IT'S OVER FOR SANJAYA

If you believe in the saying it ain't over till the fat lady sings then the fat lady has sung for former American Idol contestant Sanjaya Malakar as a contestant on the reality series Í'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

Simon Cowell's not so favorite AI contestant did himself proud as he finished fifth of 14 contestants on the Celebrity program. He did everything right including winning more challenges than the others as wee as saying or doing anything wrong. He played his cards well but simply ran out of fans who voted him out.

The finals today (Wednesday) feature actor Lou Diamond Philips, former NBA player John Salley and professional female wrestler Torrie Wilson.

Philips achieved fame at the beginning of his career staring portraying 50's rock singer Ritchie Valens in the 1987 biopic hit La Bamba. He earned a supporting actor Golden Globe Award nomination for his role in Stand and Deliver and a Tony Award nomination for his role in The King and I. A point of interest for viewers in the Asian Pacific region is the 47-year-old Philips is of Philippine decent.

Salley 45 was a member of four NBA title winning teams including the Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers. His pro basketball career includes stints with Detroit Pistons (1986-1992), Miami Heat (1992-1995), Toronto Raptors (1995-1996), Chicago Bulls (1996), Panathinaikos BC (1996) and the Los Angeles Lakers (1999-2000).

Salley retired from the game following the Lakers 2000 championship season after proudly proclaiming that he had won "four championship rings, with three different teams, in three different decades and two different millenniums."

Aside from wrestling, Wilson 34 has been on the cover of several magazines, including FHM and Playboy, which she posed for twice. Wilson was also number forty-three on FHM's 100 Sexiest Women in the World list in 2007. She has also been on AskMen.com's list of the Most Desirable Women in the World twice: she was number twenty-two in 2006 and number sixty-five in 2007. Wilson, along with several other Divas, filmed Timbaland's music video "Throw It On Me."

So who will wear the Celebrity crown? Tune in or tune out…

AUSTRALIA'S FIRST INHABITANTS

It seems that the Discovery, National Geographic and Australia Networks are the only networks that offer intelligent programming in the Asian Pacific region at this time of the year. Their Australia Network's series Blood Sweat & T-shirts has completed its run. Missing Persons new season airs on Tuesdays. Unlike its competitors these networks provide programming that is enlightening that provokes thought.

Their most riveting program recently televised is Australia Network's series Australia's First Inhabitants which reveals how invaders from England pilfered the country from the indigenous Aborigines people. In the process they beat and murdered them, took them as slaves, took their women while murdering their husbands and raped the women and children.

Though they had sex with children they weren't portrayed as pedophiles. Their behavior was described as normal considering they were men in the wild and without women. The program airs on Sunday night.

Also on the Australia Network is Crime & Justice which is similar to the American TV show Cops. The shows focus is on Australian police apprehending criminals. The schedule is below in our TV schedule.

TWITTER JITTERS

When you hear TV celebrities and news personalities promote their use of the social networking website Twitter you have to wonder why such hype and what's in it for them. It's as if they have some sort of financial interest in the company which at present not making money and has yet to figure out how to monetize it. In a Universe of websites Twitter has only 8 million users. Reports note that it has been hacked into by cyber thieves and celebrity's personal information has been stolen. The anti virus company McAfee has issued a report on Twitter and other cyber thieves targets. FULL STORY…

BITS

ITS ON!!! -- AMAZING RACE (USA) is slated to begin a new season September 28th on the AXN Network with a two hour special... The Philippines ABS/CBN Network is currently auditioning potential contestants for the new season of Big Brother. The search reaches to Japan, London and the USA.

***

SAY WHAT!!! -- The Australia Network's ABC new reported that the annual Pig Fair was canceled this year for fears of swine flu. An organizer interviewed said that they wanted to protect the pigs from the people.

LOST THE PLOT -- ESPN'S Football Crazy has undergone some changes. Co-host Andy Penders is no longer on the show. Jamie Yeo returns with a new co-host. The show has totally lost the plot and the format which made the program popular. It is now focused on Yeo attempting to be a comedian and she fails miserably. It also features Yeo as an offbeat model wearing fashion that has nothing to do with football. During the shortened show from 1 hour now ½ hour there is very little information relevant to football. Though Yeo is a great talent this format does her no justice.

GO FIGURE - On CNN'S Amanpour Reports this past Sunday it was noted that the US government pays only $2,000 to families of innocent civilians the killed in Afghanistan. This week Amanpour had her new nightly show debut on CNN.

AMERICAN IDOL RERUNS TRANSLATED IN KHMER LANGUAGE

It seems that American Idols licensing partner Freemantle Media is doing business in Cambodia as Cambodia's My TV is airing reruns of the show with Khmer translations on Sunday afternoons. My TV is positioned in the channel previously designated for the CTN (Cambodian Television Network) International channel. That channel has been moved to a less favorable position from 51 to 68 which is at the end of the channel spectrum on many of the older TV sets in Cambodia.
