THE WENDY WARS ARE OVER BEA WINS

She can't act, she can't dance and she can't sing but SHE WON! What she can do is try to get along with people well enough to make Redney King proud and that's what helped put her over the top to win the Pinoy Big Brother contest in the Philippines last night.

Maria Beatriz Saw (aka Bea) that's who we're talking about. From the start this 20-year-old who aspires to be a print model was a long shot to win the title but walked off with the crown, one million pesos (US $20,000), a house, car, water business and a trip for two to several cities throughout Europe.

Bea was not one of the original six to take residence is the BB house. When she arrived they described her past as hard working and she grew up separated from her parents. She didn't have a glamorous look that prompted Big Bro to request to the original three female housemates Gee-Ann, Wendy and Caisy to help her with her grooming. They did and life went on as they all got along.

Prior to her entrance on the show she described herself as being, "Friendly, cheerful, generous, smiling face" and a perfect housemate as being "A good listener, a true friend. Funny, a person with a happy disposition in life."

She also noted what turns her off, "Plastic and pretentious people."

All of those factors came into play and how she dealt with those issues by utilizing her positive persona helped put her over the top as she received a record 1,571,556 (30.29%) of the all-time Pinoy Big Brother record setting 5,284,014 votes cast.

Later the show added other housemates one of whom Bea was challenged by one... a female housemate. Bea was accused of trying to steal the new housemate's close male friend in the house.

It got so heated that they almost came to blows as the other housemate lost the plot in a fit of anger. "Act your age," Bea raged back after being confronted to the point where her back was to the wall and she had no other choice. Her response was in anger but what she was trying to accomplish was to bring the other girl to reality and stop the nonsense.

The result was the other girl was automatically evicted from the house for making threats to another housemate, which is in violation of the rules.

Bea's patience was challenged again when she and Gee-Ann got into a feud with Wendy that lasted for a week in what could be termed THE WENDY WARS.

Wendy wouldn't talk to Gee-Ann or Bea accusing them as plastic, back-stabbers and playing the game in a plot to oust her and win the contest. The cash prize became a subject of conversation.

During the war of words Wendy went ballistic for a week. The TV series stayed with the plot and continued to show the tension building in the half-hour televised segment of a 24-7 real life housemate situation.

Bea made the effort to communicate with Wendy and try to smooth over the situation. After a week of trying Wendy finally accepted her efforts and the started to talk to Bea. Bea then encouraged Gee-Ann to go to Wendy and try to work things out.

She did and during the final weeks of the show the program suddenly became the second THRILLA IN MANILA that surpassed the famous Joe Frazier vs. Muhammad Ali fight that took place there in the 70's.

The result being that Wendy lost fan appeal and slipped losing her seemingly overwhelming fan support. She was booed on the two elimination shows that followed where she barley made it to the final four.

These were the confrontations that seemed to put Bea over the top with the fans that helped her to win the title. She won because she made the supreme effort to communicate with others and tried to get along. She accomplished that and that is the primary reason why she is the Pinoy Big Brother Season 2 WINNER.

NOTES

This was the fourth Big Brother show televised on the ABS-CBN Network. The original Big Brother show attracted the then record of just over 1 million votes followed by the teen edition that received roughly 900,000 votes followed by the Celebrity Edition that gained just over 800,000 votes.

RESULTS

1st - Bea - 1,571,556 votes - (30.29%)

2nd - Mickey - 1,286,166 - (24.79%)

3rd - Wendy - 1,209,978 - (23.32%)

4th - Gee-Ann - 1,080,740 - (21.58%)

BRAINS OVER MATTER

Though she has come a long way in improving her appearance Bea is not a glamour girl as Wendy, Dionne, Saicy and Gee-Ann are. What she does excel in she stated on The Buzz show within 19 hours after winning the title, "patience is my virtue."

DOING IT RIGHT

There are problems with the way the ABS-CBN Network do things particularly not adhering to a programming schedule. Their strength is developing talent, putting them to work ASAP after they've been involved in a reality show and in the process building their self-esteem.

Those that don't win appear on other shows and projects within hours. They don't have time to think about losing and feel let down and that's a good thing. The contestants aren't trashed, they are utilized and kept involved.

Within 14 hours of the Big Bro Final's at the Araneta Arena last night (Saturday, June 30) that finished at 11:50PM Thailand/Cambodia time all of the Big Four Finalists and everyone that appeared on the show this season appeared on ASAP the networks variety show the following day (Sunday July 1) at 12:40PM.

Saicy, one of the shows favorites and Dionne were featured in dance routines.

Since being evicted both have appeared on several ABS-CBN TV shows. Dionne also landed a role in a TV soap within two weeks of her eviction while Saicy has appeared as a featured dancer on ASAP and WOW WOW WEE one of the networks top rated programs. She is also set to be featured in a new dance program.

LOVE NEST:

The ABS-CBN Network love to develop relationships between their contestants on reality shows much like the old Hollywood system did in the pre-sixties days such as Rock Hudson and Doris Day and many other actors who were paired for image and publicity reasons.

Big Brother himself set up the relationship they contrived with Big Bro's Wendy and Bruce as he had them go on a drive-inn blind date that was set up in the backyard of the Big Bro house. They eventually did start caring for each other as Bruce went into HOT PURSUIT….BUT… here's the drill…. He also had a secret girlfriend outside the house.

Wendy is a good singer as she displayed while singing solo on the Big Bro show. She and Bruce were involved in a duo-singing segment on today's ASAP program and they were excellent.

Bruce never sang solo on the Big Bro show before but he CAN SING and they blend well together. WATCH OUT FOR THIS DYNAMIC DUO TO EXPLODE WITH AN ALBUM…IT'S A NO BRAINER.

HOT STUFF

In the past the network had teamed up Big Bro Teen winner Kim Chui with American/Filipino teen contestant Gerald Anderson and they are a hot item in Pinoy land (The Philippines).

Other match-ups have been the Big Bro show host Tony Gonzaga and American/Filipino Sam Milby a contestant on the first Pinoy Big Brother last year. That relationship has since gone through the chill factor but Milby is now considered a entertainment star in the Philippines as an actor, model and singer.

On this Big Bro edition several relationships have developed with Gee-Ann being involved in a triangle with 1st runner-up Mickey and 5th place finisher and former child TV star Bodie. Robert is pursuing Saicy and they have been featured in dance routines on ASAP.

If there is one major thing that the ABS-CBN Network does well it is their skill to stir up interest in their talent. STAY TUNED….

IT'S ON !!!

THE APPRENTICE

In the It's On category, Donald Trumps Apprentice is one that shows Asian youth can learn what it takes to be involved in top level business in the USA.

One could argue that it's unrealistic for Asian youth to aspire to that. The point being is that The Apprentice program is a better influence than rap music depicting violence and women as ho's (whores)? It's a matter of choice and what one chooses to do with their time and influences.

The current Apprentice series was televised last summer on Malaysia's TV 3. This is the worst of the bunch due to a poor cast. In television they say that after the script CASTING IS EVERYTHING.
