THEY'RE SAYING IT AGAIN!!!

For American Idol it's a pleasant new day with regard to having judges who are doing a credible job being judges and not trying to outshine the contestants as being more talented and powerful. We've sung this song before. What is reoccurring are the annually repeated claims that this is the best talent that we've ever had. These claims come from the old guard of the show judge Randy Jackson and host Ryan Seacrest. Our reaction to that is.... OHHH PLEASE!!!

From the shows telecast thus far this could be the second worst talent pool (in our opinion) that we've seen since season four. It's a no brainer that given the amount of talent that auditioned only so much time can be given to a contestant after the tape reaches the editing room for a one or two hour telecast.

The season Adam Lambert stunned the world with his amazing voice and talent we don't recall him receiving much if any time at all through the audition and Hollywood stage. Much of the footage used is devoted to comedic segments and those who are rejected with reaction footage being used.

At this point the most interesting talents that have emerged are Ashton Jones who somewhat reminds us of a Whitney Houston type talent but her voice is not as strong... but who's is? Fifteen year old Thea Megea who possesses a strong voice, great personality and has a wholesome image also gave an impressive performance at the Hollywood auditions.

Casey Abrams is another interesting talent. His voice is just OK but he stunned the AI judges in the Hollywood auditions by playing stand up acoustic bass to accompany his singing. With Randy Jackson being a professional bass player who worked with the band Journey he was quite impressed.

What we fail to see are talents who possess the shock value as did the Bikini Girl and Antonella Barba. It's still early and those stories may emerge. The Bikini Girl quit the show at the Hollywood auditions but returned as a celebrity on the finals of that season. One of the programs most memorable moments is when then judge Kara DioGuardi snuck up from behind on stage at the final when the Bikini Girl was singing and joined her in a spotty duet challenge.

Barba exited the show after the Top 16 when it was revealed that she posed for some sexy photos. Simon Cowell wasn't impressed with her voice and she was summarily eliminated from the program within a week of the sexy photo disclosure.

Our analogy of the show thus far is its better on the judges performance, the talent has yet to emerge soooo.... at this time it's a WORTH WATCH.
