Video Beat EXTRA Part 3 - AMERICAN IDOLS TOP 6 REVIEW

James Loving - National Radio Text Service

When Pia Toscano was eliminated the bloom fell off American Idols rose. What remains is a talented Top 6 who are good but the program is not as interesting and the judges are showing their warts in the error of their ways and decisions. We rate the Top 6 according to their performances and selections to the Bottom 3 - Recommended TV Listings

WHO'S THE BEST? WE RATE YOU DO THE REST

With the money that American Idol generates it doesn't make sense why voting problems continue season after season. Where we come from no sense is NONSENSE. This season Idol has been changing the rules as they go along after they saved Casey Abrams in the 11th position. To cover their tracks they forecast a problem thus 11 of the Top 13 contestants will go on their summer tour that was designed for 10 performers.

With the save used up the elimination of Pia Toscano in the ninth spot revealed the warts in the judges decision to save Abrams. As we asked what would they do when someone with a better voice than Abrams is in a position of being voted off the show because they wasted their save TOO EARLY. The answer is the judges were in shock with some holding their heads in disbelief. The damage is done but the judges continue to circle their wagons to protect their error b y continually endorsing Abrams as being worthy of their poor decision.

Since Toscano departed the show has been less interesting. The judges failing to take responsibility for their mistake took the substance out of a program that was designed to find the best SINGER in the competition. They are now waving the flag that they are looking for the best entertainer. Ironically Abrams is the most talented in the bunch being an excellent musician, OK singer and the potential to be a successful comedic actor. The bottom line is he is in the top 6 and Toscano isn't.

THE TOP 6

From the group that remains Lauren Alaina, James Durbin and Scott McCreery are the only three of the remaining contestants that haven't been in the Bottom 3. Casey Abrams who was saved in the 11th position is assuming the role of the teachers pet given the amount of praise and extra promotion air time. The others have been somewhat taking a back seat to all of the attention given to Abrams. As it stands with Idol having contests in Asia for the viewing public to enter a contest as to who will be in the Top 4 if Idol has their way Abrams will join the three that have not been in the bottom 3 Alaina, Durbin and McCreery.

In alphabetical order and Bottom 3 selections we will rate the Top 6.

Bottom 3 Selections
Review
1.
Lauren Alaina
0
A super talented 16-year-old singer who has the potential to win it. She has had strong performances throughout the competition. The judges keep telling her that she needs to gain confidence. Alaina is gaining strength week after week.
2.
James Durbin
0
The 23-year-old vocalist has made the greatest improvement since the competition began. Last week his performance of Uprising by Muse was his best performance yet and one of the best overall this season. Rock is his strength. He looks and sings the part. At this point he is our choice to win the title. His overcoming Tourette and Asperger's syndrome adds to his drive to be in it to win it.
3.
Scott McCreery
0
This deep voiced 17-year-old country singer has been the most consistent. He has the voice and talent to be a recording star right now if given the right producer and material. His weakness is performance as he tends to be visually boring. The good news is that is OK in the country market.
4.
Casey Abrams
1
We love this guy but we continue to feel that he was given a chance that denied better singers to progress. He's the most overall talented but doesn't possess a strong or distinctive voice. The 21-year-old multi talent has charmed the judges with his pleasant comedic personality and that has taken him a long way. He suffers from ulcerative colitis which resulted in him missing the Top 13 result show.
5.
Jacob Lusk
2

Surprisingly in the Bottom 3 two of the past three weeks. Of the remaining 6 he and McCreery have the best quality voices. He appears to be set up to fail as his earphone that keeps him in time with the music was shut off last week leading to our sabotage theory. Prior to last week's performance there was a report on the web that an American Idol Show insider said that Lusk wouldn't win. That raises the suspicion that the show is fixed. If the voters truly are making the decisions then how could someone make such a statement?

Recent comments by the judges indicate that he is being put in his place as he has a tendency to be egotistical and insecure. At the shows end when the contestants come together to hug each other they have often ignored the 23-year-old vocalist. Something is very strange about how he is being treated. The result is he has been losing confidence and seems uncomfortable and unsure of himself. Of the 5 minorities in the Top 13 he is the only one that has survived.

6.
Haley Reinhart
4
The 20-year-old vocalist has been the most frequent guest of the Bottom 3 but she has recovered and fought her way to the Top 6. Her voice is good but not exceptional. She has an interesting sexy but wholesome quality about her. This could be her or Lusk's last week on the program.
