THE ASIAN RACE TO THE TOP

If the saying what goes around comes around holds true it most certainly is applicable for this months NR Top 10. Our Phnom Penh columns took the top three spots. The number one column titled Freshie Contest Muddle also rated number one in our Phnom Penh Top 3 stories for this month.

Additionally there was a heavy focus on our coverage of television programs in the Philippines. In large part our report on the mysterious Filipino concert that was advertised to be held in Phnom Penh during the middle of the Khmer New Year when the city is like a ghost town as residents flee the metropolis to return to their provinces to celebrate with their families but never happened made some noise.

Another surprise was the reappearance of Dr. Beat Richner. Our coverage regarding an Australian produced television documentary about his work and background notched the third spot in a Phnom Penh column. The feature we published in 2002 also returned to the charts taking the tenth position. That story is one of our all time leaders and held the number one spot for almost two years.

Sports Notes secured two places with # 5 featuring David Beckham and Jose Mourinho and the 6th position featuring Racist Radio 10 Years After. Racist Radio is a feature about the lack of respect and integrity of some so called journalists.

An American sports talk radio host created a hoax by having a caller pretend to be someone he wasn't. The host and caller attacked Hideo Nomo then the Los Angels Dodger pitcher who is of Japanese heritage. The caller pretended to be a personal friend of Rupert Murdoch who was the then owner of the team. He said that Murdoch wasn't happy about Nomo's lack of English language skills.

We uploaded the story and within hours were in the press box at Dodger Stadium with the low life sports talk host. The tension was so think that you could walk on it but he did not challenge our position on the matter. Simon Cowell we're not but keeping it real and having respect for others and telling the truth is in our view is compulsory.

Our television coverage in our Video Beat columns took four positions numbers 4, 7, 8 and 9. The majority of the interest was in Filipino programming and their reality shows. American Idol judge Simon (Holy) Cowell also caused a stir in being featured in the Video Beat which took the ninth spot.

One story of particular interest for Asian readers is about America's Next Top Model's first Asian decent contestant Sheena Sakai who was eliminated after fining in sixth place (go girl). That story took the ninth position.

Also in that column was the Australian Top Model competition where a feature titled Bullied Model Becomes Best Ever Australia Top Model regarding a model who made a racist remark that when asked what made her better than the model she was standing next to, the olive complexioned Samantha Downie. One of the racist model's five reasons she gave was because she was whiter. The dark complexion model Samantha was the fans overall choice as Australia's Top Model.

Though it did not make the Top 10 our most recent fast moving column was from March 25th covering our selections for American Idol's best talent this season. There was also a strong interest in an old BIZ WHO IS column regarding the management company 19 Entertainment which was founded by Simon Fuller the creator of American idol.

SECTIONS MOST VISITED

In our sections most visited Cambodian Sports and BIZ WHO IS held on their first and second positions respectively. Largely due to photo changes the Cambodian section moved up a notch and the NFL leaped three positions.

After several months off the charts the Boxing section returned in taking seventh place. The Los Angeles basketball team moved up one spot to eighth place. Our Entertainment section from 2007 moved up on spot on the charts at # 9. Quite frankly we have no idea what it is about that section that draws readers to it. Also for our missing for a while file is our television review section Video Beat which surged to the 10th position.

Of note is our section on former NBA bad boy turned actor Dennis Rodman who strangely enough many of his Asian fans weren't aware that Rodman had a career as a professional basketball player. How's that for a GO FIGURE?

Another surprise is our columns in the French language of our coverage of the NBA for the French magazine Maxi Basket with interviews from NBA grates Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Rodman, Hakeen Olajuwon, Charles Barkley and many others leaped to the 11th position.

ARCHIVES

For our Archives section we are adding stories that come to Cambodia and DO make a difference in helping the poor and needy as opposed to using the problems of the underprivileged to raise money and siphon off most the donations for large salaries and live a lavish colonialist type life style. Many party hearty as if they are extending or reliving their spring break. They are using the plight of the needy to serve their own needs and greed.

In Mith Sam Lanh and DDD (Digital Divide Data) you can see the results as they train people to have skills, give them jobs in helping them to their feet and have self esteem. Being that they are a commendable NGO's we are adding those stories this month.
