JENNIFER HUDSON THE ACADEMY AWARDS AMERICAN IDOL

Tonight Jennifer Hudson a former American Idol loser walked away with an Oscar at the Academy Awards in Hollywood, California USA as the winner of Best Supporting Actress for her role in Dream Girls. Hudson's accomplishment proves that winners never quit and quitters never win.

Since being ejected from the American Idol program Hudson went on to her role in Dream Girls, have hit records and also won the Golden Globe Award as Best Supporting Actress for her singing and acting talents. Her role as Effie White in the Dream Girls film in was based upon Florence Ballard one of the Supremes.

Hudson a Chicago, Illinois USA native beat out hundreds of professional singers and actresses for the part including, ironically, Fantasia Barerro who had defeated Hudson in American Idol.

Since that time the 25-year-olds success is the perfect example of what it takes to make it in show business that being she not only has talent but she has the guts and determination to overcome rejection.

Hudson who claims to have a four-octave range auditioned for the third season of American Idol in Atlanta, Georgia. She was a member of the first group of semifinalists. She was not voted through to the final round, although she was brought back on the wildcard round and put through as a finalist by contest judge Randy Jackson.

Hudson struggled to gain popularity in the early stages of the live shows, receiving the second lowest number of votes in two of the first three shows. However, after a change in song choices, she soon became a favorite to win, receiving the highest number of votes on one occasion. It was that elimination that perhaps made the fatal error that the American Idol judges keep repeating; it's not only about talent it's about song selection.

The R&B soul singer sang a Barry Manilow song "Weekend in New England" on the April 20, 2004 show placing her in the bottom 2 that resulted in her being voted off the program. Obviously that song selection proved to be the wrong choice but Hudson wasn't through proving that she could sing.

Hudson recorded her own version of the soul classic "Neither One of Us (Wants to Be the First to Say Goodbye)", originally by Gladys Knight & the Pips, for American Idol Season 3: Greatest Soul Classics-the official American Idol album for the 3rd season.

Hudson's version of a song from Dream Girls "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" debuted at number 98 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the January 13, 2007 issue.

The "Dreamgirls" track has since become Hudson's first Top 10 hit, albeit not on the Hot 100, as the track registered a new peak at #7 on the Billboard Hot Adult R&B Airplay chart on February 24, 2007

In less than two years of her American Idol exit Hudson's beat goes on. Her performing skills were recognized by one of the most successful talent finders in the music business.

In November 2006, Hudson signed a record deal with Clive Davis's label, Arista Records. Davis has guided the careers of such legendary artists as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Dionne Warwick, now Hudson's label mates.

Hudson has expressed an interest in working with Houston for her debut album. Being in the same record label family helps.

She announced on the Oprah Winfry show that she wants to start work on her album in March. She now has another success story in her often rejected but now selected career buy winning an Academy Award.
