for show only but help in protecting him against angry animals such as snakes, bobcats, alligators and other critters who aren't pleased that Billy has captured them.

Billy has a sense of humor that compliments his heavy southern accent. His comments and expressions are laughable. What this show brings to those who admire America is through Billy the viewer will get a taste of the melting pot flavor of America with someone from the southern part of the country. One thing is certain Billy does not speak the Kings English.

Those who want to learn English via watching TV this is not a good example of proper English but it depicts the colorful diversity of the USA. Another positive result is Billy gives interesting insights to an animal's behaviors and dangers. One example is pointing out that a poisonous snake's head is larger than a non poisonous snake. The larger head enables the reptile to store its venom. For viewers in foreign countries this show would be interesting as animals are of interest.

Cash Cab is a series where its host and comedian Ollie Pettigrew picks up passengers at random in Singapore. After they get into his taxi he informs them that they are on a TV show. The riders can win money by answering questions correctly until they arrive at their destination. If they get three questions wrong they must return all the money they won up to that point and get out of the cab and complete the remainder of their trip on their own.

Pettigrew is excellent in this format. He is exuberant and has a greatpeople skills that seldom fails to break the ice of his riders as he immediately puts them at ease and they open up their personalities to him and the viewing audience.

This is a worth watch on the AXN channel in East Asia. Check the AXN website for the times and dates in your area. Both of these shows are for viewers of all ages. The bottom line in viewing this type of program is to enjoy life, learn and experience other cultures and most importantly… LAUGH.
