THE DALLAS MAVERICKS BLUNDER DRAMA

You can only compare the Dallas Mavericks trading Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis as the biggest trade blunder since the Boston Red Sox traded Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. If you're thinking Shohei Ohtani going from the LA Angels to the LA Dodgers the difference is it wasn't a trade, Ohtani was a free agent but it remains an Angel, poor evaluation, blunder.

But let us take a moment and bow our heads and pray for the Mavericks a team that is owned by Israel's wealthiest citizen. As redemption the organization recently fired the GM that made the trade Nico Harrison.

Prior to taking the job involving evaluating men he came from the Nike athletic shoe company. He was used to signing players as endorsements and paying them huge sums of money to sign up, and that's a different ball game.

Following the trade Mavs fans were outraged and asked for Harrison's head on a platter, to be fired. It took a year to get that job done. Harrison said of the fans outrage that he didn't know Doncic was so popular.

Lord above or wherever you are, the man knew nothing about the job he was taking. He didn't know his product. Worse is the Israeli's that hired him didn't know how to recruit a man that had experience of the NBA personnel and values of its players.

Doncic is a gift from God. He is one of the most talented players ever in the league. He's a no brainer to be a member of the NBA Hall of Fame. He's still a baby at 26 with years to improve providing that he stays healthy.

The franchise is currently in disarray. They're trying to pick up the pieces of what once was a winning organization. The upside is they have a solid 18-year-old rookie in Cooper Flagg. He's averaging a solid 16 points and 6 rebounds a game.

While a forward in college he's now playing out of position as a point guard while he's still learning the league and visa, versa. He'll never be a steady high 30 points per game man but has the talent to earn a career average of over 20 points per game plus contribute a solid rebound production with his 6'9" 205 lbs. frame.

Since the trade Davis 32, has played only 13 games for them. With a $52 million a season salary his current value is that he is being paid almost $4 million a game.

Kyrie Irving, the Mavs other star player, is out recovering from a serious injury and may take months to recover. At 32 there is no telling what is left in his skill arsenal.

Michael Thompson once a major three-point shooter threat is suffering his career production low. The threat he was when he was with the Warriors teamed up with Stephen Curry as the two biggest three-point threat duos in league history. Since his foot injury, that cost him two seasons to recover, Thompson appears like a man lost in the shuffle. He's 35 and appears to have lost his confidence and skills.

The good news is the team's cancer has been sent on his way. The bad news is the Israeli owners are poor decision makers when it comes to owning an NBA franchise. The NBA is not a hotel/gaming business it's about evaluating and managing talent. For that matter it is not the baby killing business. One thing is certain; the franchise will always be remembered as making the league's biggest blunder in trading Doncic away.

In searching for a qualified GM perhaps they should consider Jason Kidd for the dual role as coach and GM. He knows the league and as a player is recognized for making good decisions. The point being… DO YOU AGREE OR NOT?

NBA THIS DAY

November 22, 1950 The Fort Wayne Pistons defeated the Minneapolis Lakers 19-18 in Minneapolis in the lowest-scoring game in NBA history.

November 22, 1961 St. Louis Hawks forward Bob Pettit connected on all 19 of his foul shots in a 141-121 loss at Boston, establishing what was then an NBA record.

November 22, 1992 Rick Adelman posted the 200th victory of his coaching career as the Blazers beat Detroit, 115-90. At the time, no coach had reached the 200-win milestone that quickly. The win came in his 288th game.

November 22, 1994 Golden State Coach Don Nelson became the first individual in NBA history to participate in 2,700 career games as a player or coach (both regular season and playoffs), during the Warriors' 102-98 road setback at Golden State. Later in the 1994-95 season, Nelson was passed in career NBA game appearances, as a player or coach, by Atlanta head coach Lenny Wilkens.

November 22, 2000 The Philadelphia 76ers lost 88-73 to the Charlotte Hornets, ending their season-opening winning streak at 10 games. The Sixers became the 12th team in NBA history to begin a season with at least 10 consecutive victories.
