YENG Constantino WINS Pinoy DREAM ACADEMY FINAL

It's all over but the shouting as Yeng Constantino walked off with the Philippines first ever Pinoy Dream Academy title.

The diminutive homegrown 18-year-old lady who is also referred to as a "rebel-rocker," amassed 697,648 (37.32%) of the 2,956,252 votes that were cast world wide via Text PDA and the Internet. Her title included winning one millions pesos ($20,000 US).

Yeng's vibrant persona, performance and songwriting skills helped her to the title. Abutin Ang Pangarap ("Reach for the Dream"), made during the show's run that was written by her became the main theme song of the show.

Yeng hails from Rodriguez, Rizal, Philippines. She succeeded after four months of intense training in voice, dance, performance and physical fitness from numerous Philippine teachers with professional backgrounds in the arts.

Among them were voice teachers who perform themselves as a vocal group named The Company who are similar to the USA's Manhattan Transfer group.

The contestants ranging in age from 18-25 were recruited worldwide of those who had Filipino heritage. Contestants included Filipinos that lived in Dubai, Australia, Japan, Netherlands, Canada, USA and Italy.

The program was televised Internationally on the ABS-CBN television network from its inception in August.

The 20 contestants were trained and lived in a house together during that time with one contestant per week being eliminated.

Though there were better singers Yeng excelled in performance and songwriting. Her energetic bubbly personality stood out and helped her make it to the final six where the decision-making was entirely done by the International TV audience.

In the elimination rounds to reduce the number of contestants from 20 to 10 there was a four step voting process that the contestants had to survive.

The four poorest performers based on grades on the jurors/judges were placed on probation and had to go the extra mile that they had to perform a additional song on the next show that was judged with the lowest automatically place in a group of four that were up for elimination at the end of the program.

Fan voting was the next step. Their votes could save a poor performer. Their decision making in many cases was based on a performers good looks.

The teachers then saved a contestant based on their opinion who should go forward.

The remaining students would then vote on camera and choose who they wanted to remain in the house.

Arguably the process had its faults. A number of the students that had good quality voices were eliminated.

The final six contestants were comprised of three girls and three boys. There were two International contestants, a girl Irish Fullerton 23, a nursing student from California, USA and a boy Richard "Chad" Peralta 21, an IT consultant from Australia.

The others consisted of Ronnie Liang 21, a former Pinoy Pop Superstar contestant from Angeles City who is tall and good looking, Jay-R Siaboc 19, the vocalist of the Scrambled Eggs band from Cebu and Panky Trinidad 20, referred to as a passionate musician from Cebu.

Panky is a Roseanne Barr big tough girl type who had people problems during the series but was voted the best performer numerous times. Her love for dancing stood out.

Jay-R was the runner-up. That honor earned him a 500,000 peso ($10,000 US) cash prize.

When all was said and done and the votes were tallied the remaining voting results were:

2. Jay-R Siaboc - 612,767

3. Ronnie Liang - 558,923

4. Panky Trinidad - 421,631

FRESHIE TV SCHEDULING WOES

The Freshie Boy and Girl television show was originally scheduled to be televised at 5:30 PM Saturday December 16.

For the second week in a row on NO notice Cambodia's TV 3 scheduled the show to air at 5:15pm.

A Show with muscle men was placed in the more key time slot when the Freshie Contest went off the air at 6:15pm. Go figure.

The sponsors during the first 15 minutes of the Freshie telecast lose out on audience share when viewers tune in at 5:30 and the first 15 minutes of the show is history. So much for good planning and satisfying sponsors.

The future shows are scheduled to be televised on a delay basis on Cambodia's TV 3 on Saturdays December 23 and 30.

WHAT TIME it will air REMAINS A MYSTERY given TV 3's track record. If you want to go by the last minute changes this past week then it should start at 5:00 pm. STAY TUNED…

WORLD'S APART

WORLD'S APART is a good TV show to watch on the AXN channel. It sends an American family to a foreign land to live with indigenous people for 10 days. The family has to adapt to their culture and ways.

This is the perfect show that demonstrates how people can get along.

Note: This show is in reruns and is subject to a limited run. Check your local listings for time and date in your area.

JAY LENO Is (Spot) On

You often hear the phrase SPOT ON meaning you got it right or it's hot. When it comes to comedy often the humor is lost in the translation of language or a cultural misunderstanding.

Jay Leno is recognized as one of America's top comedians. He took over The Tonight Show that Johnny Carson hosted for many decades. They said nobody could replace Carson but Leno certainly has having hosted the show for a decade himself.

To see if Leno is SPOT ON for you the show airs on the CNBC channel Saturday night and Sunday afternoons in the Southeast Asia region. Check your listings.

In Cambodia and Thailand it is televised at 9pm Saturday and 3pm Sunday. CHECK IT OUT.
