SECOND HALF SURGE TAKES THE ROMP OUT OF COLTS - Saints quarterback Drew Brees wins MVP award -

Monday February 8, 2010

SAY IT TAINT SO SAINTS LOSERS NO MO - FANS PUT THE BAGS AWAY

For 43 years the New Orleans Saints have been the subject of ridicule and disrespect largely due to their inept teams. This 2010 edition of the Saint's has put all of that behind them as they came from behind a 10-1 deficit with a second half surge by outscoring the favored Indianapolis Colts 25-7 on their way to a 31-17 Super Bowl XLIV title. The irony of their success is that they went on to win the title after registering a 13-0 start and closing out their regular season with here straight losses finishing with a regular season 13-3 record.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees walked away with the Super Bowl MVP trophy as he was flawless in his performance completing 32 of 39 passes for 288 yards with no interceptions and throwing two touchdown passes.

The Colts had a chance to tie the score at 24 with 3:24 remaining on the clock in a third and five situation. Manning made his major error of the day by throwing an interception to Saints defensive back Tracy Porter who returned it for a Super Bowl record 74 yard TDS interception for a 31-17 lead and that was all she wrote for the Clots.

After the game Saints coach Sean Payton said that he wished he could cut the trophy up into pieces and give it to all of the Saints fans. The irony being it was Manning's father Archie who was the Saints biggest star when they were losers and named the Aints while their fans wore paper bags over their heads in shame of their teams' poor performances. Since they have bagged the Super bowl title they can put those bags away and hold their heads up high and walk proud.

The theme to this game was how New Orleans has suffered so much since Hurricane Katrina blasted the city almost into oblivion forcing people to leave their homes, move to other cities and left the metropolis devastated by destruction. The Saints had no place to play the following season. The Superdome was in poor condition and required repair. The team was without a home and played their entire season on the road in college stadiums outside of New Orleans and other cities.

The Saints' scheduled 2005 home opener against the New York Giants was moved to Giants Stadium. The remainder of their 2005 home games were split between the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, and LSU's Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The Saints home field the Superdome was the site of being a morgue and refuge for those whose homes were flooded or washed away. That crowded stadium environment resulted in crime by thugs who took advantage of the jam-packed situation of thousands of desperate people being herded into a facility ironically for protection. The thugs raped and robbed many of their victims.

The result of this win can help ease that pain and give a city that has experience such devastation and hardship and provide some glory and relief of their pain and suffering.

NOTE:

In 2007 Brees and former San Diego Cgargers teammate LaDainian Tomlinson were co-recipients of the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for player achievements in community service during a particular season.. During his eight year NFL career Brees has started 115 0f the 116 that he was eligible for and six of six playoff games. His NFL records include

* Most completions for a season - 440 (2007 Season)

* Highest Completion percentage for a season - 70.62 (2009 Season)

* Most completions for a Super Bowl game (tied) - 32 (Super Bowl XLIV)
