BIG CHANGES

NBA

NBA Uh Oh…. Somebody knows what they're doing in the Charlotte Hornets camp. It appears they are getting all of their ducks in a row. The team seems to be jelling as a result of their draft choices.

The side has added support and more to surround the often injured LaMello Ball. Kon Knueppel seems to be the cherry on top of their 2025 draft with the 4th overall choice complimented by their 2nd overall pick in 2023, Brandon Miller. Miller has matured into a 20ppg. threat. The trio is jelling and is experiencing winning ways. Although they are not a threat to this season's title chase, they can be a factor.

The side has a 30-31record and are on a four game winning streak and 7-3 in their past 10 games. Up to this point they have achieved their best record since the 2021/22 season when the registered a 43-39 record.

HE'S STILL GOT IT

At 37, the old man (?), Kevin Durant has still got it. Shooting 26.1ppg, Durant is averaging just one point under his career average. The 6'11"forward is the sixth highest scorer in NBA history. He is being championed to represent the US in this years Summer Olympics. Durant has expressed his interest in playing in the games. US Olympic team assistant and Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra is excited at the prospect of Durant being on the team.

"Hopefully I get that chance. I've got to stay on top of my game. I keep saying that. I want to earn my spot on the team. Got to stay on top of my game and hopefully I'm out there with Coach Spo and his staff," Durant said.

TRIVIA QUESTION 1

What infamous incident did Erik Spoelstra experience during his playing days?

DID YOU KNOW:

John Wooden holds the record for coaching 10 UCLA teams to an NCAA TITLE. Amazingly he coached the Bruins to seven titles in a row. Wooden also played professionally before the NBA was created.

SOCCER

TRINITY RODMAN… YOU GO GIRL

What's in a name? If it's Rodman, that translates into controversy. The Bad Girl Trinity Rodman (in a good way) first dished out drama as to if she would be playing in Europe. Her reply was it's NOT IF BUT WHEN. Then came the drama that her American team, the Washington Mystics, offered her a million dollar a season salary. That caused alarms since it was finagled in a way that was against league policy.

The if... is still in play. The when... remains a question. The IT GIRL signed a three-year contract $2 million a season contract with the Mystics. The deal is makes her one of the highest-paid players in women's soccer. The now 23-year-old has grown into her big girl pants and is now a woman to be reckoned with in the sports business.

TRIVIA QUESTION 2

What was the largest contract that Dennis Rodman signed in the NBA?

WNBA

The WNBA has agreed to including housing in their proposed agreement with the Players Union. With the unbridled coast of rent rising faster than yeast it is a good deal to make. A million dollar salary can't go far in today's American economy. Like yeast, it rises somewhere every day.

TRIVIA ANSWER # 1

$9 million with the Chicago Bulls in 1996/97. He was the 10th highest player in the league that season.

TRIVIA ANSWER #2

Spoelstra was on the floor playing for Portland University when Hank Gathers with Loyola University had a heart attack and passed away.

NBA THIS DAY

March 2, 1951 In the first NBA All-Star Game, held at Boston Garden, "Easy" Ed Macauley of the Celtics scored 20 points to lead the East to a 111-94 victory. Macauley was named the game's MVP.

March 2, 1962 Wilt Chamberlain of the Philadelphia Warriors scored 100 points, the most ever by an NBA player in a single game, during his team's 169-147 win over the New York Knicks in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Chamberlain shot 36-of-63 from the field and 28-of-32 from the free throw line, to go with 25 rebounds. His 50.4 ppg scoring average in 80 games during the 1961-62 season remains an NBA record.

March 2, 1988 The flaming basketball is adopted as Miami's official logo from over 1,000 entries. Mark Henderson submitted the winning entry.

March 2, 1993 Denver retired the #7 jersey of long-time Nugget Alex English, who spent 10 1/2 of his 15 years in the NBA in the Mile High City, scoring a career total of 25,613 points.
