AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS

Last month the spotlight was on Beyonce and this month the light also shines on her boyfriend Jay Z.

Beyonce and her boyfriend hip-hop rap singer Jay Z are scheduled to perform on the American Music Awards. The show is scheduled to be televised Wednesday on the Star World channel at 8am and repeats 7pm Cambodia - Thailand time..

Jay Z has been making the rounds doing numerous appearances to promote his new CD after coming out of retirement. The CD is available on demand from the Internet. Full story

The Z-Man made an appearance on the NFL's Monday Night Football telecast. On the telecast he mentioned his interest in sports by noting that he was in a partnership as being one of the owners of the New Jersey Nets basketball team in the NBA.

OHH… BRITNEY… A FEDERLINE SIGHTING

Britney Spears now ex Kevin Federline made a guest appearance on music Channel V show CD USA yesterday singing his Hip-Hop CD.

Ohhhh Myyyy… What is Channel V going to do with the Britney and Kevin reality (we love each other too much) show that they've been airing over, and over and over again this past year? May we bow our heads and pray…

IMAGE IS EVERYTHING

It has been said by many that image is everything. For a lengthy period of time Asia's music channel V had a logo of two furry hypodermic needles crossed in the shape of a V. It makes one wonder to whom they are trying to sell their programming to, an audience of druggies or what.

If that was considered humor the question is WHY?

Recently Channel V (Asia) has been cleaning up their rather shoddy image having changed the logo to several colorful and artful replacements.

TOM CRUISE TIES THE KNOT WITH KATIE HOLMES

The recent marriage of actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes is not recognized in the country that they were wed…. Italy.

Cruise is a Scientologist and had a Scientologist wedding. Italy does not recognize the religion.

Did you know?

Holmes got her first big exposure via being a cast member of the Dawson's Creek television series. It was televised on the Warner network in the USA during the late nineties.

SARAH GERONIMO's Big Exposure

Before an International television audience Geronimo sang the Philippine national anthem prior to the super featherweight championship fight between the Philippines Manny Pacquiao and Mexico's Erik Morales.

For those that don't know Pacquiao KO'd Morales in the third round. It was the third meeting between the two with Pacquiao winning the last two encounters.

Geronimo is one of the featured talents on the ASAP variety show that is televised internationally on the ABS-CBN network on the TFC (The Filipino Channel).

The show is televised at noon on Sunday's (Cambodia - Thailand time). It repeats Sunday evenings at 10pm. Check your local listings for the time in your area.

Geronimo also is featured as an actress in a TV soap that is titled Rising Star when translated in English.

Watch out for this young lady she truly is a rising star with a voice the quality of Celine Dion that is still developing as she gains more experience.

DENNIS RODMAN

When it comes to making a transition from sports to show business former NBA player Dennis Rodman made a major impact in the entertainment industry.

Rodman was a member of five NBA championship teams including three with Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls Prior to joining the Bulls Rodman earned a reputation as being outrageous.

While a member of the San Antonio Spurs he was dating Madonna and started dying his hair with rainbow colors. Word has it that Madonna wanted to have his baby.

After he and the material girl split up he married VJ actress Carmen Electra. In doing so HE WORE A WEDDING DRESS. They soon divorced.

His nicknames include "Dennis the Menace", "Rodzilla", "Rod the Bod", and "Worm", said to be given to him by his mother for wriggling around while playing pinball machines.

Last year on a reality TV show in England Rodman claimed that he has had sex with nearly 2,000 women.

In 1996 MTV made a reality talk show for him titled The Rodman World Tour, while he remained an NBA player.

Some of the films that you can rent, purchase or watch out for to be televised are his appearances in the action films Simon Sez (1999), Double Team with Jean Claude Van Damme (1997) as well as co-starring with Tom Beringer in another action film about skydiving titled Cutaway released in 2000. Rodman also did a story about his life "Bad As I Wanna Be: The Dennis Rodman Story." for ABC TV in the USA.

DID YOU KNOW TED TURNER?

Did you know that CNN founder Ted Turner was the owner of two professional sports teams? Turner owned the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA and the Atlanta Braves of the MLB (Major League Baseball) during the eighties.

At that time Turner owned WTBS one of the first stations that was available on satellite television.

In doing so owning the teams provided programming for the station and they were deemed America's teams due to their availability to be seen throughout the entire country.

Turner is also instrumental in helping make the NBA so popular when he made a deal with NBA commissioner David Stern to televise NBA games on the station making it a first.

