The stage was set to make for American Idol judges and in house mentor Jimmy Iovine to make good decisions of songs for Phillips Phillips and make mistakes in choosing material for Jessica Sanchez and now eliminated Joshua Ledet. The question is were the mistakes a plan to eliminate Ledet to send Phillips through to the final? As Jennifer Lopez said on a previous show, "I WANT YOU TO WIN PHILLIP!" - Recommended TV Listings

IS THE FIX IN FOR PHILLIP PHILLIPS TO WIN?

Well the powers that be (PTB) got what they wanted as Joshua Ledet bit the dust and was tricked out of the final. That permitted Jennifer Lopez's heart throb contestant Phillip Phillips to compete against 16-year-old singing sensation Jessica Sanchez in the final this week that will be televised a day earlier (Tuesday & Wednesday in the USA and Wednesday and Thursday in Asia). But viewers beware the decision appears to have been made that Phillips will win the title defined by Jennifer Lopez blurting out after her critique; "I WANT YOU TO WIN PHILLIP!"

The over the top manner in which the Idol show is promoting Phillips while shoving others aside with snide remarks and a smile has become annoying and suspicious.

Throughout the history of the show only Casey Abrams has been given so much attention during a season. In Asia the television promotions of the show coming from Hong Kong this week has the image of Phillips with sound bite of judge Randy Jackson promoting Idol's Georgia peach Phillips by stating, "You are who you are and WE LOVE IT."

That is followed by Phillips on camera saying, "I want it so bad." It's as if Sanchez and Ledet who was eliminated last week doesn't matter or exist as they are only minorities undeserving of respect with equal and fair treatment. It reflects the Rosa Parks get to the back of the bus treatment given to Rosa Parks who was fighting to eliminate segregation during the 1950's in the US southern state of Alabama.

This unfair bias would be illegal if it were a US presidential race where equal time is required for all candidates. The problem is fairness and an equal amount of promotion time for all the remaining contestants is not on American Idol's agenda since it all about promoting Phillips.... TO WIN. THE QUESTION IS WHY?

Both Ledet and Sanchez were set up in last weeks Top 3 competition. In house mentor Jimmy Iovine admitted that he chose the wrong song "I'll Be There" by the Jackson 5 for Sanchez and that mistake could cost her. He then said he took full responsibility for selecting the wrong song "No More Drama" by Mary J. Blige for Ledet. The damage was done so now that the destruction plan worked he apologizes. Go figure.

He also noted that if she got to the finale, "It's about the songs," in noting how important the selection of material is. In a stealth like way he set them, up to put them down and one out which turned out to be Ledet.

Ledet is forgiving being the son of a preacher man and when asked by host Ryan Seacrest about iovine's comment regarding his making a mistake Ledet sheepishly said he believes in Jimmy and that he's been in the business a long time.

If anything this is Ledet's first GIANT STEP in learning about how the music business works and the numerous disingenuous individuals that corrupt the industry he will repeatedly encounter. This is not to say or imply that iovine falls into this category but the music business in many ways is a field of landmines of disappointments that can explode at any time.

It brings to mind when Artie Mogul the then president of United Artists Records said to a Entertainment Business class at Sherwood Oaks College in Hollywood, California after a student complained about a shady deal he experienced Mogul replied, "If it's integrity you're looking for YOU'RE IN THE WRONG BUSINESS."

Sanchez's performance of the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There" drew criticism from Jackson. In the past he has been complimentary and has been unfairly criticizing her in an offhanded manner all season. For the Jackson 5 song he said he would have preferred her to do the Mariah Carey version of the tune.

The problem with that negative statement is Iovine sent her the Michael Jackson version with Jermaine Jackson singing the low part of a TWO PART song.

Opps! According to Iovine he didn't take that into consideration beforehand. Weather the mistake was intentional or not remains a question but his performance with the 16-year-old lady and Ledet was consistent… HE MADE MISTAKES…. INTENTIONAL OR NOT.

In the past Jackson has made negative comments about how Sanchez dressed too old since she's only 16. After dropping that negative bomb into the public's ear he failed to explain that she doesn't have anything to do with what clothes she wears and that is the job of the show's wardrobe department. The damage was done and he continued on searching for chinks in her amour with other negative comments about her in the final 3 performance show as did Iovine.

More of the double standard came into play as throughout the season they repeatedly applaud Phillips performance even though he doesn't sing the melody as they would prefer and request and he can't sing high notes. He negatively critiqued Sanchez singing mostly the low parts of a song she sang with Hollie Cavanagh saying that she has such a big voice that she should have sung more high parts. What he failed to explain is that Sanchez is NOT RESPONSIBLE for the arrangement which is why they have coaches and other staff to do that job.

Rather than give him negative critiques as they all too often did with Hollie Cavanagh they support Phillips shortcomings by saying how they admire him for being who he is and defend his defiance of NOT singing the melody as him being himself and sticking to his guns.

If its bullshit you're looking for then tune in to American Idol as they spew out enough each week to cover the United States of America.

The red flags were raised to their highest level when Iovine made sure he was spot on with the decisions he made for Phillips in choosing Bob Seger's "We've Got Tonight."

On the results Iovine he beamed with pride when he proclaimed that Phillip's won the night with that song and it was his best performance of the season. He was proud of doing his job and the right thing for Phillips but there was a lack of effort in his decision making for Ledet and Sanchez.

Iovine had the Phillips best performance of the season statement right but his over the top exclamation that it was the best performance of the night is up to ones opinion and a matter of taste.

It was by far Phillips best performance of the season and the only song that he ever sang THIS SEASON that was enjoyable to listen to. The link here is that Iovine has a background working with hard rock bands and not top flight quality vocalists like Sanchez. Her talent is out of his depth.

The judges did their part in the double standard practice when Lopez chose a standard NEVER DO WARNINGS to contestants not to sing a Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston or an old song that the public can't identify with. She chose a Mariah Carey song "My All" because it was a hard song to sing and she wanted to put Sanchez to the test and make her jump through some hoops.

Sanchez sang the song well and was complimented for it but before the critique was over Lopez threw in an off handed remark by pointing out that there was a high part in the song that Sanchez didn't go for (sing). After throwing that out for the public to digest she said but you did it your way. Lopez didn't express the your way statement in the over the top excited manner in which she compliments Phillips. This was an intentional affront to Sanchez but... with a smile.

As we mentioned in our previous column the judges set up Ledet with a song done almost 60 years ago before anyone involved with Idol behind the scenes or on camera was born. Ledet sang it well but he went down with a bad song choice for him against good songs choices for Phillips. His other problem is that he is not Idol's flavor of the month nor is Sanchez.

The table is set and it's the Philippine/Mexican minority female against the shows Great White Hope from the peach state of Georgia Phillip Phillips. It's a no brainer given the continued promotion of Phillips and unwarranted praise the judges and Iovine gave him all season the he will win the competition and be the worst winning talent of all time in the shows history topping Kris Allen's win over Adam Lambert
