YEA, YEA, SURE, SURE

Without doubt our October 2023 column Topsy Tervy World in Sports was our most popular sports column since The Big Three No Happy Brooklyn Nets from January 2021.

Close behind were our columns on Major League Baseball phenom Shohei Ohtani. Well, the Nets were busted and all three of those players, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden have found new homes with Harden moving on twice.

Harden went from the Nets to the Philadelphia 76ers and now to the Los Angeles Clippers. We wish them all well in happy, happy land, or should we say landings.

With that history it's only fitting to follow up the column's success with a feel-good story. Yes, Topsy Tervy featured the romance of the Lady and the Tramp aka the Lady being Taylor 'Swifty' Swift and American football's super star Travis Kelce. But… wait up there is another feel good story that recently came about.

This story is about baseball's super star Shohei Ohtani getting married. What makes this such a standout is he married another star athlete from Japan. Mamiko Tanaka is the lucky lady that tied the knot with Shohei as in SO HE GOT MARRIED.

The two newlyweds haven't specified when they actually tied the knot as they prefer to keep their personal lives... PERSONAL.

The news broke last week. The Los Angeles Dodgers confirmed they were married in February 2024.

"Not only have I began a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers but I also have began a new life with someone from my Native country of Japan who is very special to me and I wanted everyone to know I am now married," he wrote in an announcement on Instagram. I

t appears that we aren't the only journalists that care to know more about Mamiko as new videos are piling on.

We wanted to know about her playing skills. There is a video on Yahoo included in a story that highlights her playing her game. The video shows her on a five-side team and also in 3 on 3 competition. She can shoot three's, drive well, has a left a good left hand and hustles.

Mamiko also a karate athlete, started her career playing for Waseeda University before going professional in 2019 with the Fujitsu Red Wave of the Women's Japan Basketball League. The 5-foot-11 forward played for the team for four years before retiring in 2023.

In 2023, her last season, Tanaka had a shooting rate of 47.7% from the field and 69.9% from the free throw line across 28 games, per ESPN.

There is another video on You Tube that shows her playing 3 on 3 ball. The Yahoo video is much better. The problem is being that since its Yahoo, how long will it be available.

We also searched You Tube and found an interesting video of the couple coming or going… not sure… that is in the Japanese language. It's the images that stand out. It shows the couple together and also Mamiko playfully dancing with apparently two of her teammates.

As they make their way to wherever they were going, the now Mamiko Ohtani follows behind Shohei as is Asian tradition. She seems amused and smiling at all of the attention Shohei is receiving from the frenzied crowd.

It's a good thing that Shohei doesn't speak English. That helps save him from being attacked from that money grabbing attention seeking Kardashian clan.

SHOHEI OHTANI's WIFE

Is Shohei Ohtani's Wife a Beautiful Basketball Player? The Reasons Behind Japan's Online Buzz

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSxcdZJIspc

After baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers announced his marriage, the online community has been buzzing with speculation about his wife's identity, strongly suggesting former basketball player Mamiko Tanaka as the prime candidate.

This conjecture arose following a YouTube video from an LA Dodgers training camp, which gained attention for featuring a woman resembling Tanaka. With a background as a karate athlete before turning to basketball in middle school, Tanaka became a celebrated figure in Japanese women's basketball, achieving success in high school and university, and even representing Japan at the Universiade.

Despite her retirement from professional basketball last year and closing her Instagram account, her match with Ohtani's described preferences in interviews—enjoying the company of tall, athletic individuals—has fueled the fire.

American baseball journalists have described Ohtani's wife as a tall, beautiful former basketball player and a graduate of a prestigious private university, which aligns with Tanaka's profile.

Despite the intense speculation and matching descriptions, Ohtani has remained private about his wife's identity, only sharing that she is a "very ordinary Japanese person" he met three to four years ago, emphasizing the joy and understanding she brings to his life.
