Video Beat Part 4 - CNN EXPLOITS LITTLE GIRL

James Loving - National Radio Text Service

Nujood Ali was regularly beaten by her in-laws, raped by her husband. When CNN told her story her life became more tragic but CNN returned to feed off of her again for their selfish gratification. The fact that CNN was shameless enough to further exploit this young girl is indicative of how they practice mercenary journalism and take no prisoners as anyone who dies in their way of a story is apparently a causality of news wars scrambling for ratings - Recommended TV Listings

AMERICAN IDOL'S SANJAYA MALAKAR - IS A CELEBRITY

If you're a fan of former American Idol contestant Sanjaya Malakar he's resurfaced as contestant on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' which qualifies as being one of the worst TV programs of all-time. There is a silver lining in the I'm a Celebrity show. Though the title is a misnomer as we were only familiar with six of the shows 13 contestants the positive element of the program is an insight to some of the off camera personalities of the participants. The human behavior aspect of the Americans is also enlightening for International viewers. The reputation of being deemed Ugly Americans certainly has its place on this show.

The 18-year-old Malakar was not American Idol judge Simon Cowell's favorite Idol competitor. Malakar could rank as being Cowell's most despised Idol participant. On this show Malakar stands above the rest in taking on challenges and winning thus gaining his fellow opponents respect. He has lost their admiration by displaying his feminine side too much and being the as they say the cabana boy for former super model Janice Dickenson.

Malakar also had a love interest in Holly Montag who took her sister Heidi's place when she became ill. That love interest fizzled out when Sanjaya made some comments about being called a play gay by his friends which made Montag wonder of he really was or not.

This past week both Montag and Dickenson were voted off the show by the viewing public thus leaving Sanjaya somewhat stranded in the best buddy department. Malakar doesn't win the contest and his time on the show is limited so if you're a Sanjaya fan tune in or if not… tune out.

CNN'S EXPLOITATION OF CHILDREN

When it comes to sensationalism and exploitation no one does it better than CNN. They did it again in their program Worlds Untold stories. Since CNN previously told to story of 10 year-old Nujood Ali being forced into marriage it was more so a follow up to expose the damage that they had done to this young girl who talked to CNN in hope that it would do some good and help her out of a bad situation. Her trust was misled as all the report did was create more problems and despair for her as she said that she would never talk to the network again.

Nujood Ali from Yemen was only nine years old when her parents married her to a man in his thirties. Regularly beaten by her in-laws, raped by her husband, she began to visit with her parents to escape on 2 April 2008, two months after the wedding. On the advice of the second wife of her father, she went directly to court, only to seek a divorce. After half a day of waiting, she was noticed by the judge, Mohammed al-ghadha who took it upon himself to host her temporarily and sent father and husband in custody.

Yemeni law sets no minimum age for marriage but prohibits sexual relations with young wives until they are ready. In court, it was argued that the husband had broken the law because there had been rape. Nujood rejected the proposal of the judge to resume living together after a break of three to five years. On 15 April, the court granted him a divorce. She won the verdict but had to pay her husband $200 for compensation. Her family blames her for bringing shame on them. They thought that they would receive money from the Nujood being in the news.

The fact that CNN was shameless enough to further exploit this young girl is indicative of how they practice mercenary journalism and take no prisoners as anyone who dies in their way of a story is apparently a causality of news wars scrambling for ratings. CNN has slaughtered another sacrificial lamb unfortunately it is a young child who remains helpless.

"I wish I had never spoken to the media," Nujood said on the program and that sums up her unpleasant situation as a result of the bottom feeding CNN Network digging for dirt at anyone's expense.

AUSTRALIA NETWORKS NEW SHOWS

Though Trails from the East is drawing to a close with their final stop being that Baltic nations the Australia Network has other programming of interest. Blood Sweat & T Shirts is a reality show that follows the experiences of several English college students who travel through India working and living the life of the India's poor. They take jobs relating to the garment industry for the wage a regular Indian employee receives and try to get by.

They also live in a similar manner as Indian employees. The last episode had them sleeping on the floor of the factory where they made garments. Interviews from the students with the Indian workers have them trying to understand how they can make a living and care for their families on such meager wages. In the next episode they travel to a remote area and pick cotton.

Also on the Australia Network is Criminal Justice which is similar to the American TV show Cops. The shows focus is on Australian police apprehending criminals. The schedule of both programs is below in our TV schedule.

AMERICAN IDOL RERUNS TRANSLATED IN KHMER LANGUAGE

It seems that American Idols licensing partner Freemantle Media is doing business in Cambodia as Cambodia's My TV is airing reruns of the show with Khmer translations on Sunday afternoons. My TV is positioned in the channel previously designated for the CTN (Cambodian Television Network) International channel. That channel has been moved to a less favorable position from 51 to 68 which is at the end of the channel spectrum on many of the older TV sets in Cambodia.
