BECKHAM ABUSE CONTINUES

It should rank as a crime that some bottom feeding journalist in an effort to publicize his unauthorized book could plant seeds and disrupt the harmony of a team and jeopardize the career of an already legendary player. Within a month of the Beckham is not committed to the Galaxy scandal 93,137 people turned out at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California USA to boo David Beckham and conversely cheer a team from the other side of the world Barcelona.

With all of the problems the digging for dirt Sports Illustrated journalist (?) has caused Beckham-mania continues to exist in the US of A. It is doubtful that a Beckham-less Galaxy could draw the largest crowd for a soccer game in USA since the 1994 World Cup.

The results were Beckham scored the Galaxy's only goal in their 2-1 loss to the Spanish club on one of his spot on free kicks from 26-yards out. After the score Beckham was pictured hugging the teammate who criticized him Landon Donavon. The look on Beckham's face was steady now lets get it together. In the scandalous book Donovan accused Beckham as not being dedicated to the Galaxy and a bad teammate.

The irony is that Donovan's comments were made to the author of the disgraceful book rather than directly man to man to Beckham. Donovan later regretted his childish way of handling the matter.

The Beckham drama began in early July prior to Beckham returning to the Galaxy from a five-month loan to AC Milan. Fans waiving insulting banners about Beckham attended a friendly game in Los Angeles with AC Milan. During the game a taunting fan jumped out of the stands to challenge Beckham to what remains unclear. The incident resulted in the fan being removed from the grounds and banned from the stadium for life.

Beckham assumed part of the responsibility in the fans actions since he motioning to his tormentor to leap down to the pitch. When the fan hit the pitch he was restrained by security personnel. It is believed that Beckham through the Galaxy requested that the ban be removed and it was. Beckham was fined $1,000 by MLS commissioner Don Garber for his participation.

Though Beckham claims that he's not gong to let the hecklers cause him to lose any sleep it's a problem that he and the Galaxy shouldn't have to deal with. The outrageous thing is it's all about a malcontent writer trying to sell his book.

REAL MADRID MAKES NR ALL-TIME TOP 10

Real Madrid's former Los Galácticos team made a major impact on the ALL TIME NR TOP 10 ratings by taking the second position. The clubs spending huge sums of money to acquire marquee names wasn't as fruitful as it was expected to be though they did achieve some success. Fast forward to today Manchester City seems to be attempting the same tactic with the difference being that City doesn't have the history of success that Real has had over the years.

FIFA TOP 10 - Brazil knock Spain off top spot

Change at the top following FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil knock Spain off top spot

Victory on all fronts for Brazil : after winning the FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa , the Seleçao have regained the top spot in the FIFAWorld Ranking, thus relegating European champions Spain (2nd, down 1) to second place. The South Americans last topped the ranking in August 2007, a position to which they have climbed six times in the history of the ranking. The Netherlands (3rd, down 1), Italy (4th, unchanged) and Germany (5th, down 2), occupy the next three places, but are some way behind the leading duo. Russia (6th, up 3) have overtaken England (7th, down 1) and Argentina (8th, down 1), achieving their best position since August 1997 in the process.

Of the other countries that took part in the FIFA Confederations Cup, finalists the USA (12th, up 2), Egypt (38th, up 2) and hosts South Africa (70th, up 2) have also progressed up the ranking. Egypt ’s improved position despite their early exit from the tournament is due to their 1-0 victory over world champions Italy , which scored very highly in terms of ranking points. Meanwhile, disappointing performances by Iraq (94th, down 17) and New Zealand (100th, down 18) caused them to lose ground.

In other news, Algeria (47th, up 19) and Tunisia (49th, up 2) have climbed into the top 50 at the expense of Burkina Faso (51st, down 1) and Finland (52nd, down 3). Furthermore, the following teams have achieved their best position since the ranking was introduced in 1993: Australia (16th, up 13), Gabon (30th, up 18), Grenada (88th, up 14), Montenegro (98th, up 12) and Antigua and Barbuda (105th, up 9).

In the last four weeks, a total of 119 senior international matches were played: 16 FIFA Confederations Cup matches, 67 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches and 36 friendlies. This brings the total matches played this year to 406. The many matches played and the devaluation of matches at EURO 2008 are the main reasons for the many changes in position in this edition of the ranking.
