DEFLECTION = MISCONCEPTION

When the average Joe watches television news or documentaries it is usually taken as gospel. The problem is most viewers have a limited perspective about the subjects they're being force fed. Some of the reasons why are greed, money, politics and CONFLICT OF INTEREST. With CNN's documentary Every Day in Cambodia regarding the child sex trade we found those elements to be suspect.

The documentary featuring actress Mira Sorvino went overboard promoting an NGO that is doing something about the problem but is not the solution. Our coverage on the program took three of out NR TOP 10 positions. If anyone watching the show really knew the truth they would dismiss the program as nonsense. We have 25 years of experience dealing with this problem and covering it with the results being that there is a major business in covering the subject for the sake of higher ratings yet nothing of substance is being done about it.

As journalist/composer John Perry Barlow said a decade ago when he spoke at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Cambodia (FCCC) in Phnom Penh Cambodia the reason nothing is done about it is if these NGO's did their job THERE WOULD BE NO JOB. As the saying goes he spoke with a silver spoon in his as nothing could be closer to the truth. We have pointed out this problem in recent years after hearing and seeing too many NGO's raining money to fight or eliminate the child sex trade but nothing to little is done.

What we have seen over the years is an overabundance influx of foreigners having jobs with NGO's that do nothing more than talk about the problem. They raise millions of dollars a year to more or less talk about it or as they claim bring it to the public's attention. We do it for free.

What CNN did was interview various Cambodian government officials and pointed out that they knew that police and government officials were involved in the child sex trade. The replies were basically stonewalling and Sorvino failed to follow up on the root cause of the child sex trade subject.

Sorvino even embarrassed herself by asking the NGO individual she was involved with while visiting an area cluttered with brothels that focus on the child sex trade and asked him if the traffickers near them understood English. He replied no. She then went on to stage a visual with her yelling to them "It's not OK to sell children, it's not OK."

The other disturbing neglect on CNN's part was they interviewed a child sex worker who was sent to a hotel for a Chinese client. As they spoke they showed the NAGA Hotel Casino in Phnom Penh. The child was there for several days. The problem is why didn't CNN and Sorvino interview the management of the hotel casino and question why they would permit a child prostitute to be on their premises. It is common knowledge that there has been a program in Cambodia for hotel and guest house owners to report to the police when they see an older man with a child (sex worker).

Previous documentaries regarding the came subject have been repeatedly re-telecast yet after a month we have yet to see Every Day in Cambodia be rebroadcast. Is this a case where they embarrassed themselves so badly that they have chosen to sweep it under the rug? The original telecast also was delayed from its publicized original timeslot in Southeast Asia following weeks of advance promotion of the show.

This month we have deviated from our policy of not rating our NR TOP 10 columns but this month we are making an exception due to the subject matter is relative to what CNN failed to do.

In that piece we noted someone who came to Cambodia to do something about the problem that addresses the child sex trade…. POVERTY and a lack of EDUCATION. Bill Herod is responsible for bringing the Internet to Cambodia enabling it to connect with the world in their rebuilding process in overcoming the Khmer Rouge destruction of the country. Herod stands alone as being the most influential in the development of Cambodia yet his efforts go unnoticed and unappreciated.

We visited Herod during the time Every Day in Cambodia was telecast. He is partially retired and living in Mondul Kiri the least populated province in Cambodia. Although he is living on a pension he continues to do something about aborting the child sex problem through education. The area is surrounded with hill tribes. Since the children's homes are too far from the school to return home every evening Herod helps them by providing food, lodging and pays for their school expenses. One of the students dropped y to say hello and he ambition is to be a nurse.

Herod also pays room, board and tuition for eight youths that attend universities in Phnom Penh. Six of the eight were tour guides in Mondul Kiri with Herod's assistance. We will do a full story on Herod at a later date but this is an example of people doing something about the problem and not just talking about it for publicity and higher ratings. For sure you've heard about CNN but it's doubtful that you've heard about Herod.

We also intend to do an extensive story about those that do make a difference in doing something about the child sex trade and those NGO parasites that are in Cambodia simply to exploit the problem and raise donor money to support their colonialist lifestyle and huge salaries that can affords them expensive housing and $30,000 a year tuition for their children's education in International schools in Cambodia. Some of these NGO maggots have three of four children. Do the math and common sense and do the logic of where the donor money is going and why the child sex trade continues to thrive.

Dennis Rodman has been in the news and abused by the Western main stream media. His story the Beat Down of Dennis Rodman ranks 2nd on this months ratings chart. Rodman went to North Korea to play basketball yet after being told by the US government that he doesn't represent them he has been held accountable for not trying to have American Kenneth Bae released. That is the US governments job not his but the stories that CNN report lay the responsibility on him. This indicates more garbage reporting on CNN's behalf.

The 3rd spot was the death of the Israeli murdering assassin Ariel Sharon. CNN gave him more coverage at this funeral than any other network. They portrayed this evil individual as some sort of hero thus it indicates how CNN is in the pocket of Israel and like the US government considers Israel their friend and defends their murdering, invading and occupation ways. PROTECT THAT OIL and the SUEZ CANAL!!!

Overall television reviews took four of the TOP 10 spots while sports took three. A repeat of the question we raised in June who is better Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant returned to the charts taking the 7th spot. We followed up on that with our top 10 NBA players of ALL TIME which took the 8th spot.

SECTIONS MOST VISITED

A major shake up occurred in the sections most visited as business too the top spot followed by FIFA which is understandable with the World Cup approaching. Sports Notes returns after a month off. The remainder of the most searched subjects has made some shifts in popularity.

ARCHIVES

Interest in our archives has taken on a strange shape with stories that we did 20 years ago taking center stage. With that in mind and the interest in the NBA at this time of the year we decided to serve up tow of our most interesting subjects that we pioneered regarding International players in the NBA. Last month we listed our 2nd report on the subject, this month we include our first.

When we pursued this subject some of those I interviewed looked at me in a very strange way. Yes I consider myself a profit as International players in the league are approaching the 100 mark and should reach that number within three years.

Hakeem Olajuwon was the first I approached on the subject A QUARTER OF A CENTURY AGO and I found him to be one of the most intelligent NBA players I have ever interviewed. Karl Malone and the Round Mound of Rebound Charles Barkley contributed to the piece. Barkley informed me that he doesn't like to be referred to with that moniker thus we'll just refer to him as ROUND.

The 2nd story on that subject in last months NR TOP 10 was a focus on Toni Kukoc. The twist to this that remains an untold story is Kukoc was signed to the Chicago Bulls and received a lager contact than Michael Jordan. Jordan retired and moved on the play minor league baseball. During his absence Kukoc and Scottie Pippen were that teams stars but failed to win an NBA title until Jordan returned for a full season.

Our 3rd French language story is about Ann Meyers the first female to be signed by the NBA. She failed to make the regular season team but Meyers remains and always will be a pioneer in the NBA.

Now here's the caveat… these stories are published in the French language thus you bone up on your French language skills or you won't know the content of the stories.

TOP 5 PRESS RELEASES

DENNIS RODMAN… THE PEACEABLE MAN - Here we go again! It's BEAT DOWN Dennis Rodman time again. Rodman can't win as he tries to do something US government officials can't….. COMMUNICATE. Rodman's escapades in visiting North Korea have brought him nothing but anguish. His efforts may be unappreciated but he has proved that he has more balls (pun intended) than the American government. As he speaks it is clear that Rodman is not a wordsmith but his actions show how chicken $#!t the American government officials and the Western media are.
