AMERICAN IDOL JUDGES CHOOSE SIZZLE NOT STEAK

The Top 24 have been selected and will perform this week. In the elimination process what has emerged is the AI judges appear to be full of themselves due to their success last season. In the Top 24 selections they eliminated several singers that have better voices than many of those selected. Jeremy Jones is the most noteworthy.

Although he is in his late 20's the hulk of a man from Pine Hill New Jersey deemed a gentle giant by AI host Ryan Seacrest is a self proclaimed momma's boy. What stands out about Jones is his incredible low voice that is reminiscent of Isaac Hayes. He like Hayes is not going to win a contest for being the most handsome but the troubling thing about his elimination is his voice is superb. His weakness is he is not a polished performer but that is what American Idol is supposed to be about. The judge's flavor of the year last season was Casey Abrams whose voice can't hold a candle to Jones. Abrams got by on his musicianship skills NOT HIS VOICE.

When the African American was dismissed buy the magnificent 3 judges they later mentioned that they were looking for certain criteria which includes maturity and self confidence in knowing who they are and confident in their talent. They talked about finding talent that could handle the pressure of being on the show. This could be their out in not selecting Jones as he was shown on camera being extremely nervous prior to being told that he did not make it this year.

Apparently American Idol is going into the beauty contest business and is leaving its former purpose of selecting the best vocalists.

There were some tough choices but there were several eliminations where contestants appear to have been dismissed due to their insecurities and lack of awareness and belief in their talent as well as not trying to emulate other established vocalists. One thing is certain there is nobody ever in show business alive that has a voice like Jones. There is only one pop singer ever that he can be compared to Jones and that is Isaac Hayes who unfortunately is deceased. Hayes left us with his great LP's Hot Buttered Soul and Shaft. Jones has the perfect voice for that type of material.

After their questionable decisions there was an announcement that one of four eliminated contestants including Jones would be called back and there would be a Top 13 regular season show as there was last year.

Another troubling issue is the now over the top behavior of judge Randy Jackson who is taking the Simon Cowell leadership spokesperson role. In doing so he is coming off like a Dufis or Foghorn Leghorn from the cartoon for those of us that remember. If you don't know what a DUFIS is then what you don't know won't hurt you but Jackson knows.

DIRTY OLD MAN TYLER SHOWS HIS @$$

The dirty old man behavior of AI judge Steven Tyler which erupted after he listened to then 15-year-old Shannon Magrane audition. When the judges were informed that her parents were with her they asked her to tell them to come into the audition room. Magranes's father Joe a former professional major league baseball (MLB) player with the St. Louis cardinals asked Tyler how was Boston. Tyler excitedly replied, "Hot, humid and happening just like your daughter."

The room went silent as the family including her younger brothers, sisters, mom and dad didn't appreciate it and Tyler got the cold vibe.

Magrane now 16 has made it through to the Top 24. When she found out the news her parents were waiting outside with Seacrest who brought up Tyler's previous behavior to her father who replied that some of his friends said that he should have rung out the about to be 64-year-old (March 26th) Tyler's neck.

Tyler showed his rock n' roll class (and ass) at the end of the show by stripping down to his jockey shorts underwear then pulling them down and mooning the camera before jumping into the pool. Steven should realize that he is a father to a very attractive and once a young aspiring actress Liv Tyler. Tyler now 34 started her career at the age of 14, when she received her first modeling job. Karma works both ways.

This week the Top 12 boys will perform on Tuesday (Wednesday din Asia) and the girl the following day. The third day will be elimination day.
