THE TURNING POINT

With the demise of American Idol, The Voice continues to get it right with each season having a fresh approach while Idol was arrogant and overconfident decayed. This season The Voice came up with a human interest story as former child actress Alisan Porter, aka Curly Sue, who got caught up using drugs turned her life around and got sober eight years ago and focused on a career in music with the result being her winning The Voice Season 10 title.

Where Idol has had some very questionable winners The Voice continues to get it right as Porter is deserving of the title. Her performances were strong throughout the competition starting with the blind auditions when she sang "Blue Bayou". All four coaches - Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Pharrell Williams - turned their chairs for her and she chose Aguilera as her coach.

Her relationship with Aguilera bonded according to Porter since they each have children and music careers. The relationship developed into a friendship which became transparent with each coaching encounter.

Porter's most stellar performances were is the finale with her rendition of "Somewhere" and then topped that off performing her original song "Down That Road" that impressed the judges.

Porter first laid her claim to fame as she was the youngest person ever to win Star Search at age 5. She also was a child actress who stared in the 1991 film Curly Sue.

Aside from her talent her human interest story seemed to endear the viewers to her. She admitted to being overly involved with drugs. Her turnaround was when she married Brian Autenrieth, a fruit exporter and former child soap opera actor. They had two children which she credits to help turning her life around as it was about them and she had to change her ways.

Porter's win wasn't easy a she had stiff competition particularly from the multi talented runner-up Adam Wakefield. Wakefield's voice is as strong as Porters with greater variables as he is capable is singing several genres. He is also in an extremely competent musician with his ability to play several instruments. He was our choice to win but the reality is that the show is titled THE VOICE and not the musician/voice. Apparently the viewers failed to recognize his versatile talents but Porters win deserved.

There were some strange American idol like twists to this season's show which we hope the The Voice isn't catching the American Idol disease of tampering and manipulating the results. What jumped out the most was the elimination of Mary Sarah and Shalyah Fearing who were more consistent throughout the competition.

Both were eliminated in the semifinal or top 8 that cut four contestants to qualify for the final four in the finals. Opinion has it that Hannah Huston was selected to go through to enable her coach Pharrell Williams to have a talent represented in the finale. During the finale each coach had one singer with whom they sang a duet. If Williams didn't have a partner that feature would have been unlikely.

Houston came on strong during the final three shows. She was inconsistent through the competition. Her drab personality raises some concerns as to why she qualified for the finale. With all due respect she was stellar during those final three shows and really turned it up in the semifinal when she sang "When a Man Loves a Woman" which was her most memorable performance throughout the competition.

The major factor in a change in the show is given Porters win Christina Aguilera is the first female coach to win The Voice.

Next season The Voice will continue to keep the show fresh (as American Idol did not); when for the first time they will have two female judges. The word is that at this point Alicia Keys and Hannah Montana aka Miley Cyrus are scheduled to join Blake Shelton and Adam Levine.

In summery The Voice continues to be the choice as long as they don't catch the American idol MANIPULATION of THE RESULTS DISEASE.
