SPORTS NOTES Part 2 - ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST - ARGENTINA THRASHED BY GERMANY 4-0

James Loving/National Radio Text Service

Maradona's troops were ambushed, chewed up and spit out by the young German team. Miroslav Klose scored two goals to trail only Brazil's Ronaldo 15 goals World Cup record. Maradona will most likely be crucified by the media for Argentina's poor showing after a fast start in their run for the title. The question will be where did it all go wrong?

ARGENTINA CHEWED UP & SPIT OUT

If you're looking for a doctor in the house there's a whole team of them who know how to slice and dice an opponent as was the case of Germany dissecting Argentina 4-0 to advance to the semifinals and face Spain. The Germans were so precise in the dismantling of Maradona's troops that they made a massacre enjoyable to watch.

The Argentines were so out of their game their faces showed the look of astonishment as the Germans repeatedly attacked and passed with precision to the open man. Miroslov Klose nailed two goals (68 & 89) bringing his career World Cup total to 14 thus surpassing soccer legend Pele in World Cup scoring and tying countryman Gerd Mueller. Klose accomplished his feat in his 100th national team game and trails only Brazil's Ronaldo's 15 tallies to tie for the record.

A goal of beauty was the opening goal by 20-year-old Thomas Mueller at the 3 minute mark that was s sign of things to come as Argentina never were in this game from that point on. Should the Germans continue to play at this level they should win the title.

For Argentina their story book fast track trail to the world Cup title came to an end and much of the blame will be headed toward Maradona who was beleaguered in the press since he took the job throughout the qualifiers. The question was is he the right man for the job. His decision making was challenged but as Argentina was doing so well in the tournament his tormentors started to praise him and Argentina was favored by many to take it all. This was their worst performance and their last in this World Cup as they are now headed home somewhat baffled of their roller coaster ride that ended on the down side.

The question is will the media ride Maradona to the point where he decides the trouble isn't worth it and step away as manager? Stay tuned...
