Miami Heat's LeBron James is all smiles again as team starts winning - NBA photo

SPORTS NOTES Part 1 - THE MIAMI HEAT FIRE UP!!!

MIAMI TURN THE HEAT ON AND ARE WINNING

You can visualize the Miami Heat listening to Jim Morrison of the Doors singing come on baby light my fire as they were in the midst of a miserable 9-8 start and almost the laughing stock of the NBA. The team failed to live up to their super star team billing and their performance was dismal as they lacked the spark, fire and winning rhythm that was expected of them. So.... something or someone has lit their fire and the Heat is on again.

Since we wrote our story about the Heats problems and what appeared to be a lack of respect for their coach Erik Spoelstra the team has had player only meetings as well as LeBron James meeting with Spoelstra to clear the air. Strange enough Pat Riley the top boss with the contract sauce stayed out of it and let the principles work the problem out for themselves.

The inner team communications worked and the Heat has reeled off six straight victories raising their record to 15-8 and second place in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference and half game behind leaders the Orlando Magic. That puts them over our danger zone of a no return cutoff of 22 games for them to make a coaching change or the team would be out of the picture and self destruct their title hopes. It was their lack of energy, cohesiveness and effort that flared up.

Now the team appears to be on rocket mode and they've been blasting away opponents with authority and for the first time this season appear to be having fun. Can the Heat stay HOT or will they FLAME OUT again? Stay tuned....

SPORTS LIVES UPS AND DOWNS

When it comes to forgiveness some involved in sports are on an upswing and others on their way down. Down is former Newcastle manager Chris Hughton after being appointed to the job a year ago. He joined the club as their first team coach in 2008, and following their relegation as caretaker manager took charge of their first season in the Championship, before being announced as permanent manager in October 2009. He was sacked as manager by Mike Ashley on 6 December 2010

Hughton's leading the team back to the Premiere League translated into millions of dollars for the club. Hughton was shocked about the sacking. The only reason that comes to light for the move was the team only took 2 of a possible 15 points in their last five games including a 3-1 loss to West Brom in his final game as manager.

Hughton's side has shown strength this season in defeating current league leaders Arsenal away and drew with Chelsea at home. When he was terminated the Magpies were in 11th place on the table with 19 points and a 5 W 4 D 7 L record just four points from the sixth position.

Of note during his playing career the now 51-year-old Hughton earned 53 caps for the Republic of Ireland national team, their first black international, starting all three games in UEFA Euro 1988 in West Germany. There appears to be more to this story than what has been disclosed. Place this in the NO RESPECT WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY file...

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick of America's NFL (National Football League) is on his way to forgiveness and is moving up in the world as he has led the birds to first place in the NFC Eastern Division with an 8 W 4 L record.

The 30-year old has appeared in nine of the teams games and the Eagles have a 6-3 record in the games that he has appeared. Vick has a history of problems with the law. His most notable crime was the dog fighting case which led to a jail sentence.

At the end of 2006, Sports Illustrated magazine estimated Vick's annual income between his NFL salary and endorsements at $25.4 million, ranking him just below NASCAR's Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in a listing of highest earning athletes. He went bankrupt while in prison. His problems are massive but his current performance on the field is winning him renewed acclaim and is helping lift the negative weight off of his shoulders.

Vick's football credits include:

* On November 15, 2010, Vick became the first player in NFL history with 300 passing yards, 50 rushing yards, four passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in a game. Vick also became the first player in NFL history to have three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in the first half of a game.

* In 2006, Vick became the only quarterback in NFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards during the regular season.

* In 2006, Vick set the NFL record for most yards per carry in a season with 8.4.

* Vick (1,039 yards) and Dunn (1,140) became the first QB/RB tandem in NFL history to each go over the 1,000-yard rushing mark in the same season. They became the fourth set of teammates in league history to each have 1,000 or more yards.

* Made his third Pro Bowl in 2005 as he passed for 2,412 yards and 16 touchdowns in addition to leading all NFL quarterbacks with 597 rushing yards and six scores.

* Named to the second Pro Bowl of his career after leading the Falcons to their third division title in team history and breaking numerous NFL and team records in 2004.

* Set an NFL postseason record for a quarterback with 119 rushing yards in the 2004 NFC Divisional playoff win against the Rams.

* Became the first quarterback to throw for more than 250 yards and rush for over 100 yards in the same game in Denver (October 31, 2004).

Mike Tyson has been forgiven for eating a part of Evander Holyfield's ear and serving time for rape as he was elected to the Boxing Hall of Fame...
