IDOLS DON'T KNOW WHAT'S THE DEAL

The Turtles sang it best... HAPPY TOGETHER and so it was as the Season 9 American Idol Top 10 finalists were interviewed by Larry King in his annual meeting with the group after the title has been decided.

Winner Lee DeWyze was first up followed closely by Crystal Bowersox as they sounded as if Lee's win was without jealousy from the other contestants. Bowersox said the morning of the final she woke up with a premonition that Lee would win. We noted that DeWyze would win weeks before after hearing the judges consistently give DeWyze reinforcement that YOU CAN WIN THIS THING. Too much of that prompted us to believe that the THE FIX IS IN for Lee DeWyze. We feel that we were right.

The interviews were split into two shows with the first hour airing Friday in America and delayed a day in Southeast Asia. The first hour King spent interviewing two Idols at a time with the exception being DiDi Benami who was last and the 10th place finisher. All of the Top 10 finalists who will tour this summer said they felt DeWyze or Bowersox was deserving of the title.

When King interviews Idol finalists he wears is fatherly hat and asks primarily softball questions. King then through a change-up when he asked, "What do you get for this (being on Idol)? You're adding to their (creator Simon Fuller & 19 Entertainment) bank account."

All of the Idols seemed a bit sunned and unprepared by the question. It became clear that they don't know (and rightfully so) the entertainment business and their worth. They're still starry-eyed and overwhelmed by just being on the show and having a chance to further their career. The bottom line is they are making Simon Fuller and his associates a lot of money.

It slowly came out that the Idols are now professional musicians and receive union wages. That answer indicates they are receiving scale which given the amount of money the show makes equates to peanuts for the Idols. Being on television they should also receive another union for performing on television.

When you factor into the money equation that Simon Cowell's reported $100 million yearly salary he makes more than Ronaldo, KaKa, David Beckham and Kobe Bryant. Yes we know life isn't fair.

There is no financial prize for the winner. DeWyze and Bowersox did receive a new Ford automobile as is the case every season for the top two finalists. The financial reward is minimal as the Idols are wide eyed and bushy tailed while being excited about being in the contest and going on tour this summer.

When King asked if they intended to record they replied that they were signed to 19 Entertainment and they handled their recording contract deals. It was revealed that the Idols do receive royalties from their I-Tunes downloads but they didn't know how much.

As we've noted in the past that Fuller and 19 Entertainment own the contestants and the Idol contest is really a platform for them to scout talent that usually results in they eventually own the Idols careers.

We've also been suspicious why certain contestants are so severely criticized and others supported by the judges. Some great talent is eliminated while others remain who have lesser talent. We theorize that the Idol powers that be pick and choose who they want to win and the talent that they have the best relationships with will win.

Our opinion is that American Idol is basically an incestuous television show created and controlled by Simon Fuller who is laughing all the way to the bank and fooling the viewing public who can't apply logic to the inflated numbers Idol gives for votes reported verses a fewer amount of viewers.

King also dug deep into what the Idols thoughts of Simon Cowell:

DeWyze said, "He was really a genuine person." Bowersox said, "Simon's great, he's honest." 17 year-old

Aaron Kelly said: "The way he puts things it sticks in your mind and you remember it."

Siobhan Magnus who was undeservingly verbally abused throughout the competition prior to her elimination at sixth place said while noting that she didn't know where Cowell's thoughts came from: "Simon's clever. He said I sounded like I was giving birth. He said more about my outfit than my singing."
