More Red Flags

The Pinoy Dream (Nightmare) Academy is supposed to be about developing talent not driving people crazy and sending them to the insane asylum. Their record now stands at three victims leaving the show due to stress. The apparent seeds to this insanity are a pair of rich 18-year-old spoiled brats who are from influential families.

Bea was one of the most vocal critiques of Laarni who is a victim of child abuse and left home at the age of 15 to try and work her way through college to become somebody and then return to her home to help her family out of poverty. Her vehicle is her voice. Her past tragedies have rendered her insecure and vulnerable and subject to verbal abuse from some very nasty privileged individuals without her having a parental support system.

Bea was eliminated by the voting public via SMS after it was finally recognized that she doesn't posses a quality voice that Laarni does. Laarni's voice though raw and requiring training she has the superior vocal instrument of all the contestants. It appears Laarni's talent and her background of poverty provided the blood to quench the thirst of her attackers. Bea's presence on the show was a red flag from the beginning. There were more gifted singers (but not as pretty) who auditioned for the program who were turned down.

Another red flag jumped up when the DA website noted that Inaki is from a well known Filipino entertainment family.

The website notes of Inaki: Nephew of Juan Miguel Salvador, of the famous and well-respected Salvador clan, Iñaki took to the theater at age six like it was his playground. The stage was where he spent most of his summer days, performing with professional theater actors we could only admire from the audience booth. Iñaki prefers to make it on his own through his innate talent rather than flaunt the famous name that he carries. That he has won lead roles by auditioning alongside other actors is an achievement that speaks of his talent.

Those statements could be considered cheerleading. The nepotism and favoritism question rears its ugly head again in this case. In the United States legitimate shows practice a policy that no person involved with the network or program is involved in any way with the contestants via family or relationships.

That red flag jumped out during last weeks performance show when Bea sang and the vicious judge Gerard Salonga made the comment, "Your cousin is going to be mad at me." That raised the question of favoritism and nepotism and who is her cousin? Why is she on a show with a judge who is friendly with her family?

The point is that the Philippines entertainment industry is a two horse entity. Either you work for and are owned by ABS-CBN or their detested rival GMA Network . If a Philippine talent isn't liked or don't suck up to one of these companies they are SOL (S#!t Out of Luck).

Since Bea's departure Laarni is smiling and is having a better time. But…. believe it or not that got her into more trouble when a teacher asked her to act out being sad or angry. She said she couldn't do it because she was so happy. He then kicked her out of the class. And so it goes. Whatever Laarni does she can't win... everyone's on her case.

Though she has white skin by Asians standards it's as if she's been the designated house nigger and all she wants to do is SING. Given her well known troubled life you would think the mentors would support her more and build her strength and raise her self esteem. They have chosen to chime in with Inaki and Bea and beat her up thus making her personal problems worse and doing nothing for her talent. It's as if she's supposed to eat $#!t and die or enjoy it. Given those options who wouldn't rebel or be upset particularly a person who has a background of pain and suffering.

The mentors know what's wrong with her so why don't they help build her strengths? Why tear her down by chopping away at her weaknesses? It's like they are applying the theory of tearing someone down before building them up. All students are different and a talented teacher should be able to recognize that and use an approach that will inspire people to learn and excel.

As teachers the mentors seem to lack the skill of how to nurture individuals. The show is too much about what's wrong with Laarni rather than WHAT'S RIGHT and embellish on that. OR..... unless this show is fixed.

Next week: Her husband left the show due to stress now Bunny is suffering from hypertension. Could she be the fourth victim to leave the show due to stress? Is Inaki given favoritism?

The show is televised in the TFC (The Filipino Channel) on the ABS-CBN Network

CNN'S - DANGEROUS GROUND - Australian born Muslims being abused and being prejudiced.

An interesting report and story has been airing on two cable networks CNN and the Australian Network. The subject is the same about Australian born Muslims being abused and prejudiced. The CNN version is a half hour under the banner of The Worlds Untold Stories titled Dangerous Ground. The Australian version is 45 minutes under the 4 Corners program.

The footage is the same but of course the Australian version is more in depth given the extra time thus depriving the editors of cutting out valuable footage. The program points out that of Australia's 20 million population 1.5% are Muslim (300,000) with 40% (120,000) of those born in Australia.

"We don't want them want them," said one female Australian. They're taking this (Australia) away from us."

Obviously this woman doesn't know Australia's history that it was the English who stole the country away from the indigenous people. They then raped their women and children, enslaved and taxed them and stole their treasures. That's another story but her point of view is inappropriate.

A Muslim point of view is noted on the program when a young Muslim said that good Muslims do NOT use vulgar language, gamble, drink, smoke, hurt anyone and they pray five times a day.

Anyone who knows an Australian is aware that many pride themselves on smoking, drinking and using vulgar language. That was obvious in the documentary as the camera caught images of all mentioned except gambling. For sure non Muslim Australians do not pray five times a day.

An expert on the program noted that the process to a violent reaction by Muslims to their abusive racist treatment by Australians is a three step process.

1. They feel alienated from society

2. Disengage and associate with like minds.

3. Violence rebel from scrutiny and frustration.

The program sheds light on the Cournella riots in the Camden section of Sydney. "Get the fuck out of here mate," one ignorant and apparently drunk young Australian individual said to a young Muslim boy. Another Australian female vehemently said, "Muslims don't fit into this town."

The young Muslims formed a youth center with a gymnasium to learn boxing with the hope of one day fighting in world competition for their country (Australia). Their efforts were not appreciated as they were denied a permit to operate by a local council. The council did approve an expansion of a brothel.

A young Muslim man expressively noted that, "We're not going around bombing your places and raping your women.."

The program may be rerun on both networks but it can be viewed on the Internet on the Australian Network 4 Corners link. It's also available on:

CNN Dangerous Ground

Relations between Australia's Muslim community and the rest of the population are near to exploding. As they face increasing suspicion and hostility from the rest of the nation, young Australian Muslims are being made to feel like foreigners in their own countries. Is Australia's response to terrorism to blame?

The Bloom Fell Off The Freshie Rose

What happened to a contest for teens that did not live up to it's former standards when these words were spoken: "Our society now has a bad problem with drugs and domestic violence. In order to solve these problems you have to start with the family but sometimes they don't understand. That's where we come in. It's not going to solve the problems of the world but at least we started something. We teach being a good teen at home by being a good son or daughter. At school (we teach) being a good student, in society to be a good friend. This is the concept we teach." COMING - The Bloom Fell Off The Rose
