BOOM or BUST?

It all counts when the rubber meets the road. That applies to when Ronda Rousey took on Gina Carano. There wasn't much to expect as Rousey ended it all with ther trademark armbar in 17 seconds. It's not a case of IS THAT ALL but one has to read into the topic with a positive perspective.

What more could you expect from Carano who hasn't fought in 17 years. When we last saw her on Joe Rogan''s podcast she was a little porky. She was so porky that she had to lose 100 pounds to make the 145 pound weight limit to fight Rousey. She made the weight but there is no doubt that she is not at peak strength and her reflex timing to defend was down.

Now that's the positive aspect. The challenge to make weight made a big difference in the former Envicta champ's life. Prior to Rousey's challenge Carano was living in a world of gloom.

The 44-year-old was an actress that was terminated from being on a hit TV series. Her crime to the Jews that run the entertainment business is she tweeted something that was interpreted as supporting Palestine. That is a sin for the Jews that support Israel as well as their being in control of the entertainment business. To the Jews, punishment was in order.

Leading up to the fight, if you want to call it that, was Carano won a law suite regarding her being fired. The terms of the settlement remain a secret. It's a no brainer that the stress of her experience had to take its toll. That's where her saviour Rousey came into the picture and challenged her to a big money match.

Rousey claims she's always been a big fan of Carano. Rousey, being 39, has something to do with it since Carano's fighting career was basically over when Rousey's began.

Looking ahead, Rousey says she no longer wants to continue fighting although UFC boss Dana White is probably salivating at the prospect of her doing so. Rousey says her husband, ex UFC heavyweight fighter Travis Brown is against her returning to the ring. Rousey says she just wants to return to her ranch and make more babies, to add to the two she presently has.

When Carano was asked if she would consider returning to the ring she was hesitant to render a firm reply. Being 44, must make her decision a practical one. With her political views having been aired out her future as an actor may still be in jeopardy. Carano has a lot to think about. One thing is certain; the fact that she focused on losing 100 pounds of weight has to factor in on her being on track to making good decisions.

WNBA… BABY TALK

We wondered why Skyler Diggins thought playing for the Chicago Sky would be a good fit for her. We did our research and herd her say in an interview regarding the move that she wanted to take care of her two babies aged 2 and 6.

The reality is Chicago is only 94 miles from her place of birth, South Bend Indiana. Being nearer to family is an asset.

WNBA MYSTERY

We've noticed that the Phoenix Mercury has a player, Jovana Nogic, whose photo is missing from their WNBA roster photos. She is a mystery given the fact there is no indication who drafted her or how did the Mercury acquire her.

Our digging for answers revealed that the 28-year-old is from Belgrade, Serbia. She is this captain of the Serbian national team. The six foot guard attended Providence University in the US but has been playing in Europe since her graduation.

She caught our attention since she's averaging 16ppg. for the Mercury including a game high 27 points against the Chicago Sky in a 91-83 win on May 16th.

THIS DAY IN THE NBA

May 17, 1979 Jack Sikma of Seattle scored 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the SuperSonics to a 114-110 victory over Phoenix in Game 7 of their Western Conference Finals series, before a crowd of 37,552 at the Kingdome. The Sonics went on to win their only NBA Championship, defeating Washington in five games in the Finals.

May 17, 1988 John Stockton of Utah tied Magic Johnson's NBA Playoff assist record with 24 in a losing effort (111-109) against Los Angeles in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals.

May 17, 1993 New York's Pat Riley was named IBM NBA Coach of the Year, beating out Houston's Rudy Tomjanovich by a single vote in the closest balloting ever, becoming only the fifth NBA coach to win the award twice. Riley, who led the Knicks to a 60-win season for only the second time in the 47-year history of the franchise, also won the Coach of the Year award with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1990.

May 17, 1995 Jason Kidd of Dallas and Grant Hill of Detroit were named co-winners of the NBA Rookie of the Year Award, marking the first time since 1971--when Boston's Dave Cowens and Portland's Geoff Petrie were named co-winners--that two players shared the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy.
