SPORTS NOTES - CLIPPERS GET RIGHTEOUS with KAWHI LEONARD

James Loving/National Radio Text Service

The burden was heavy for Kawhi Leonard, to remain with the NBA champion Toronto Raptors or go. His options were narrowed down to returning to his home area. His choices were the LA Lakers with super stars LeBron James and Antonio Davis OR... the long time lowly regarded LA Clippers who had NO SUPER STARS but achieved a spectacular 48-34 season. They were the best team in LA this season with a band of gritty role players and young prospects that qualified for the playoffs. Leonard decided to focus on basketball and not play the Hollyweird game with the Lakers

The PAUL GEORGE DEAL MADE IT HAPPEN & LAKERS DISSED

Following leading the Toronto Raptors to their first NBA title MVP Kawhi Leonard became a hot property. The question was would Leonard exercise his option to leave a title winning team for the bight lights of LA and the Lakers or stay.

Leonard was stellar throughout the entire NBA playoffs. He averaged 28.5 point, 9.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists as well as utilizing his All NBA defensive skills. It's those skills that made him that made him so valuable and special... he plays the game at BOTH ENDS of the floor.

The burden was heavy to remain or go.

The Clippers had a long serving coach in Doc Rivers who led the Boston Celtics to an NBA title in 2008 defeating the Lakers 4-2 in a best of seven series. What Rivers achieved this season was incredible by having a non super star squad in which half of the side was traded away at mid season along with their star player Tobias Harris.

Leonard sacrificed money to focus on basketball. He could have signed with the Clippers for a four-year deal of $164 million but it is believed that he eventually signed a three-year, $103.1 million deal that includes a player option for the 2021-22 season. Had the remained with the Raptors he could have signed for a five-year, $221 million contract.

The 37-45 out of the playoffs Lakers pride themselves as being champions although under the watch of Jeanie Buss they have set a franchise record FOR LOSING. Incredibly… THEY ARE NOW LOSERS with LeBron James. Under Buss they have NEVER HAD A WINNING SEASON!

Forget about having James and Davis… their management is in TURMOIL. It has been in chaos since the Jeanie Buss era. She simply doesn't know how to manage and keeps selling to star players they are interested in signing to join their VICTORIOUS HISTORY and hang out with the Hollyweird stars.

Buss keeps referring to her players as joining the Lakers family. The problem is the NBA IS A BUSINESS NOT A FAMILY. The players present and past keep stating that THEY LOVE JEANIE. Why? Are they being supplied lines or is she the R Kelly of the NBA? Apparently it was this aspect that signed, sealed and delivered Leonard to the Clippers. Leonard is a hard hat, blue collar kind of guy. He wants to PLAY BASKETBALL NOT PLAY HOLLYWEIRD.

By signing with the Clippers he escapes the glamorous life of the Lakers and can focus on playing the game of basketball with their cross town rival Clips. He can do his lines pre-game game warm up, lay-up line.
