CHRISTIAN ALVEAR CUT FROM DREAM ACADEMY - INAKI KNOCKS OFF ANOTHER STUDENT

In what we consider a questionable move Christian Alvear 25, also known as the Small Boy Wonder was expelled from the Pinoy Dream Academy after losing by SMS vote 43.99% to Inaki 56.01%. Inaki is a person who has connections and much less talent and quality of voice than Christian.

Christian was one of the top three singers early in the series just three weeks earlier July 5th. Inaki has never achieved that status. Being only 4'10" Christian has a voice reminiscent to a young Michael Jackson. His ouster raises the question how could he fall from grace so rapidly.

Christian and Inaki were on probation after being in the bottom four the previous week when Bunny scored 6.03, Miguel 6.27, Christian 6.30 and Inaki 6.33 GPA's. The mentors saved Miguel. Bunny was saved by the students vote by receiving 4 votes to Christian's 3 and Inaki's 1. Miguel was the only student to cast a vote for Inaki. With Christian and Inaki being the bottom two it set up viewer voting to decide who remained in the contest via SMS voting.

Then came the twist, the mentors paired Christian and Inaki to sing a duet together on last Saturday's performance, the night it would be named who would be eliminated. During the performance night Christian sang a solo song "Shout For Joy" and judge Ocampo said "You moved me." He then sang a duet in the Philippine language with Inaki. Throughout the week they had a tough time rehearsing and harmonizing. Given Inaki's negative history it wasn't difficult to understand Christian's problem. Inaki was largely responsible in Christian's friends Jet and Ross quitting the Academy.

During their performance Christian sang better than Inaki but was off on some notes. His nervousness showed. Judge Verni Varga commented, "Notes not exactico (exact). At the end of the show the weeks SMS voting tally was announced and Christian was eliminated.

Though he received only one vote for survival to Christian's three Inaki managed to dodge the bullet. In part he was given better TV coverage when co-host Billy Crawford did man on the street interviews with viewers asking them who they wanted to remain on the show. By a close margin most mentioned Inaki's name. The editing room or video cutting room floor could have footage of many of those interviewed who wanted Christian to remain and that's one way a network can influence and control the results of the program.

After entering the Academy Christian was told by mentor performance teacher Juan Javier Reyes aka Derek Joey that he didn't want him in the contest from the beginning. Christian was a low profile student who didn't create problems as did Inaki who fashioned a cut throat backstabbing environment by talking behind Laarni's back and other students thus dividing a 18-year-old faction against some of the over 18's. This negative atmosphere resulted in three over 18's leaving the program due to stress including two of Christian's friends.

Judges continually gave Inaki credit for his performance skills while ignoring and never mentioning the fact that he has a terrible voice and is the worst singer of the 16 who were in the contest. Christian was a person who supported his team and was a positive influence in the Academy. Why Inaki was accepted on the show to begin with didn't make sense and where I come from no sense is nonsense. So we checked on his background and found this very positive information on the DA website. The inference is that of cheerleading and Inaki is from an influential family. The information reads.

Nephew of Juan Miguel Salvador, of the famous and well-respected Salvador clan, Iñaki took to the theater at age six like it was his playground. The stage was where he spent most of his summer days, performing with professional theater actors we could only admire from the audience booth. Iñaki prefers to make it on his own through his innate talent rather than flaunt the famous name that he carries. That he has won lead roles by auditioning alongside other actors is an achievement that speaks of his talent.

This program continues to peak our interest and raises the question if this is a talent contest or a soap opera spiced up with people who lack talent but create controversy to stimulate viewers interested in dirt and conflict.

The stress of being on the show continues as Bunny 22, is suffering from hypertension. Her husband Chivas 22 also suffered from hypertension while on the program and had to be hospitalized during the first week. When he returned to the house he was expelled before he had a chance to compete in the competition during that first talent night though he made a guest appearance. He was expelled that week for the sake of protecting his health. Will his wife be the next stress victim to leave this nightmare of a reality program?

NOTE:

Of the 16 contestants that stared the show six were 18-years of age. As Inaki and Bea led 18's in their backstabbing revolt against some of the over 18's the tally now reads of the 10 original contestants remaining five are 18-years of age. Five over 18's have departed with three due to stress and two Ross 25 and Jet 25 of the voluntarily quitting the show and two Sheng 25 and Christian 25 were voted off the program. Of the 10 five are 18 Inaki, Miguel, Bugoy, Apple and Van and five over 18 Bunny 22, Liezel 23, Laarni 23, Chris 22, and Sen 25. Bea is the only 18-year-old to be voted off the show.

There are five girls and five boys remaining in the competition. In the first Dream Academy they chose six finalists with three girls and three boys. Their talent appeared to have nothing to do with their choices but a matter of having a balance of girls and boys in the finals.

Rayan Cayabyab the headmaster of the program previously was a judge on the Philippine Idol on another network. He later commented on the success of some of those contestants was a result of the determination and deep pockets of their supporters. This was supported on a report published by the Manila Bulletin about contestants who "buy their way to the top".
