ATTITUDE EQUALS WNBA LATITUDE

The big WNBA stories are starting to unfold. The reasons why are simple; they have interesting players with interesting backgrounds. There's no question that the history between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese reigns supreme. Their continued competitiveness dates back to their college days and brightens and spices up the league.

The sad issue is Reese's Chicago Sky are losing and dwell at the bottom of the standings. Their winning percentage compares with last season, Reese's rookie year. She is criticized for having a bad attitude. She is accused of complaining too much and not being a good sport and positive effect for the team. Her temper in a game, in slapping the clipboard out of the hands of a team executive incident, is cited as an example.

Clark, on the other hand, is a top draw. Her team leadership is beyond compare so much so that her spirit inspires the team to wins. Ironically both stars are n the injured list. Clark has been pushed and bumped and thumped around simply from opponents trying to intimidate her.

One criticism by media is the referees do nothing in calling obvious fouls; it's as if they are another opponent she must overcome. She continually bounces back but a groin injury has kept her sidelined much of the season. While she sits the team keeps winning.

Reese has missed recent games with a back injury. The obvious point between the two teams is the Sky has a weak roster and the Fever are better. While Clark is absent teammates have stepped up to fill the void. The Sky continues to lose without Reese.

With roughly ten games left of a forty-game season the Fever are one of the eight eligible teams in the playoff hunt. Fever coach Stephanie White said that Clark is progressing from an injured right groin but still is not practicing. She has missed nine games with this injury, thus far.

Clark has not played since suffering the injury in the final minute of an 85-77 victory over the Connecticut Sun on July 15. She has a 16.5 ppg. average and 8.8 assist per game average. The Sky are out of the playoff picture. It appears that Reese will sit out the remainder of the campaign. For the money she makes from the WNBA, it simply might not be worth it. She claims that she makes more money from her social media.

To each her own, one is with... the other... alone.

GO FIGURE

The Washington Mystics made a surprise trade in dealing the teams statistics leader, Brittney Sykes, 31 to the Seattle Storm. In return they received 37-year-old, 5'11" forward Alysha Clark who was a non-starter.

The Mystics claim they are looking towards their future. Thus far the team has improved over last season and is in the hunt to qualify for the playoffs. In her two games with the Mystics, Clark registered three and nine points respectively. She continues to come off the bench and received 13 and 26 minutes of play in each of her first two games with the squad. She has a 3.7 ppg. season average.

The DC side have lost seven of their last nine games but turned that around with a 91-78 victory over the Dallas Wings. Their top draft choice Sonia Citron has responded in leading the team scoring 26 and 18 points in her last two games since the trade. She has a 14.8 ppg. season average. The Mystics have already equaled their 14 wins from last season with nine games to go.

The Mystics other first round choice Kiki Iriafen is shining bright with a 12.5 ppg game average to go along with 8.3 rpg. With their two first round draft choice having such success in their rookie season indicates that the Mystics are on the right track in developing a strong roster. Both rookies were selected for the Al Star game.

Since the trade to the Storm Sykes came off the bench in her first game with the team and scored 14 points. She started the following game against the Los Angeles Sparks and led her side with 27 points in a 94-91 loss. The 5' 9" Sykes has a 15.7 ppg. season average. The team is on a five-game losing streak and has lost seven of their last nine.

NBA GAME CHANGE SUGGESTIONS:

Make a rule where a team can only take 30 three-point shots a game. This will create more strategy. A shot clock can be doubled in two sections where one side is about 3-point shots taken and the other being the 24 second clock.
