USA vs. ASIA RACE - WHAT'S THE DIFF?

At this point in the Amazing Race Asia is currently more interesting than the USA version. In part the various nationalities and their accents of the English language add color to the show. The team selections are more interesting and energetic again given the various cultures. In comparison the programs season one contestants were boring. The series is improving with each new season.

In the last episode the USA version showed that they have a heart. The Asian father and son team of Michael (father) and Kevin (son) experienced physical problems and finished last they stood before host Phil Keoghan waiting for the bad news.

The 59-year-old Michael was exhausted on tasks involving moving items in a wheel-barrel on a hot humid 98 degree day in Ghana and moving a bicycle rim with a stick over a field he required medical help and had to take a rest. Kevin is slight of build but at 20 in good physical shape.

"I'm ready to be eliminated," Michael said to his son as they headed toward the pit stop. Upon arrival Keohghan said that he was sorry to tell them that they were the last to arrive but added, "Guys there is actually some good news for coming in last in this leg of the race. This is a non elimination leg."

That is one of the most heart warming experiences we have ever witnessed on either version of the Amazing Race's.

So... what's the diff (difference) between the two? The USA version has a larger budget with a $1 million prize for the winner compared to only $100,000 for the Asian version. This past week the first place finishers in the USA race receive $5,000 each for finishing first. Princeton University (USA) a cappella singers Connor & Jonathan stashed the cash. The Asian first place finishers were the bad dudes Richard and Richard representing the Philippines only received $2,000 each.

The USA edition travels further and by air whereas the Asian race spends as much as two episodes in the same country and travel much of the time on land via taxi, bus or having to walk.

Though the USA race has visited Cambodia twice during two different races a young executive with the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism prefers the Asian race although the Asian version has yet to visit pretty much a neighboring country. The Asian Race is produced from another ASEAN nation Singapore.

The bottom line is both shows have entertainment value but whatever you prefer remember this... the race is on! Can the Asian father and son team survive? Tune in TONIGHT Monday October 18th on the AXN Network in Southeast Asia or miss out.

NOTE the schedules for both races below include repeat shows throughout the week.

FYI:

The Hong Kong couple Wendy and Alan who finished last two consecutive weeks were eliminated after being in first place after the first two tasks. They took a slow but to the third task finding that all of the other teams had arrived. It was down hill from there.

EXTRA NOTE:

For some UNEXPLAINED reason AXN is junking up their schedule by having some programs start 10 minutes after the hour. That time is usually used to promote other programs on the network. When noting our schedule below please take this tip into consideration.

The Australia Network

The Australia Network is offering an interesting program this week Future Express - Bosnia

Future Express - Bosnia

Awakening in a New Dream Ethnic violence between Bosnian Muslims, Croatians and Serbians caused more than 100,000 casualties in three years time, and millions of people fled from the country. When the fighting began in 1992, the engine driver of the train had to assess every station to decide whether it was safe to drive through it. All railway traffic eventually came to a halt. Now the situation is peaceful, and the Sarajevo Express between Zagreb and Sarajevo is using three different railway cars, a Serbian, a Croatian and a Bosnian one, symbolizing a semblance of contact between the population groups. In this episode the Future Express listens to the new dreams of travelers after the long nightmare of war.
