SPORTS NOTES - WARRIORS CLAW THEIR WAY BACK to their 4th TITLE

James Loving/National Radio Text Service

For the past two seasons everything that could go wrong did go wrong for the Golden State Warriors. They didn't play the shoulda, wouda, couda game they simply sucked it up and went to work. They worked hard in healing injuries and their tough play on the court. When their injury nightmare healed they fought their way back to the top of the mountain in winning the 4th NBA title with their core group of Curry, Thompson and Green - NBA's ALL TIME BEST PLAYERS 1st and 2nd TEAMS

THE BAY CITY BOYS RULE AGAIN

Well many tried to tell you so… THE WARRIORS ARE BACK! Winning a title after a two year drought is the icing on the cake. The dudes from central California pulled it off winning their 4th title with the core group of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. Anthony Wiggins proved to be a compliment to the big three and contributed a strong playoff performance. As they continue to get to know each other, the league is in trouble since they have the talent to be the most dominate dynasty team of the 21st Century.

The team was strong enough to deal with a nightmare past two seasons when Thompson was missing and recovering from and ACL injury... TWICE, Curry missed a number of games last season with a hand injury and Green was seemingly out of tune with himself. It all sums up to a 15-50 season in 2019-20 and 39-33 result in 2020-21. With the return of Thompson and a healthy Curry they are playing their winning tune again.

The most interesting point is they did it with their weakest team of their four title winning squads. They did it with Thompson playing at half to ¾ speeds after he returned. It's apparent that he's still not confident enough with his healing process, particularly after the firs healing process he injured it again in a pick-up basketball game. It will take time for him to trust his legs and is playing without thinking about the condition of his legs. It takes a player time to gain the strength and confidence in recovering from an ACL injury.

At last Curry won his first FINALS MVP trophy. Previously Andre Iguodala won it in their first title in 2015 and Kevin Durant won it in their 2nd and 3rd titles in 2017 and 2018. In a strange way Green made a statement that the team goes through Curry. It was simply a statement and not meant to infer a slight at Durant who often made comments that he felt unappreciated. That sentiment was largely the impetus for him to take his talents elsewhere with the Brooklyn Nets. With the Nets he could be top dog.

The Warriors winning tune is the rhythm that the three key players move and continually rotate without the ball. They continuously move the ball in breaking down defenses. When they are in sync they are one of the best rotation movement teams in the NBA. Comparisons could be made of the great Boston Celtics teams of the 60's whose movement without the ball, fast break and running lanes complimented by their depth was a key to their strength. The Magic Johnson Lakers of the 80's were the best in sync teams ever as he was the master of their fast break, with his teammates running lanes and his long ball passing deliveries. They were consistent at it and it paid off with five titles during that decade.

The Bay City buys are back in town and their chickens have come home to roost with another NBA title.
