Video Beat EXTRA - AMERICAN IDOL'S ELIMINATED FOUR

James Loving - National Radio Text Service

They had several things in common and the results can be questioned which raises just that... a question. IS AMERICAN IDOL GIVING ACCURATE VOTER RESULTS or ARE THEY PICKING AND CHOOSING WHO THEY WANT TO GO THROUGH? - AMAZING RACE LOSING PACE - JOURNO… IT'S ON!!! - Recommended TV Listings

ARE IDOLS RESULTS AMERICA'S CHOICE OR NOT?

The votes are in and four more American Idol contestants have been eliminated making it the final 16. The four who were eliminated had a lot in common. All of those eliminated performed in either the second or sixth positions on their performance nights. All are minorities. The questions are does American Idol manipulate the votes? Are the results derived from American Idol viewer's votes or American Idol decision makers?

The Asian connection Korean/American John Park 21 was cut adrift. Park's elimination was not surprising was he was on the bubble and never reached the point of singing from his soul but focused on singing the song. His voice is OK but nothing special and would never have won the competition. There are others who have gone through who are not better than Park. He sang in the second position of the guy's performance night.

Haeley Vaughn 16 also sang in the second position. Her performance was weak as judge Kara DioGuardi pointed out the she needs about a year more to strengthen her instrument (voice). "It's like a muscle that you have to work out," DioGuardi said.

The very beautiful Michelle Delamor 22 was eliminated after being praised by DioGuardi on her performance night when the judge said, "My favorite performance of yours ever."

When Delamor was left the last standing with Didi Benami 23 host Ryan Seacrest asked DioGuardi who she thought would be eliminated and DioGuardi replied that after hearing the show back after complimenting Delamor that she changed her mind and thought that she sang sharp and would be eliminated. Delamor sang in the sixth position.

Also singing in the sixth spot was Jermaine Sellers 26 who easily has one of the best six voices on the show but turned off the judges by how he sang too much off the melody of the songs he chose. Sellers always had a retort and it was not received in a positive light.

After Sellers performance all of the judges gave him a negative critique. The church singer had and incredulous look on his face as if it was impossible for him with his voice to hear a negative opinion of his performance.

Sellers was dumbfounded that the judges kept criticizing his singing of doing to much with a song and requested for him to stay more with the melody. DoiGuardi accused him of doing too many tricks with his voice which was good that he could do that but not warranted for the competition. She urged him to just stay with the song's melody and to pull back some. Sellers then blurted out; "If I pull back anymore…" he was cut short apparently by Seacrest since when the singer made the remark the camera was focused on the judges and not Sellers.

He then asked the judges what song he should sing next week to which Cowell replied, "I don't think you'll be here next week."

"I know god," Sellers exclaimed.

The problem was that evidently god didn't vote or have enough votes. Apparently the American voting public agreed with Cowell thus Sellers will be singing in church and not competing in American Idol's final 16 or nevermore.

After being eliminated and prior to his departure on the elimination show Seacrest said to Sellers, "You're one of our most vocal contestants even when you're not singing. Do you think your mouth got you into a little trouble?" Sellers' closing remark was, "In god there is no failure."

Sellers self assurance and appraisal of his talent brought to mind a conversation I had with Thai/American singer TaTa Young's father/manager regarding her then reputation. Young's father replied, "Some people confuse confidence with arrogance."

Though we are a fan of Sellers voice he should heed Quincy Jones edict to the stars who sang on the Jones produced recording, We Are The World, LEAVE YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR.

AMAZING RACE LOSING PACE

It appears that the Amazing Race USA TV series has run its course as it has become dull. There are no outstanding personalities. The talent pool has been declining in the most recent seasons. This season ranks in the bottom three of lacking personality and energy. The worst season was when they raced ONLY in America.

In this series there are no electrifying personalities. The show has moved on to Argentina after the first two episodes were filmed in Chile.

For sports fans one interesting team is the father daughter team of Steve Smith 57 and daughter Allie 23. Smith was a coach on the 2008 World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies in America's Major League Baseball League (MLB). He has since been let go by the Phil's and is now with the Cleveland Indians. They finished 2nd in the last leg of the race.

JOURNO… IT'S ON!!!

An interesting show to watch is Journo on the Australia Network. It focuses on the day and the life of journalists. This past week they featured Luke Hunt who departed AFP after 14 years with the news service. Hunt was bored with his desk job and preferred to be out in the field covering stories and chose to become a freelance journalist.

Hunt is a for real, no bullshit type of guy. AFP transferred him to Hong Kong where he remained for four years before leaving the company. Oddly enough he left the pristine candy ass Hong Kong lifestyle and returned to the rough, tough and raw Cambodia. He has based himself in Phnom Penh where he was previously the bureau chief for AFP.

Each week a different journalist is features. This is a WORTH WATCH.
