LESSON'S CAN BE LEARNED

Year after year there is always a contestant that sings a Whitney Houston song and is informed by the judges that there is only one Whitney and they shouldn't try to sing her songs because they will fall short of what Houston could do.

Now that Houston has passed away perhaps the Idols and other entertainment hopefuls can learn from her death that regardless of how talented the best can fall prey to being around the wrong people. In the entertainment business hangers on and ruthless individuals will try to get next to a star by giving them drugs for FREE UNTIL they are hooked and dependent. At that point the star loses perspective and becomes a slave to drugs, alcohol and narcotics.

The other lesson is that due to her irresponsible lifestyle Houston lost her dynamic voice and became despondent. Following her death CNN had extensive coverage of entertainers and doctors addressing the drugs and stars issue. The video clip most frequently telecast was an interview the Houston did with Diane Sawyer then of ABC television in the USA. Sawyer asked a relaxed Houston is she did crack and she struck a Houston nerve. Houston's emotions changed immediately and she leaned forward and blurted out, "First of all let's get one thing straight, I don't do crack. Crack is cheap, crack is whack."

CNN's Piers Morgan had Dr. Deepak Chopra and Dr. Drew Pinskey as guests the week following her death. Both condemned enablers or those who provide drugs or permit a known drug addict to use them in front of them. They also condemned doctors that write prescriptions for stars. Both doctors reasoned if her friends were true friends they would have tried to stop her. Houston's friends say that Houston was a grown woman and did what she pleased.

Chopra said, "Once and addict always an addict. Fame itself is an addiction." He noted that (some) doctors are addicted to the celebrity. He referred to many doctors as being pill mills who own pharmacies and provide prescriptions to stars to be in their good favor and perhaps in with the in crowd.

Chopra owns a detox center in Paradise Valley, British Columbia Canada. One of his patients is Demi Moore who despite Morgan's urging he refused to talk about Moore's condition or comment on her recovery.

Pinskey also appeared on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 program where he pointed out, "Addicts are demanding. An addict doesn't have a choice. Their will is broken. Their brain is damaged."

Actor Daniel Baldwin who is a recovering drug addict said of Houston on Morgan's February 16th show, "Whitney could have easily eliminated those people (enablers) from her life. At the end of the day she is responsible. Whitney Houston was a junkie. She was suffering from an aging voice. Cocaine destroys (voice) especially when smoked."

Songwriter producer David Foster told Morgan that the voice is a muscle. As you get older the singers lower the key lower and lower. He noted that singers hit it hard during a span of 7-10 years the boom… (their voice) it's gone.

PEOPLE PUBLISHES HOUSTON COMMEMORATIVE BOOK

With all of the discussions surrounding Houston's death People Magazine opted to publish a Commemorative Book about her. As the publication publicizes it, 'PEOPLE' Announces Commemorative Book, Remembering Whitney, Celebrating the Extraordinary Life & Career of Legendary Singer Whitney Houston.

Their press release went on to say: PEOPLE magazine, the world's most popular celebrity weekly, announces the release of the commemorative book Remembering Whitney, 1963-2012, a tribute to the legendary singer and actress, who died suddenly on the eve of the 2012 Grammy Awards.

The 96-page commemorative soft cover book, which hit newsstands on February 24th ($11.99/US), is rich with photos and insights on the remarkable life and career of the award-winning singer. Hers was a skyrocket of a life, a tale of beauty, soaring talent, and the risks of stardom. Whitney Houston was born to sing: Her mom, Cissy Houston, is a noted gospel singer; Dionne Warwick was her cousin, soul great Aretha Franklin her aunt. And she was beautiful: Before she ever had a big radio hit, a teenage Whitney was booking modeling gigs in major magazines. Legendary talent guru Clive Davis heard her sing in a club and signed her to Arista Records at age 19; her first album, Whitney Houston, spawned three No. 1 hits and made her a staple on MTV. Seven years later, The Bodyguard made her a movie star.

But at the height of an almost-unprecedented arc, something went wrong. Her marriage to singer Bobby Brown coincided with a slip from the pinnacle; soon Houston was missing shows, behaving erratically and, eventually, admitting to drug problems. A comeback had started to gain traction-until, the night before the 2012 Grammy Awards, the 48-year-old star was found dead, of unspecified causes, in her Beverly Hills hotel room.

Packed with photos and insight, PEOPLE'S Remembering Whitney, 1963-2012, looks back on the remarkable life and career of one of the world's greatest vocalists.

The hardcover version of Remembering Whitney, 1963-2012, is available beginning May 10th ($19.95/US) wherever books are sold and can be ordered online at www.people.com/whitneybook.
