Shipping Wars Roy Garber is the most interesting personality on the show as he is long on clever insults and talent. As he claims when he completes a job, "Perfect, just like me." Sadly Garber passed away this past week at the age of 49 from a heart attack. His charming acrid personality live on with repeats of the series - A & E photo

SHIPPING WARS ROY GARBER PASSED AWAY

Starting off with a sad note Roy Garber of the Shipping Wars TV show telecast on the BIO channel in East Asia and A&E in America passed away this past week at the age of 49. Heart attack was announced as the cause of death. The silver haired Garber was a heavy smoker that annoyed fellow shipper Jennifer Brennan on the show. The chemistry between the two was one of the most interesting and laughable features on the series.

Garber was known for his acerbic comments which were for the most part spot on. Although he's no longer with us repeats of the series air weekly on the BIO channel. Garber's acrid personality is capable of bringing a smile to your face. Shipping Wars is A WORTH WATCH and Garber's talent will be greatly missed…

JENNIFER LOPEZ & HARRY CONNICK JR the NEW IDOL JUDGE

If you weren't aware it's American Idol time again with Jennifer "I want you to win Phillip" Lopez returning to the show as a biased judge. She made the comment we noted with her name when she blurted out that statement early on in the competition two seasons ago for Phillip Phillips that he eventually and unfairly won over Jessica Sanchez. It was another WBWG as the Philippine media coined White Boy With Guitar when the best singer in the competition was defeated by Phillips largely with the help of the biased Lopez.

Since that time we are not interested in the show as it appears to be more fixed year after year with their questionable decisions and results. For the most part year after year the best singer mysteriously finishes 2nd.

Changes have been made with the addition of new judge Harry Connick Jr. who is more than qualified as he is a true musician. Connick is also a talented singer who sounds like the legendary Frank Sinatra. Much of Connick's early singing career was sounding like Sinatra. Since that time he has excelled with his musicianship and big bands. Connick also has had a successful career as an actor. He brings a quality musician's background to the show and will give the program a down to earth base of judging logic.

His addition to the show gives Idol a qualified decision making balance unlike the farce that the show displayed last season with the ghetto speak of Niki Minaj and Randy Jackson. It was as if they were trying to build a gangster audience which was a departure from a show that is largely viewed by innocent young teenagers or pre teens as some contestants say they've watched Idol since they were 6 years old.

Minaj was the worst of all of the mistakes Idol decision makers have ever made since they tried to fix the show and make it better with changing judges and firing Paula Abdul. We weren't familiar with Minaj's stage or vocal work when she was announced last season as being a judge. Recently we saw a video of her singing about licking her pussy. We have no problem with the act but must question why Idol would hire someone with that type of history singing songs with questionable lyrics.

Idol started to lose the plot in 2009 when they hired songwriter Kara DioGuardi to be a fourth judge. Her critiques were mostly spot on but wordy. The following season they fired long time favorite though often memory challenged judge Abdul. They replaced her with a talk show host who some considered a comedian Ellen DeGeneres who had a ZERO background in the music business. Her stay was short lived as she admitted that music wasn't her thing. The show has been in the red zone of destruction and falling ratings ever since with mistake after mistake.

Other changes this season have been made as two of Idol's worst decision makers have departed. Executive producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick were succeeded by Per Blankens, previously of Idol, the Swedish version of the Idols format. Lythgoe and Warwick's trashy history includes the embarrassing dismissal of Jermaine Jones which was one of the most controversial events ever on the program.

Fox television executive Mike Darnell who helped launch American Idol in 2002 left as programming head of Fox, and Fox Sports executive David Hill was hired to oversee the series. This could be another mistake. In the past I've dealt with Hill when he met with our Television Critics Association journalists. I found him to be rude and acerbic. Should he bring that attitude to Idol the program will continue to go down the tubes.

It was reported that Jimmy Iovine would not return as the in-house mentor for this season, but he is to be replaced by former judge Randy Jackson. This is another nightmare waiting to happen. Jackson is ghetto speaking individual whose verbal Mr. Hip act is old and worn out.

Keith Urban is a good guy with knowledge. He's down to earth and easy to listen to. For the most part he's spot on with his analysis.

Overall I'm burnt out on the show as it produces more anger than pleasure. The result is when I'm watching another show that goes to commercial I'll tune in to Idol to check on what's happening. For real, I've totally lost interest in the show. That's a personal decision but if you continue to be an Idol fan it's UP TO YOU as we find it NOT WORTH OUR TIME.

K-POP STAR HUNT

We have found a show that did peak our interest in K POP STAR HUNT from South Korea that is televised on Channel M in East Asia. The finals will be televised Saturday January 25th at 8 PM Thailand time and 9 PM in the Hong Kong/Singapore time zones.

The finals will feature the TOP 4 consisting of three girls and a 15-year-old boy. The most interesting personality is Stephanie from Singapore. She has a very Westernized don't give a damn attitude. Stephanie is a good singer and dancer and has a strange sexiness about her presence. She has slightly buck teeth but her personality is what sells her.

The best voice belongs to Putri a beautiful Malaysian Muslim who has been controversial as she respects her faith by keeping her head covered and shows very little skin. This is a major stickler with K POP since their talent is about selling the sexual angle focusing on showing a lot of skin, sexy dancing and making sexually suggestive motions. She acknowledges that she is not a good dancer. It's her voice that is outstanding and gives her an edge in the vocal department. Both of these young ladies speak excellent English.

What makes this show so interesting is up till now there has been no studio audience and contestants perform only to the judges. This gives the show purity and focuses on the talent unlike American Idol which focuses on pimping off the celebrity of the judges. The judges on K POP don't speak English which adds to the appeal as their decisions are revealed in their expressions and the reactions of the talent.

The contestants come from several countries around East Asia including Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines and Taiwan. This adds another dimension of interest as the contestants blend their cultures and personalities to become somewhat of a family. This is the United Nations of East Asian youth.

Should the repeat their history in televising their previous seasons 1 & 2 they will repeat the entire series from the audition stages searching for talent from various countries. Previously the re-runs were televised shortly after they air the final. We rate this as a MUST WATCH.
