POV 72 - TULSI GABBARD - A WOMAN OF SUBSTANCE

The presidential debate was a platform for CNN to promote their candidates of choice. Cory Booker has received the most news reports regarding his attack on former Vice President and now 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden regarding wanting to taste the Kool Aid in his neighborhood but he didn't know the flavor. Kamala Harris also received a major portion of the attention but was broadsided during the event by Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard regarding Harris' record as an attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 which jolted the event

GABBARD HAS THE RIGHT STUFF

When the dust settled following the recent presidential debate hosted by CNN it was embarrassing to hear the mentality of those running to be the leader of the United States. Former US Vice President Joe Biden was the target of many of the competitors' verbal attacks. The focus was the candidates attack while ignoring focusing on if they won what they would do for American citizens.

What stood out was how CNN asked more questions and gave more air time to the candidates that they want to assist. The other CNN approach was to try and make good television or controversial sensationalized programming. The telling point is the follow up and selected segments of the debate that they feature in their news reports.

Cory Booker received the most news reports regarding his attack on Biden regarding Kool Aid in his neighborhood and not being familiar with the taste. Kamala Harris also received a major portion of the attention but was broadsided during the event by Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard regarding Harris' record as an attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017.

Gabbard pointed out that Harris flip-flopped on decriminalizing marijuana. The congresswoman from Hawaii pointed out that Harris joked in a recent interview that she smoked weed in college, but the former attorney general also locked up over 1,000 people on marijuana citations.

"There are too many examples to cite, but she put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana," Gabbard said.

That was the most resounding moment of the debate but CNN and the viewing audience failed to get it. Unfortunately the American viewer is conditioned to seek entertainment and ignore sound thinking and information. Basically they are conditioned to ignore information of substance.

Gabbard's informative statement was the second time we've heard her say something riveting. While she is being largely ignored for the sake of entertainment her impactful comments warranted a question… WHO IS THIS WOMAN?

Being an a former military combat veteran and having served as the U.S. Representative for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district since 2013 she is familiar how the political system works. When she was elected to the Hawaii House of Representatives at age 21, Gabbard was the youngest woman to be elected to a U.S. state legislature. Her 16 years of political experience at the young age of 38 defies the norm. Her vast political experience and unemotional down to earth common sense is unrivaled with the current presidential candidates other then Biden.

Basically she is a 38-year-old woman of substance. While many politicians talk of invading nations TO PROTECT THEIR INTEREST the reality is the majority of them have never served in the military… Gabbard knows the results of illegal wars and invasions.

Gabbard served in a field medical unit of the Hawaii Army National Guard in a combat zone in Iraq from 2004 to 2005 and was deployed to Kuwait from 2008 to 2009. She has been there and done that. She knows what war resulting in deaths is like and how it impacts invaded nations citizens. Gabbard stands for something.

She is critical of interventionism in Iraq, Libya, and Syria. She supports abortion rights, Medicare for All, and same-sex marriage. Gabbard has described herself as both a hawk and a dove. Asked if there were any wars that justified the use of US military force, Gabbard said there are "very few examples" and cited World War II.

Gabbard first cam to our attention on a interview on You Tube with CNN's Wolf Blitzer As usual in the CNN tradition he was telling Gabbard what he he and politicians think of chemical attacks in Syria and who should be held responsible.

Gabbad was concise with her reply, "What I believe, what you believe, or others believe is irrelevant. What matters here is THE EVIDENCE and THE FACTS."

WHAT!!! An intelligent statement from an American politician! That was astounding and seldom heard as what was displayed during the presidential debates.

Gabbard isn't the silver lining answer to solve the US political dilemma. Other than Biden who stands out given his political INTERNATIONAL experience she is the best of the rest her mind and reasoning skills are sound. Her views on the Middle East plight have value.

Gabbard voted in favor of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, an agreement with Iran that imposed restraints on Iran's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of nuclear-related sanctions against Iran. She opposes the Trump administration's decision to withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and stated that as president she would reenter the agreement, but also negotiate on remaining issues in order to find a diplomatic solution and deescalate tensions.

In May 2019 Gabbard warned about the danger, costs, and consequences of a potential war with Iran and criticized the Trump administration for elevating tensions. She said it would be illegal for the Trump administration to rely on a 2001 law that authorized the use of U.S. Armed Forces against those responsible for the September 11 attacks and any "associated forces".

Gabbard considers the 2003 invasion of Iraq to have been a disaster in part because victorious withdrawal after removing Saddam Hussein from power was complicated by civil war. She also opposed the NATO-led military intervention in Libya in 2011 and has called for an end to the nearly two-decades-long U.S. war in Afghanistan.

Being so young she is the most impressive of the candidates. If she fails to win the presidential nomination she can relate to the reasons why and how the political machinery works.

If not now she represents the future of politicians in America that represent citizens of ethnic diversity. In a sense Gabbard is a woman of color and most likely has experienced racial prejudice in her life.

Her father is of Samoan and European ancestry and an active lector at his Catholic church. Her mother, who was born in Decatur, Indiana, is of German descent and a practicing Hindu. Gabbard chose Hinduism as her religion while she was a teenager. She is home-schooled through high school except for two years at a Christian missionary academy for girls in the Philippines.

Sound thinking, military experience and her ethnic diversity can only strengthen her political future. As she receives more media coverage most certainly will qualify her as someone that represents what the majority of Americans will be. She can be a positive force in bringing nations together and not tearing them apart.

The manner in which the media is burying her credentials and qualifications she could be the perfect Vice President to Biden should he win the nomination. That combination would be and interesting team and could represent those citizens who are currently ignored.
