SUPER TALENT RULES

Applying an often used Mafia saying going for the bones means the score or the money therefore we will apply that to the amazing performance this season of the Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes in their effort to reach the Super Bowl and win it.

In only his second professional year Mahomes has set records in leading his team to a 12-4 record and a playoff bye. The bye is over and Mahomes will face playoff pressure for the first time in a game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Mahomes record setting year was highlighted with an NFL high 50 touchdown passes. What sets Mahomes apart from other NFL quarterbacks is how quickly he developed with only one seasons experience in the league as an understudy to Alex Smith.

Mahomes got off to a record breaking start in the 2018 season. His first career touchdown came on a 58 yard pass to wide receiver Tyreek Hill in the first quarter against the Chargers. The following week Mahomes threw for 326 yards, six touchdowns, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 154.8. After throwing his fifth touchdown in the game, he broke the NFL record for most touchdown passes through a quarterback's first three career games.

Following his sixth touchdown pass in the game, he broke the NFL record for touchdown passes thrown in the first two weeks of the season. For his performance against the Steelers, Mahomes won his second consecutive AFC Offensive Player of the Week award becoming the first quarterback since Tom Brady in 2011 to start the season with back-to-back player of the week awards.

Mahomes scorched the league with 50 touchdowns and 5,000 yards. His performances have retired NFL QB's such as Troy Aikman, Curt Warner and Tony Romo now TV analysts amazed how effortlessly the youngster can make accurate, powerful throws while going to his left. In some instances he throws accurately while being off balance

In the Chiefs four losses Mahomes dueled and played like a 10 year veteran. The most memorable is his battle with a down the wire 43-40 loss to the New England Patriots and Tom Brady who is touted as being the league's best ever quarterback. In that contest Mahomes outperformed Brady by throwing for four touchdowns and 352 yards earning him a passing rating of 110.0.

During Monday Night Football game against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 11, Mahomes finished with 478 passing yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions as the Chiefs lost 51-54.

Following an 89 yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Demarcus Robinson in a Week 17 game against the Oakland Raiders, Mahomes became the second quarterback in NFL history, along with Peyton Manning, to throw for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. Additionally, he is one of seven players in NFL history with 5,000 passing yards in a season. He was named to his first Pro Bowl and was named First-Team All-Pro.

Mahomes led the Chiefs to the league's best offense scoring 565 points. The squad also led the league with the greatest points differential with a + 144 advantage.

The 23-year-old is the leagues greatest bargain. The Chiefs selected Mahomes in the first round (10th overall) in the 2017 NFL Draft. He was the first quarterback selected by the Chiefs in the first round since they selected Todd Blackledge seventh overall in the 1983 NFL Draft. On July 20, 2017, the Chiefs signed Mahomes to a fully guaranteed four-year, $16.42 million contract that includes a signing bonus of $10.08 million.

Why? Check out Mahomes accomplishments in only his 2nd year in the league:

NFL records

* First player to throw for over 3,000 yards in his first ten games (3,185)

* Most touchdown passes thrown through first three career games (10)

* Most touchdown passes thrown in a game: 6 (2018, tied)

* Most touchdown passes in a season: 50 (2018)

* Most passing yards in a season: 5,097 (2018)

Whatever the results are for the Chiefs and Mahomes in the playoffs should his career continue as it has this season we may be witnessing the NFL's greatest ever quarterback. In summary MAHOMES IS GOING FOR THE BONES.
