LOS ANGELES, CA. USA -- (BUSINESS WIRE)

Thursday, July 09, 2015

American Friends of Yitzhak Rabin (AFYR) announced that they will honor Randy Cammack, President of Teamsters Joint Council 42, with the 2015 Yitzhak Rabin Leadership and Public Service Award at a gala dinner at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles on July 9, 2015. AFYR will also recognize Ken Howard, President, SAG-AFTRA, with the 2015 Yitzhak Rabin Legacy Award.

“This year marks the 20th anniversary of my father’s assassination, and it brings me great pride to present these awards to Randy Cammack and Ken Howard – two prestigious labor leaders who help to keep the spirit of my father’s legacy alive by fighting for union workers,” stated Yuval Rabin. “Cammack has been instrumental not only in problem solving day-to-day operations for 150,000 union members but also protecting 50,000 Teamster retiree families. Similarly, Howard has established his legacy as the first elected president of the recently joined unions of SAG and AFTRA, a highly beneficial merger for actors and performers.”

Led by Master of Ceremonies, Frank Mottek, anchor of Money News on CBS’ KNX 1070 Newsradio, distinguished speakers will include: Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (keynote speaker), David Siegel, Consul General of Israel in Los Angeles and Yuval Rabin, son of late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Steve Dayan, Secretary-Treasurer, Studio Transportation Drivers, Teamsters Local 399, will present the Legacy award to Howard. James P. Hoffa, Teamsters General President, will present the Leadership and Public Service award to Cammack.

As a young man fresh out of the United States Air Force, Cammack first became a Teamster when he joined United Parcel Service as a delivery driver in the 1960s in downtown Los Angeles. Today, he is president of the largest regional arm of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which encompasses 150,000 union members who belong to 22 local unions stretching from Nevada and Southern California to Hawaii and Guam.

At the gala, Cammack will be recognized for his relentless dedication to union workers. Specifically, he will be acknowledged for developing innovative platforms to train and employ American service veterans in union jobs such as construction, and for his skills in collective bargaining in the food industry.

“I am flattered to have been selected to receive the 2015 Yitzhak Rabin Leadership and Public Service Award during this special 20th year commemoration of Rabin’s assassination,” Cammack said. “Rabin was a man who fought tirelessly for everyday people. I am humbled by being associated with his leadership.”

Howard was selected as recipient of the Yitzhak Rabin Legacy Award for achieving the 2012 merger of SAG and AFTRA, succeeding where two previous attempts had fallen short. Howard will also be recognized for his dedication to fostering young artists and encouraging creativity in young people to help them jumpstart their careers in the entertainment and media industry.