Teng Lackana - FRESHIE GIRL SUCCESS

It seems that Freshie Girl Teng Lackana, is benefiting from being in last years Freshie Boy & Girl contest. The nineteen-year-old was a guest on the Game Cupid show on TV 3 last week. She is also on a print ad for a soft beverage drink.

Lackana was the 2nd runner-up in last years show. She also won the Miss Personality award.

This year's show will begin being televised in December at TV 3. The finals will be held at the end of January.

SINBAD ON MICHAEL RICHARDS N WORD

On the CNN 360 news show comedian Sinbad commented that fellow comedian Michael Richards use of the N word to hecklers while he was working at a comedy club in Hollywood California, USA was wrong.

Richards plays the part of Kramer on the Seinfeld series that is currently being televised in Southeast Asia Monday through Friday at 6:30pm Cambodia - Thailand time on the Star World channel.

Sinbad said he walked into the Laugh Factory comedy club about 10 minutes before Richards's racist remarks.

He also noted that when he sees Richards again he would talk to him about it. For those that don't know what the N word is… never mind it's a waste of someone's intelligence.

THE Final show of the APPRENTICE

The Apprentice is in the final stage. In a surprise move Donald Trump fired two of the last four contestants. He cited disloyalty as the reason.

He noted that the two women were the best of friends but when one had to be fired when they failed a task they turned on each other. Trump noted that he did not want a disloyal employee.

The remaining two contestants then chose three of their former competitors to form a team to execute a task.

One of the finalists said when choosing his team, "When people don't get along with each other the process can break down."

The other finalist noted while selecting his team, "I could choose five people and all would want me to fail." The lesson's learned from watching the show is really about HUMAN BEHAVIOR and DECISION MAKING.

The Apprentice airs on Malaysian TV 3 channel at 10pm Sunday night Cambodia - Thailand time. Check your local listings.

EYE CANDY CHANGES AT ESPN

ESPN's Singapore based operations are going through some changes with producers being switched around to different programs and new hires that include some female eye candy of former music Channel V, VJ's. What that has to do with sports goes into the go figure file.

Thai singer Ta Ta Young is scheduled to appear on Football Crazy this Thursday November 23. What does Young know about sports (if anything) can be availed by tuning in to the show.

ESPN's management decisions results in poor programming that resembles a quality a cut above public access TV in the USA.

One of the most blaring problems is apparently ESPN believes that loud blaring music from Metalica type bands and crowd noise are more important than the comments of the sports analysts that cover sporting events. The music and crowd noise is louder than the voice of the commentators.

It makes one wonder if ESPN is a sports channel or attempting to be a music channel. The Rasmussen family, the founders of ESPN, blood would curdle if they knew the poor shape that ESPN Singapore was in.

MORE ESPN (lack of) AUDIO CONTROL

The plight of ESPN's audio problems could be in the hands of the person in charge of the audio feed. It reminds me of the BARRY GORDY story.

Gordy is the founder of Motown records that had mega hits with Diana Ross and the Supremes, Temptations, Stevie Wonder and numerous other recoding artists.

In part Gordy's success was the way he had his records mixed (blend of sound). He realized that most people listened to music while in their cars that were equipped with small speakers.

Record producers at that time (60's & 70's) would mix the sound while listening to the LARGE speakers in the recording studio control room or through headphones.

Gordy also reasoned that most people did not have large speakers in their home.

With that in mind Gordy mixed his recorded music in the recording studio while listening to it through small speakers that were equivalent to those in ones car.

The result being that he came up with the magic blend of sound that enabled the masses to value his music based not only on the quality of the song and the music artist but THE SOUND.

ESPN should be more aware of this problem. People listen to sports to hear what is going on in a game and not to hear loud Rock n Roll music or CROWD NOISE.

We tested out our opinion when a recent Champions League football game that was being televised at the same time on Malaysia's TV 3.

On ESPN the crowd noise and music were louder that that of the commentator. On TV 3 you could clearly hear and understand what the commentatator was saying.

Changing talent at ESPN Singapore is one thing… understanding production is another and ESPN Singapore needs to work on that.

WORLD'S APART

WORLD'S APART is a good TV show to watch on the AXN channel. It sends an American family to a foreign land to live with indigenous people for 10 days. The family has to adapt to their culture and ways.

This is the perfect show that demonstrates how people can get along.
