IS LUE THE GLUE 4 CAVALIERS SUCCESS?

Since the departure of former Cleveland Cavaliers coach David Blatt the dust is starting to settle and results are coming in. Former NBA reserve player and Blatt's assistant coach Tyronn Lue has taken over the coaching reigns the team has found a new life. Lue has put his stamp on the team and the regenerated Cavaliers have won 10 of their 13 games under his leadership and he seems to be the glue to their success.

The change came about due to Blatt's failures that have been reported which included alienating the team by playing favorites. He favored LeBron James and gave limited playing time to the now traded Anderson Varejao as well as reserves Mo Williams and Richard Jefferson. With James being accused of being the root cause of Blatt's dismissal it appeared that Lue would have a bumpy road to travel. Another one of Lue's projects was to find a more active role for Kevin Love to apply his shooting skills that made him so successful with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Since joining the Cavaliers Love's scoring has diminished and he seems to be a fish out of water.

Lue's boldest move was to inform the team that the game of basketball will eventually pass them by. He pointed out that even LeBron James would be in time out of the game many of his achievements could be forgotten.

This point is glaringly demonstrated in various all time NBA All Star teams selected by fans and organizations. As a tangent to Lue's story we made our own All-star choices based on our first hand experience of having seen all of the players live and not on television. Our selections include many players that played in eras before many of the pundits that currently select All-star teams were born.

ESPN named their TOP 100 players and what stands out is how much they think about Kobe Bryant. Bryant is a great player but not a team player as it's all about Kobe. ESPN ranked him between 11-15, above Elgin Baylor whom they ranked 24. That indicates that those who made the choice are young and never saw Baylor play.

Baylor is on our first team along with Bill Russell and Larry Bird. ESPN ranked Russell 7th and Bird 6th.

One of ESPN's best groupings from 21 to 25 includes three active players Kevin Garnett 21, Kevin Durant 22nd, and Steph Curry 23, Baylor 24th and Scottie Pippen 25th.

This is a very interesting team and a great a great group if you consider Garnett's playing skills at the prime of his career. This team is competitive against any all star team.

One of the most amusing choices was made by Karl Malone who we chose as our 2nd team power forward. For his team he chose John Stockton and Oscar Robertson as his guards, Wilt Chamberlain at center, LeBron James at power forward and Scottie Pippen at small forward.

Different strokes for different folks as we chose James to play guard.

JEREMY LIN OBSERVATION

Michael Jordan says he likes Jeremy Lin. By their actions in letting him go the Los Angeles Lakers dIdn't.

NBA MVP Steph Curry's father Del who formerly played for the Charlotte Hornets is now on their broadcast team as a color analyst. In a recent game against the Cleveland Cavaliers Del noted that Lin dribbles too much. Hmmmm…. that observation is one that we've never heard before. The bottom line is Lin filling in at point guard for Kemba Walker led the Hornets to defeat the Cavs and in the process scored 24 points
