REALITY SHOW WORLD

When it comes to reality shows the reality is that some are good and others are bad. This past month three reality shows came to a close Top Model, Pirate Master and CTN's Pizza House and one began, ABS-CBN's Celebrity Big Brother.

In the Asian world there are two major players in reality television, one is the Philippines ABS-CBN television network that seem to have a plan whereas they have developed in house stars who are products of their reality television series. The other is the CTN (Cambodian Television Network) that have produced five reality shows over the past two years and the results remain unclear as the network has not revealed who benefited from being on their programs.

CTN doesn't seem to have a plan. At this point we are of the opinion that if ideas were food CTN would starve to death. Both networks are trying to develop programming for their expanding International network ventures. ABS-CBN is making good on its promise to provide more and improved programming for its viewers in an effort to solidify their International growth.

Tonight ABS-CBN premiered the second edition of their highly successful Celebrity Big Brother show with super hosts Tony Gonzaga, Mariel Rodriguez and Bianca Gonzalez. Gonzalez was a contestant on the first edition last year that was won by Kiana Reeves. Gonzaga has been the primary host of all of the ABS-CBN reality shows. She left the first Big Brother show midway through the series last year and was replaced by Rodriguez. The reasons for Gonzaga's departure are not clear but after the series ended she was involved in a well publicized relationship with Philippine /American contestant Sam Milby. If its Oh My's you're looking for then you will find it at ABS-CBN, as generating fan interest in their talent is one of their strengths.

The relationship is over but all are now in one big happy ABS-CBN family as they continually promote on the network with televised testimonials from its talent. As the church lady said, "Isn't that lovely." The three co-hosts also host 'Entertainment Live' a weekly entertainment gossip show that airs Sunday Morning's on the network. The positive results continue to build in the networks favor as they are transparent in what they do and cross promote their efforts on a large scale.

As they say in the television and film business CASTING IS EVERYTHING and on the surface this edition of Celebrity Big Brother appears to be no exception.

Tonight Gonzaga, Rodriguez and Gonzalez introduced to the television audience to the new contestants for the show that range in age from 17 - 40.

Tall and strikingly beautiful 17-year-old Megan Young jumps out among the group as one of the most outstanding contestants. She was introduced as the Princess of Charm. Young is polite, intelligent and at this point not overbearing. If she survives the cutthroat antics and head games that go along with reality shows she should go far. If she doesn't win she has the looks of an entertainment star. If she has talent given their track record ABS-CBN will develop her into a major Philippine star as they have with other talent they have created.

Another contestant is an admitted recovering alcoholic who was introduced as Wild Child. Dealing with others in a coexistent environment could be a key element in the shows chemistry and a continual topic of conversation.

A 40-year-old lady contestant admits that she was pregnant at the age of 16 by a 21-year-old individual who was introduced a The Mom In Distress. Her involvement on the show reeks of the last Big Bro show when in the middle of the series two older women were injected into the program when the housemate's appeared to be getting in heat and were stretching to their harmones to their limitations. Big Bro added the mature ladies to tone things down and the distraction worked. This time around a more mature but very young looking person is on the scene from the start.

There is also a comedian on the show that will add humor and two attractive ladies from the 'Deal or No Deal,' TV show. A male model/actor contestant Victor who has worked with Gonzaga in the past is also in the cast was introduce as The Lonely Dream Boy.

Riza a 21-year-old lady who was in the military claims to be a virgin is also on the show. She was introduced as The Desirable Diva. She said she was not permitted to date until she was 18 and she then decided not to get involved with anyone. The question is will the housemates change her attitude? Will there be another Bruce and Wendy relationship in store for her?

Another interesting cast member is Will a 25-year-old print model who is a half German ¼ black and ¼ Filipino and is by far the best looking male on the show. His father has been an an alcoholic for 15 years. Will's presence will add some spice to the program.

Another male claims to be the top martial arts fighter in his weight class in the Philippines. Between he and the military lady there should be some discipline in the house.

The show airs daily at 9:45 PM Thailand/Cambodia time and 10:45 PM Hong Kong/Singapore time.

As much as we love the network for how they develop talent they are the worst at adhering to a time schedule. Previous Big Brother shows have started as early s 8:15 PM and as late as 11:45 PM. As Edward R Morrow said…. Good Night and Good Luck.

ABS-CBN TALENT

ABS-CBN continues to cross promote their talent as evidenced on a feature by Boy Abunda co-host of The Boy & Kris Show and entertainment gossip program The BUZZ on the network of Iya Villanía who is frequently a cast member of the ASAP variety show.

Villanía is a singer, dancer and actress, print model and VJ who also hosts the U Can Dance TV show on the network. In the past she also co-hosted Wowowee from February 2005 to June 2006. She is currently a VJ for the Philippine music video channel Myx.

With a full plate of activities the Australian born 21-year-old talent manages to attend college three days a week studying AB Psychology at De La Salle University-Manila. As you can see her looks defy the opinion of dumb and beautiful as she has the smarts to learn something that is not show business that can be helpful in her career in dealing with others.

ABS-CBN's SOLID GOLD TALENT

Sarah Geronimo and former Teen Big Brother winner Kim Chui received gold record awards on this weeks ASAP show that had a theme of 24K Gold Awards.

Other ASAP talent also received awards. This is a must watch show that features the networks best talent with a different theme each week. The show airs Sunday at noon and an abbreviated show is repeated on Tuesday at 11:15 AM Thai/Cambodia time.
