Mariah Carey replacing Jennifer Lopez is a blessing in disguise unless she starts doing a Lopez in rooting for a specific contestant and blurts out I WANT YOU TO WIN - Has Idol's judge of 11 seasons Randy Jackson past his sell by date? - Recommended TV Listings

MARIAH CAREY 2-B JUDGE is a GOOD CHOICE

In their first season together the judging team of Jennifer Lopez, Stephen Tyler and Randy Jackson started out with good chemistry. They all seemed to get along and have respect for each other resulting in a blend of talent that worked. As time passed Jackson began to assert himself into former judge Simon Cowell's lead role. Jackson started calling out the names of the next judge to critique i.e. what about you Jennifer or Steven.

By the second half of their second season together you could see the disgruntled look on Tyler's face particularly following one of Jackson's long critiques and self promotions. As it came to fruition a few weeks ago Tyler announced that he would not return as a judge in order to concentrate more on his band Aerosmith. The word is that he was forced out.

The following day Lopez also announced that she would not return. That was good news as she overstepped her duties as a judge by rooting for contestant Phillip Phillips early on in the competition when after critiquing him she blurted out, "I want you to win Phillip." He did and her cheerleading of Phillips obviously carried some weight and influenced voters as he won although he had one of the weakest voices in the competition.

That was one of the lowest lowlights in American Idol's history. There is no place on the Idol panel for a judge to be outwardly biased towards one contestant. The job of judging does not include being in love with contestants but to appraise their talent and performance. Her personal life of having an affair with someone almost young enough to be her son is not the image of a good role model for the shows predominantly young viewers.

When suggestions were made as to who would be good replacements for the two stars that rebuilt their sagging careers with their appearance on the show it brought up some very naive and negative opinions from the media. Most of the negative was that some of those names that surfaced were TOO OLD.

Names such as Aretha Franklin 70, popped up but some apparently some young dumb and full of cum media said she was too old. That sentiment was the attitude of many of those that wrote about the show throughout the season whose reports were more that of a cheerleader than an objective reporter. Their reports were more in the mold of being a band groupie than an objective incisive reporter. Their reporting was as faulty as Lopez's judging.

Obviously they fail to realize that age doesn't factor into being a qualified JUDGE as knowing what you're talking about and being able to back it up with their history is more relevant. Other mentioned were Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Mary J. Blige who were all criticized as being over 40 and TOO OLD.

Forgive me lord for I'm about to SIN... Simon Cowell was a true judge like him or not he was about judging talent. If Cowell was a judge last season Phillips would have never made it on the show. Cowell was about judging talent not who physically excites him. During his stint on the show we have strongly criticized him about his attitude and persona not his judging skills. It was the acrid manner which he talked to the contestants that was most disturbing.

Idol started coming apart at the seams when they went to a four judge system and it's been all downhill from there. That was followed by changing several judges that never developed a positive chemistry aura that resulted in good television viewing. Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi were included in the judging team mixes that failed.

For what ever the reason for the numerous Idol changes proved to be a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth. The problem is who is the top chef that is responsible for turning on the tap the made the contaminated water flow.

Apparently the powers that be made a good selection in Mariah Carey 42, one of the best voices of this era. She has been through the entertainment business grinder. Her experience on her tough rise to fame and success coming from a broken home and surviving by being a waitress will be valuable to contestants on how to deal with the show biz hurdles and what it takes to overcome adversity.

The only problem with her addition is she is said to be managed by now fellow judge Randy Jackson. That presents the ingredients of incest which in this case is not best and could result in Jackson being too comfortable which could contribute to his diarrhea of the mouth disease. With Carey at his side he will most likely embellish him praising his past accomplishments which clutters up the show and is a waste of valuable time. The answer is Jackson had been on the show 11 seasons since its inception and NEEDS TO GO.

For the third judging spot the groupie Idol press has suggested that there is a need for a young judge closed to the age of the majority of the viewers. The problem with that is who is young, mature and knowledgeable enough to fulfill that role. Maturity and knowledge is an ingredient that is badly needed to give the show substance.

There is a need for a major house cleaning. Producer Nigel Lythgoe has been in negations to return. He has the megalomaniac disease similar to fellow Brit Piers Morgan. His persona as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance is a turn off. His involvement in the disgraceful dismissal of contestant Jermaine Jones this past season indicates he has a sleazy mentality that is disrespectful and inconsiderate of others.

There is nothing wrong with a youth movement providing you can find qualified individuals with experience and successful credentials. The question is who can that be?

Carrie Underwood, 29, and Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert, both 30, Rihanna and 19-year-old Miley Cyrus have been mentioned. Underwood would be a great choice but as talented as Lambert is he may be over the top being theatrical. The balls on your court... who would you choose?
