THE VIEWERS CHOICE

The season 10 edition of American Idol is the best that we've ever seen and for once they told the truth that the program had its best talent ever. The climax finale with Scott McCreery''s narrowly defeating Lauren Alaina is what made it special as both are still high school students blessed with super talent and raised by their parents to have poise and self confidence.

The program also got it right in changing the judges with the addition of Jennifer Lopez and 63-year-old Stephen Tyler. Tyler was the biggest surprise as after abusing his body with drugs throughout his career. On Idol he was vibrant and credible in adding a comedic color to the show. It's a stark contrast to previous seasons when after an Idol show a viewer is angered by Simon Cowell's unpleasant behavior and verbal ridicule of the contestants. This was a refreshing season of building up and not tearing down.

The years major shocker was a tie with the judges saving Casey Abrams in the Top 11 thus putting in jeopardy another contestant with a better voice that had to be eliminated since the save was all used up on Abrams. That came about during the Top 9 when Pia Toscano felt the guillotine resulting in the season 2nd biggest shocker. She had the voice to win it all. Up to that time she had never been in the Bottom 3. This was the judge's biggest mistake as their being enamored with Abrams' charming personality should not have been a factor as the program was originally designed to find the best VOICE in the competition not the best all-around talent for which Abrams is qualified.

At the Top 6 position we gave our opinions of the remaining talent. We got it right in stating the McCreery had the talent to win it all. We also selected McCreery as having one of the three best voices in the competition early on in the contest along with Thia Megia and Jacob Lusk. McCreery won but Megia went out in the double elimination 11th-10th position as a result of Abrams save the previous week. The pressure of the competition got the best of the 16-year-old Megia who entered the contest at 15 along with Alaina the two youngest ever to do so.

Lusk suffered from a mixture of insecurity, arrogance and not knowing who he was as a vocalist. He listened to the judge's suggestions and that confused him. He tried to please but tried too much and lost his center of his true talent in trying too many vocal tricks and going away from the melody. Lusk made it to the 5th position.

We also created a chart of the Top 4 finalists where we selected in order our choices who would win and their final finish. We felt that the Idol fans would vote for rocker James Durbin to win and we were wrong. WE WERE RIGHT with our own NR selections for McCreery to win and Alaina to finish 2nd. Our third place finisher was Durbin and with Haley Rienhart to finish fourth. The results were in reverse.

The Idols are now embarking on their professional careers with their summer tour. It will be interesting to see who emerge in having successful professional careers. Our choices are McCreery, Alaina. Toscano and Abrams. Don't be surprised to see Abrams in film and TV series in the Seth Rogen vein. The bottom line is Idol Season 10 has produced their best talent ever.

The following are the NR readers Top 10 American Idol stories. There are some surprises.

4
TV - VIDEO BEAT EXTRA EXTRA Part 1 - ROCKER JAMES DURBIN VOTED OFF AMERICAN IDOL - May, 2011
DID CLASH'S WITH IOVINE MAKE A DIFFERENCE? - Until this past week's show Durbin and Scott McCreery were the only two that were never voted into the bottom 3 or 2 - Two things stand out about Durbin's fall from grace one being Idol's in-house mentor Jimmy Iovine and Durbin often clashed on song choices - Recommended TV Listings

7
TV - VIDEO BEAT EXTRA Part 2 - AMERICAN IDOLS VOTING IRREGULARITIES & DECEPTION - April, 2011

TV - VIDEO BEAT EXTRA EXTRA - CASEY ABRAMS SAVED ON AMERICAN IDOL - March, 2011
Pia Toscano has been the most consistent, strong performer up till now can't be saved and that would be a major tragedy. Her voice is light years ahead of Abrams whom we are a big fan of. Next week two contestants will be eliminated. The question is did the judges use their save TOO EARLY?
- Recommended TV Listings
9
TV - VIDEO BEAT - AMERICAN IDOLS CASEY ABRAMS SHOT DOWN BUT NOT OUT - May, 2011
HE'S ON HIS WAY - Without a doubt Casey Abrams is the most talented MUSICIAN ever on American Idol. He received the least amount of votes for the second time last week and is off the show. The good news is he is well prepared to possibly have one of the most successful careers in the entertainment business than any Idol contestant ever. Abrams is schooled and prepared - Recommended TV Listings
