JONAS = THE RIGHT FIT = THE RIGHT STUFF

Saturday, February 29, 2020

The Voice season 18 is off to a great start with the addition of Nick Jonas being a new judge. Jonas is familiar with the territory having been on the show in the past as a Battle Advisor in the eighth season for Team Christina.

Jonas is fitting right in with the judges who all seem to have admiration for the 27-year old entertainment star. Kelly Clarkson seems to be smitten with the youngest Jonas Brother as she repeatedly makes remarks about how cute he is.

As for Clarkson she seems to be in a great mood and appears to be seeking more fun since she dyed her hair blond. As many of us who are familiar with the saying blonds have more fun this apparently is the case.

For certain one thing she will be having fun in is her quest to close the gap on Blake Shelton as the winningest judge. The 18 season pro Shelton has won six of the 17 competitions giving him a 36% winning percentage.

Clarkson is currently tied with the now departed Adam Levine with three wins in her four previous seasons therefore she is the best having a 50% winning percentage i.e. 2 wins in 4 tries. Should she win this season she will be the best all time with a 60% winning percentage i.e. 3 wins in 5 tries.

John Legend is more at ease having a season's experience behind him. Shelton appears to be happy with his gray panther elder role by absorbing numerous humorous comments from his fellow judges regarding the subject.

Judging form the first week it appears this is the best group of judges ever in the contest. They are warm and humorous towards each other. There isn't a dominate duo giving the show a breath of fresh air that they are on even ground and respectful of each other as the amusing remarks towards each other indicates.

This season's advisors for the Battles are: Dua Lipa for Team Kelly, Joe and Kevin Jonas (Jonas Brothers) for Team Nick, Ella Mai for Team Legend, and Bebe Rexha (who was the coach for sixteenth season's Comeback Stage) for Team Blake.

Talent wise the show is off to a good start. There are some good voices in their team selections. Shelton leads in being selected to be coach by four contestants while all the other judges are tied by having been selected by three contestants.

There were three four chair turnarounds including Todd Tilghman, 41; Nelson Cade III, 27; Joanna Serenko, 18 and Toneisha Harris 44. Shelton was selected to be their coach by two of the four contestants while Jonas and Legend were selected to be their coach by the other two singers.

There were two voices that were incredibly strong and very interesting. One was a rocker that turned heads and gasps from the judges when he revealed that he was 50-years-old. Todd Michael Hall from Saginaw, Michigan rocked the stage singing "Jukebox Hero." He was a two chair turn and he selected Shelton to be his coach.

The most shocking was a singer who was initially not shown but it was apparent that the voice was strong that sounded like a female black soul singer. When the lights hit the stage it revealed a young man appearing to be in country attire. As it turned out it was a he who is gay named Zach Day 25, from Stearns, Kentucky.

Day revealed that he was jokingly referred to as Gaylor Swift by his childhood friends. Day also was only a two chair turn and selected Legend to be his coach. Day also auditioned for season thirteen of American Idol, but was cut in the Hollywood Rounds.

Overall, this could be the most entertaining season ever given the chemistry of these judges. Stay tuned….
