DID THE JUDGES MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE?

After this weeks performance show American Idol host Ryan Seacrest asked judge Steven Tyler that since the talent was so good throughout the evening how should the public vote? Tyler replied, "You've got to find somebody and moves you to tears and gets inside of you."

American voted and Casey Abrams was voted to be eliminated from the Top 10 American Idol summer tour. The musician/vocalist sang I Heard It Through The Grapevine. It was a rough version but he sold his bubbly personality. The trick bag to that is the judges had other ideas about his ensuing departure from the competition.

He will live another day on the show as he as the judges used their once only save for the talented performer to continues in the contest. It's a bit of a shocker since we pointed out in our last column that he doesn't have a good voice but is tremendously talented. His warm personality apparently has won the judges over.

As he was in the middle of singing a song to be saved the judges stopped him and said they didn't have to hear him anymore and that he was saved. The bad news is that next week two contestants with better voices will have to be eliminated because the save rule is used up. The question is did the judges use their save too early in the competition?

Throughout the show we critique and rate the contestants on a scale of 1 to 10. We gave Abrams our lowest rating with a 7. We noted that he was using too much of an affect to his true voice and the song wasn't a good choice for his style of singing.

The 20-year-old has shown his versatility since the competition began. When he originally auditioned he sang Ray Charles' "I Don't Need No Doctor". He impressed the judges with his performance of "Georgia on My Mind" in Hollywood week. He also performed Ella Fitzgerald's "Lullaby of Birdland", The Temptations' "Get Ready" with the group "Night Owls" in the Hollywood rounds, "A Hard Day's Night" with Chris Medina in the Las Vegas's Beatles round, and Kansas Joe McCoy's "Why Don't You Do Right?" for his final solo. He played the double bass and melodica on the show. He suffers from ulcerative colitis which resulted in him missing the Top 13 result show.

Haley Reinhart escaped the bottom 3 for the first time since the show went onto the regular season with the top 13. Thia Megia was the other bottom 3 selection but was later deemed safe. Megia listen to the judges advice and sang an up tempo song during the Motown week performances. She sang Martha and the Vandella's Heat Wave. She did a good job but apparently the viewing public didn't appreciate it.

This is the first week that there was a male in the bottom 3. This week there were two. Stephano Langone was also in the bottom 3 after his performance of Lionel Richie's Hello didn't grab the public's favor.

For real this has been the best season of talent that we have ever witnessed and it's a shame that more can't go on the tour. But business and concert time talks and your heart walks as next week there will continue to be 11 to pursue the Idol title holder of season 10.

A twist came about as Seacrest revealed that all of the current 11 contestants will go on tour this summer. It seems that Idol is making and changing the rules as they go along. In this case it is a good thing.

Country singer Scott Mc Creery took the Motown theme in stride and turned a Motown song into a pleasing country styling with his unique deep voice singing Stevie Wonder's For Once in My Life.

Jacob Lusk is settling down and not pressing as hard in forcing too many high notes and runs as we pointed out in our previous column. He still has a tendency to push too hard. His voice is great but his lack of professionalism is starting to show.

Pia Toscano continues to shine as she turned in another stellar performance singing Stevie Wonder's All In Love Is Fair. The judges agree that she is a star quality talent as Tyler said, Right now you are the closest star in American Idol universe." The judges did offer her criticism as they did Megia last week in relying on singing too many ballads. Randy Jackson commented, "You can't live on ballads alone."

Should she take their advice and sing an up tempo song next week and fall out of the publics favor and be voted off she being the most consistent strong performer up till now can't be saved and that would be a major tragedy. Her voice is light years ahead of Abrams whom we are a big fan of. The question is did the judges use the save TOO EARLY?
