Human Interest stories stand out. YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE

Something's burning up the NR Top 10 charts as there is a shakeup and focus in this month's ratings. Our review on the first all girl rock band The Runaways scorched the charts rocketing to the # 1 position within 24 hours of publication making it our fastest riser. We took our sample on Monday the 23rd after the column was published on Sunday the 22nd.

The focus was a film made about the band that aired this past week on HBO. The Runaway interest coincides with the date the film first aired thus due to that the search was on by those interested in the group.

Interest took a serious turn as two of our reviews on the abuse of children and the human trafficking trade in Cambodia bolted up the charts. The documentary The Girls of Phnom Penh reigned in the 2nd spot while part 1 of that two part series The Virginity Trade notched the 7th spot.

Overall four television reviews made the charts while three Phnom Penh columns made the charts. Two of those columns were reviews of those film documentaries previously mentioned. The one Phnom Penh column that was not a documentary review on the sex trade is our column about the mysterious goings on with the Sabay contest.

The contest is intended to be the Grammy Awards of Cambodia. After all of the hype and circumstance it has become mysterious as they have failed to deliver on their promises and have missed deadlines. The numbers that they revealed to us about how many hits their web site receives raises some serious questions about the integrity of those involved. That column took the 5th position.

The 3rd and 4th spots on the charts were television reviews. The 3rd spot was taken in a column about our old nemesis Piers Morgan. In the past we blasted Morgan and Simon Cowell who tout themselves as being supreme Englishmen.

The twist to this column is after lambasting them over the years this was a complimentary piece about Morgan doing a thoroughly professional interview of singer Tony Bennett. Morgan didn't interrupt and talk over Bennett and permitted his guest to tell his story. It was amazing and something we thought we would never see... an intelligent Piers Morgan interview giving his guest respect without interrupting him. It was one of those let us bow our heads and pray moments. We're still in shock.

The Amazing Race took the 4th spot regarding two contestants that won the Survivor reality show being eliminated early in this series. They are currently dating but one of the contestants Ethan Zohn has been battling with cancer since he won the Survivor competition which is a grueling physical endurance and outdoor survival competition.

Another human interest story was our column on the passing of Steve Jobs one of the founders of Apple. We credited him with giving many of us on this earth life in conceiving and creating products that have benefited mankind. Jobs inventions made the world a better place.

Football was in the limelight as that subject took the final three positions. Two FIFA stories took the 8th and 9th spots regarding their problems with their questionable integrity, dirty closets and laundry which need to be cleaned and addressed.

CHELSEA'S NEW KID IN TOWN manager André Villas-Boas returned to the charts. It's an old story about the tasks he faces with an old team that has come to fruition evidenced by the 5-3 loss to Arsenal this past weekend.

There were very few changes in the Sections Most Visited. The Freshie Girls & Boys remains on top while all other positions from 2 through 6 remain the same except Sports Notes changing places with soccer by taking over the 2nd spot and soccer 3rd.

Our Phnom Penh Archives section is a surprise in taking the 8th spot on the list. Travel Tips returns to the list in 10th place after being off the charts for some time. In part it is due to our not writing columns specifically on the subject.

Our Archives columns brought back a column from 2004 prior to the NGO GOLD RUSH to Cambodia. It focuses on former US Ambassador to Laos Charles Salmon when he visited the University of Cambodia to address the students regarding American Foreign Policy.

The other story of repeated interest is Phnom Penh Burning. Ironically that took place in 2003 and was about students burning down Thai owned business Phnom Penh in protest of a Thai actress claiming that the Temples of Angkor belonged to Thailand. Does that sound familiar? We lived that story was we drove an angry mob circling the Central Market prior to their setting the Samart cell phone company building on fire. Late that night we could see fires blazing throughout the city from our balcony.

As Bugs Bunny often said.... THAT'S ALL FOLKS!
