DECISIONS BEHIND THE SCENES?

One might think that comparing American Idol with Cambodia is a stretch but they would be wrong. People are people regardless where they are and human behavior and prejudice come into play.

We have questioned some of the decisions made by the judges and the American idol powers that be including the hiring of Ellen Degeneres as a judge minus her lacking a background in the music business. Some of those contestants eliminated have for more talent than some who have made it through to the final 12 but here is what may have come into play behind the scenes resulting in some of the eliminations.

In our previous column we pointed out how sponsors and management play a major role in what happens to a show with much of it going bad such as we see American idol going down the drain.

Behaviors such as ego, conflicting personalities and backstabbing all factor in the direction of a program. We pointed out that during the Hollywood auditions Thaddeus Johnson 16 should have never been eliminated since he had a better voice than those who went through. Jermaine Sellers 26 was eliminated in the top 20 eliminations and he has one of the best voices of those six males who are in the top six males. His problem was the judges didn't like the way he played with the true melody of a song. The problem is both contestants have massive egos and that apparently made a difference.

While covering the Freshie Girl & Boy contest in Cambodia one of the organizers pointed out how they observed the manners of the contestants when they are in the hotel or out on promotion events. Some contestants who are rude and disrespectful were eliminated talented of not. The point being was could they work with those trouble making people and the decision was made that it wasn't worth the trouble. In part a contestant's behavior was representative of the title they were seeking which required a well mannered individual.

American Idol is in the same position as in the past they have had some skeletons in their closet with contestants with questionable pasts coming to fore as having done nude modeling or have had relationships with the judges.

This season the show appears to be on damage control as a cloud is hovering over the heads of the judges and contestants as if big brother is watching over them. The electric personalities and dynamics of the show have disappeared. One question arises is the chemistry of Paula Abdul with Jackson and Cowell something that should have not been tampered with? As they say if it ain't broke DON'T FIX IT.

Another example from the Freshie contest eliminations is that some were made due to one of the girls having a relationship with well known politicians. Other eliminations were made when backstabbing was a factor with contestants creating problems for others.

Though we don't know what goes on behind the scenes at rehearsals or promotions for American Idol personality clashes and being a disrespectful person or hard to work with can factor into a contestants exit. Their attitude outweighs their performance.

One of these girls was eliminated because the organizers of Cambodia's Freshie contest felt the other three was more beautiful. Choose who you think was eliminated and who is the most beautiful. The answer will appear in our next column Part 3 - (Freshie photos)

One Freshie contestant was eliminated at the top 20 level because the organizers who mad the decisions felt that there were 14 other girls who were better looking. The elimination was scored on a contestant's beauty.

The result was it was such an unthinkable and prejudiced decision from that point we refused to be a judge for the series or report on the proceedings. As a test we put a composite photo of three girls who went through with the one who was eliminated and sent it to our colleagues for their opinion. They all chose the girl who was eliminated as being the best looking.

One of our observations of misconduct was the Philippines Dream Academy contest where the contestants ganged up on a contestant LAARNI LOSALA who was poor, had an abusive family experience and was brought to tears as they continually talked behind her aback and verbally abused her. Competitors tried to make a point that she had bad hygiene. Our opinion was simple… she had the best voice.

This show was televised comparable to in a Big Brother communal living situation. The judges were always criticizing her and talking down to her. Fortunately the viewing public was aware of the negative tactics towards her and she became the Cinderella of the Philippine television world by being voted the winner of the contest.

To heighten the way the ABS-CBN network abused this talented lady is that they had the unmitigated gall to change her name without consulting her to Laarni Lozada after she won the title.

The bottom line is we the public really don't know what goes on behind the scenes of American Idol that has resulted in so many bad decisions and the worst selection of talent that we have ever seen. We can only tune out or endure and take the Beatles advice and LET IT BE…
